My Dad, Lloyd Allen, was the best dozer operator in the Northern MO area. One of the dozers he ran was a D8 Cable dozer exactly like this for my Uncle Gerald. I have sat many hours on the toolbox riding along just like this video. I also pushed down my first mile high cottonwood tree with it. Great memories. Miss my Dad!
Looks like Matt was able to take the slack out of that right track & a new stack to boot! Chris adapts quickly to any machine he operates, what a treat to see the old iron convention! 👍👍
That’s what real operators do. 😉 Can’t beat old iron, they just don’t die. One things for sure you won’t see anything from today in 20 years let alone 50+ years
Sam's dozer looks like it just rolled off the assembly line and Matt's looks like it just did a back flip off the trailer at 90 mph but in true diesel creek fashion she runs absolutely beautiful!!!
It makes me happy that people are preserving and running this old iron. We’re spoiled with the equipment we have now. It’s good to be reminded once and a while of the past. And it’s challenges.
I don’t want to speak out of term or belittle the modern day operators but the old guys must have very d🎉fixated to work as hard and as long as they did with the old plant of yesterday year hats off to them all👍
@@howardfallfall2710 You gotta tip your hat as none of they can hear anything anymore even if they are alive. Dad died long ago but was deaf at fifty. Those big ole motors working ten to fourteen hours a day really beat on the ear drums. And long days were common to make up for the rain outs.
Whole 'nother critter but you guys might like Kory Andersen's Case 150 road locomotive, the biggest steam engine built back in 1905. He's pulled a 50, yes 50 bottom plow with it! 8,000 lb ft. of torque! He poured, machined and built every part for it. Absolutely fantastic!
Ok Chris you have left us hanging for 2 days concerning the new excavator, that is just wrong!! lol Looks like you enjoyed your time at the Old Iron show.
I filled many a fuel tank on a d8 cable Dozer, 150 gallons w/a hand crank. Had a cable pan to go with it. Rerouting the cables from blade to pan was a job. Company also had a large motor grader that was mechanical. Remember w/a smile watching the operator as he was grading roads. Doing a dance between the foot pedals and hand controls while grading. Helping the concrete crew repair the man hole covers that both machines eventually cut off.
Guys i was watching the cable dozer and i looked away for a minute and looked at the dozer again and noticed a different operating skill and i said that has to be Chris. Looked at operator and it was Chris. You just do things different and its better. Matt you did a great job getting her ready for the show. She sounds great and seems to be working great. Love that D8. Hello Chris .
That D8 almost ended up in a creek but was saved by a tree when the cable snapped as Matt was trying to save it on a slope after it quit running on him. Glad he was able to get the kinks out and get it back to running again. Sounds like it runs great. Anyway, I predict a D8 in Chris's future, even if it's just one to keep around the farm to putt around on, lol.
Wonderful old iron. I love how its far from 100% but still incredibly capable. I cultivate with a 1942 Farmall A, only used about 60 hours a year, but its always ready to go. When The big 6 yoa John Deeres I drive are 77 they won't be around, much less running well... This is one of Matts better finds....
Great video and it's good to see you boys playing in the dirt together and doing what you like together with the D8, thank you for sharing, well done Matt on the D8, Mark from Australia! 🙂👍
YOU DID AWESOME! makes u appreciate modern day hydraulics .. That dozer was no joke, and all that work was good for it after setting all those years! Nice polished blade and cutting edge now!
Chris is the epitome of a natural-born operating engineer! He appears to love the challenge of trying out anything, the bigger, the more challenging the better! 👏🏽 👍🏼☺
I am always amazed at the size of the tracks on a D8 compared to the D6, even the 977K. Tha''ts a lot of bulldozer, I love the old cable lifts, effective, powerful and simple.
Big Boys enjoying an afternoon in the sand box! Good day for Chris to not loose the blade on the cable dozer. Like the bucket on the dragline! Great video Chris young men enjoying Your childhood dreams.
Waw that's a great machine you done a great job on it i already know your going to paint it is a beautiful jewel 💎💎 I'm Ozzie in Waco Texas and i love you're videos😅😅
Not a computer in sight, no Eco krap, just a big powerful machine that anyone with a decent pair of hands can maintain. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 🇮🇪☘️😂
Gotta love it! Chris Occupation: Heavy Equipment Operator, Entertainment: Operating someone else's Heavy Equipment, Hobbies: Operating my own Drag Line and assortment of Heavy Equipment! :)
My grandpa was a cat skinner in southern oregon for over 50 years.. he told us boys about a time when is was in going down a steep hill that he lost his brakes dropped the blade but was going so fast that when the blade hit a big hole he leap frogged over the blade dragging it behind him
That old iron was designed to move mountains, hell of a great job chris. Hopefully Diesel creek can come out have a hand with the drag line at your place. Great video sir
Always great to see Matt at this show, and see Chris up there as well! Matt's D8 cable dozer is sweet. She can really move some dirt!! Chris is gonna be hurting tomorrow since right now he is looking a bit uncomfortable sitting on whatever he is sitting on. OH my poor Back!! Finally Chris got his turn. The other guy with what looks like a newer model of a D8??
I got the chance to operate a allis Hd-11 with the cable blade that thing was a beast it felt like it would pull a mountain in front of it lol thanks for sharing
Haven't been watching Matt's videos for a while, just haven't had the time to watch stuff that long.Nice to see he's got that old 8 going well, but come on man, flip that cutting edge!
Those Old Dozers are pretty cool !! That cable dozer you was running , those just look like they got that Old Bull-Dog Power !! Just strong old dozers...lolol... Cool to see you running the older stuff Chris !! Nice skills to have in ya back pocket, incase you ever come across something , and are asked if ya can run it?? You can be like, well let's see here !! lolololol... I've seen ya at this place a few times over the years , I believe...lolol... But, Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Evening Man, And, On too the Next !!
I was at the show on Friday and was talking to Matt. He said that you were going to be there Saturday. Hopefully you got some drag line tips. There was alot of old guys around there on Friday. I’m sure full of knowledge . It’s a really good show to attend glad to see you could make it.
Aways makes for awesome viewing at these shows bro, great to see Matt gave you some seat time in the D8. Now the question is will we see one at the LD18 ranch. Safe travels. Ken
Well...There might a Cutting blade switch in the future. Just a guess tho. That HUNK OF JUNK...will prolly out survive many newer machines. It also seems Matt has addressed the right(?)Track slackness. That must have been a job and a half in itself. That must be a future video :) She is a lot Crusty yet, she is a diamond in the rough. Thanks for showing her Chris!
Big kids playing in dirt. I’ll bet they did the exact same thing with Tonka Toys in the sand box when they were four years old. I’ll admit I did! Good stuff. Thank you!
The days of old live again. Diesel Creek nearly lost this one and great that is saved and back in working order. It is a beauty - fun day with friends.
The Yearly Time how the great and little Boy's go in the Wonder playland, to see the big old Building Machines by the Work. Some have the Fortune this Machine to Drive. Diesel Creek to bring all Years a Other Old Super Machine to see! A Cat D8 Cable Dozer this Year. Wonderful Days for Yong and Old People., 😅😃

RIGHT!? IM DYING TO KNOW WHICH ONE HE GOT!!
It’s killing me not knowing…lol
I thought there was likely more to your trip than trying out a couple of bigger machines, especially as you were op in Matt's neck of the woods. 😁
That D8 is truly magnificent. I hope Matt gets to do more work on it.
That D8 motor/engine is running nice and clean on the emissions, better than some newer models . Thanks for the video Chris 🍺🍺🍺🍺
That old D8 remembers how to push dirt just fine. It can even push good and straight using one side of the blade.
I enjoy watching your videos. As someone who sees the parts for these machines every day. I can see how all the pieces go together.

Used to fill a D8H with a hand pump twice a day when working 12 hour days pushing and ripping rock
This a 14a with a converted 36a,46a dash?
This is a Win-Win! Two of my favorite channels working together! Nice!
Chris is happy anytime he doesn't have to dig the tracks out.
Can ya blame him? 🤣🤣
You were having so much fun. Enjoy watching you work machinery.
I love that D8 and the sound of that Turbo! Sweet music to my ears.

No government "juice" around. One of the reason's to love old iron.

Awesome job. That D8 seemed to hold up amazing after Matt’s initial hiccup. You need one
In my childhood in the 1970's and 1980's a company owned an ex US Army D7 cable dozer and I was able to photograph it those days.
Love to see old exc, trackhoe , dozer al the machine works .
Pretty cool to see myself filming from your point of view towards the end. Really enjoyed watching you and Matt run the D8 saturday

Diesel Creek got that thing running just in time. He almost had it end up in the bottom of the creek behind his shop.
Swish he would fix that air cleaner properly though before that engine gets dusted only working with the safety element very risky
