There should be a hardcore multi-player mechanic that allows players to 'revive' other players if they are in some mode called 'near-death' that occurs in specific circumstances. Near death mode makes the player extremely fragile before real death and they cannot move until another player saves them Edit: Gosh, I wasn't expecting this much responses, so I will add a detailed description: In hardcore multi-player, if mob/world damage takes all player health - but total damage doesn't exceed -3 hearts, then the fallen player will enter a new game mode called NEAR DEATH. However, once you enter near death mode you have a 10 minute timer that decreases faster as you crawl slowly. When the time expires, the player will die permanently. Hostile mobs cannot hurt you in this hypothetical game mode because they believe you are already dead, or undead. Other players, however, can interact with a fallen player by accessing their inventory, pick them and carry them around, or just finish them.
