good video, knowledge, and break down. Learning something difficult made simpler.

I have a 5.4 3v and the passenger guide broke. I’m pretty sure it jumped time. Already cleaned all the plastic pieces up by dropping pan. Did a leak test and it’s all good. How do I get the motor back in time? Can I put R passenger side and balance at TDC and remove chain then remove chain from passenger side to get drivers side #5 rotated around to bottom of stroke?

thanks Im about to this next week I did the unfortunate choice of putting dorman camphasers after the truck hit 170,000 miles, at 195 one of them flaked out, it still runs but now sounds just as bad as the motorcraft. Will the passenger phaser line up as well?

So anytime that notch is lined up with the groove on the balancer. That ALWAYS means it’s at tdc, right? I’m putting ford cams in right now.

If I replace the timing chain do I need to install the harmonic balancer at top dead center?

  • @MetalMulisha23

Question, I watched one video that had turning the balancer the opposite direction (counter clockwise). Could you loose timing by doing so or does it matter what direction you turn it

Your videos are really helpful! Are you supposed to hold the camshaft in place to loosen the bolt in the phaser?

On a 2008 4.6 f150 xlt, to be at tdc would it be the same process as the 5.4

If i put rebuilt heads on a 07 5.4 8cylinder 3valve And i put timming chain and if i turn the crank will make the valves hit with the pistons

Hi, can you help on my 2009 f150 5.4L xlt. Just changed the both banks cam phaser but got timing lost. How to make right timing on it?

Help please. I have my crankshaft at the 12 o'clock position. And i need to remove. 2 Camshaft followers from cylinder 1, 1 from cylinder 4, 1 from cylinder 5 and 2 from cylinder 8. Before i can remove my chain, glides, phazers and oil pump. But to make sure i am at top the Camshaft lobes in cylinder 1 should be at 11 o'clock and lobes in cylinder 5 should be at 3 o'clock. But my lobes are not in this position at all no matter how many times i move the crankshaft 360 degrees or 180 degrees. I think my chain jumped due to a broken glide on passenger side. Truck would rotate fine but would not start. It would just back fire from front of engine. How do I reset camshaft lobes to correct possition when crankshaft is at top position ( 12 o'clock )?

I'm doing a timing chain job on my 2005 Ford F150 5.4 3 valve. I've already removed the harmonic balancer. Can I just put it back on to fine my TDC?
    Thanks in advance!

bull. Harmonic balancer has a keyway. Cant put it in 180 off. Only one position available at360 degrees. Unless there is something I am missing?

Yes there is something you are missing. Go back and relearn how timing can be 180 degrees off.

@@MattShaughnessy6 no. Cannot be. Crank/cam shaft sensors with pickup plate has the magnetic spacing to show the computer through the sensor where to start the spark. No other part shows the computer where to start the spark. There are 8 coils all governed by when the computer starts. If I am wrong on the systems setup, then tell me how the computer knows when to set the timing mark at 180 for the pattern to start. No cap and rotor or single coil.... ALL electronic except for the crank shaft and cam shaft sensors.....

i replaced my timing set and m360 meiling pump and after i put everything back together the chain has to much slack, however with everything hooked up if i spin the motor around the slack on 1 side tightens and then goes to passenger side and if i spin again it will go back to drivers side runs great on first cold start up after it warms up u can hear the chain hit every 1 sec do u have any idea what this could be
