The legendary Lou Stillman of Stillman's gym said the hardest punch he ever saw was when Tony Galento was training for his match with Louis. Galento has been asking Dempsey to train him which Dempsey apparently had no interest in doing. Tired of being bothered, Dempsey got in the ring with Galento to shut him up and show him what he would do. Stillman said Dempsey knocked out Galento with the hardest punch he ever witnessed. That was years after Dempsey retired.
Dempsey was ferocious. He had tremendous power in both hands, he also had aggressive head movement. Joe Louis was great but the only thing about Louis is he had a suspect chin. That’s not gonna help him against someone like Dempsey.
I agree. Lewis was a fundamental stand up fighter with one style. Dempsey was a mauler that fought from the heart. In boxing it's the with stamina and determination to win that usually wins. Sure Lewis might have got a lucky punch in, but I don't think he would have got the chance with Dempsey's head movement. Tyson admits that he copied a lot of Dempsey's style.
Jack Dempsey was the greatest and the best boxer in the history of boxing.Jack Dempsey was also very generous to the poor people living on the street.Dempsey often brought them inside his New York restaurant for free meals.Jack Dempsey was a great man.
Close fight. Hard to say. Louis is well rounded and powerful, but Dempsey is a god damn crouching tiger, fast as lightning and with the inner savagery and killer instinct tht was unmatched. I think either could win depending on the day and the mood. I know they could both kick my ass! Lol
Dempsey would have won against Lewis. The reason is Dempsey had quicker hands and would have beat Lewis to the punch. Dempsey had a longer reach/jab that would have beat Lewis to the punch, and Dempsey just kept battering his opponents to the floor. Lewis was ok, but he would throw a couple punches, and if they did land, he could knock them out. But I don't think Lewis would have been able to land on Dempsey's strong chin. It would end up like Lewis against Rocky Marciano. Rocky just kept hammering Lewis, not giving him a change to get set and throw his left hook. Just my take on the two. Do you agree?
joe louis was a boxer-puncher. dempsey was a savage puncher. takes a while for fighters to mature. schemling knocked out louis. a young dempsey vs. a young louis in dempsey's day--dempsey could have hurt louis. but dempsey in joe louis day-I think dempsey would get stopped. both guys were tuff. you never know? we love dempsey because of how he destroyed jess willard. that made dempsey the first " ring killer". both gentleman for sure.
If the fight was in Jack's era: Jack was a faster starter. He'd knock Joe down quickly. There's no neutral corner rule; Jack'd be hovering over Joe to do it again & again. If the fight was in Joe's era, Joe'd get the chance to regroup, & go into sniper-mode. Jack in Jack's day. /Joe in Joe's day.
Dempsey did not have the skill to take on Joe Louis. Joe Louis destroyed a similarly aggressive, tougher, and more skilled Max Baer after weathering an early barrage of punches.
Louis is just too accurate and powerful at the same time, too well balanced, for any boxer in history to beat him, if not accidentally. After the loss with Schmeling, he became unbeatable. KO, TKO, points, whatever
Louis is so highly rated because of the length of his reign. But he was the heavyweight champion during the war and in those years just fought exhibition bouts. After the war he was a spent force.
I think Dempsey would have been willing to dig deeper and lay more on the line. For this reason I think he'd win. Louis was a great fighter no doubt but Dempsey was pure savage in the ring.

I know the common opponent was Jack Sharkey but really Dempsey shouldn't have won that bout. In round 7 knowing he was lost, Dempsey just unloaded on Sharkey hitting him below the belt repeatedly. Sharkey turned his head to complain to ref, which is when Dempsey knocked Sharkey down. Sharkey immediately put his hands around his balls, and couldn't get back up. One of the most famous matches in boxing history. It's your own fault if you take your eyes off your opponent. So yeah, Dempsey deserved to win that match but Sharkey really was a better fighter than Dempsey at that stage in his career. Tunney was also a better fighter than Dempsey. Dempsey of course had the adoration of the crowd for much the same reason that Tyson was always very popular he was a slugger who would take 10 punches to give 10 punches. Dempsey and Tunney were pretty close in age, so it's hard to say that Dempsey was over the hill when he fought Tunney. Joe Louis of course is one of the all time greats and Dempsey is not even in his league. Joe's punches didn't travel far, 6 inches to 10 inches is all he need to knock you out. Dempsey's punches by contrast were pretty wild not the tight short punches you need to be an all time great. When Joe fought vs Sharkey he pretty much beat him from post to post, in the second round he saw something, started jabbing and coming over the job with a hard right to the temple and finished the fight. Joe Louis was a technical master of the craft, finding weaknesses in his opponents and then going for the kill when he had it figured out. As for the loss to Schmeling, well my opinion is anyone can get knocked out. It's a rough loss for Louis and does diminish his record but it doesn't dimished what a great fighter he was. If all you want is a perfect record there's always Rocky Mariano who really isn't much of a boxer, but had great heart and the fortune to be boxing when the competition for the title wasn't that strong. Great comparison with the footage there, gives you a chance to see their different styles. Jack Dempsey, all time fan favorite, Joe Louis and all time great.
Most boxing historians rate Joe Louis number one or number two on their list of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Eddie Futch, who devised the strategy that defeated Ali for both Joe Frazier and Ken Norton, considers Joe Louis to be the greatest of the all time heavies. The late editor of the Ring, Nat Loubet, rated Joe Louis number one on his list of heavyweight greats. Boxing historians such as Dan Daniel, Lew Eskin, Ted Carroll, and Bill Gallo all consider Joe Louis to be the greatest heavyweight champion. John Durant, author of "The Heavyweight Champions" rated him as the # 1 heavyweight of all time. Bert Sugar rates Joe Louis # 2 at heavyweight. The Aug. 1980 issue of the Ring rated Louis as the second greatest fighter in history behind only Sugar Ray Robinson. The Holiday 1998 issue of the Ring rated Louis second behind Muhammad Ali at heavyweight. Former heavyweight champ and boxing historian Mike Tyson, in the HBO video, "Tyson and the Heavyweights" (1988), said of Louis, "It's difficult to see anyone beating him even Muhammad Ali". Cox's Corner rates Joe Louis # 1 among All Time Heavyweights.
Futch considered Louis,Ali ,and Johnson to be equal actually.Futch did not devise the strategy to Frazier used to defeat Ali , Joe fought his normal fight and Futch was not the chief second ,Yank Durham was .
Samuel Ettima You make a good case. The Joe Louis I just saw could whip most any man. The Ali that beat Cleveland Williams would have been extremely hard to hit though.
They are all good sources who deserve respect but a far better one is one of the very best boxing minds that ever lived, the great Ray Arcel who was in Benny Leonard's corner and also Roberto Duran's. Two of the possibly three greatest lightweight champions of all time along with the great Joe Gans. Arcel saw a young Dempsey train and fight up close in the flesh. He was also in the opponent's corner for several of Joe Louis's title defences, which uniquely qualifies his opinion. Arcel said that as much as he highly respected Louis, Jack Dempsey at his peak in 1919 would have destroyed Louis quickly. Arcel said that Dempsey was far more than just a crude slugger as many people think. He praised Dempsey's defence, his ring generalship, his great chin and his vicious pantherlike attack. The film of Dempsey at his peak against Willard does not do this man justice as it is of such poor quality. We have no footage of the Fulton and Morris fights. In Ray Arcel we have the eyewitness testimony not of a writer or even a boxing historian but that of a professional boxing man and one of the greatest boxing trainers ever. I will take his opinion over any of the others mentioned. By the way, I absolutely love Joe Louis the greatest combination puncher and clean finisher I have ever seen on reliable footage.
Two of the top 3 (J.Johnson the other) greatest HWs of all-time. Each was a great puncher and 1-2 in that category all-time. Louis gets a slight nod because of his 25 straight successful defenses. However, Dempsey from 1919-1923 may have been the most devastating HW ever. After 1923 he was not the same hungry boxer he was then. Both at their peaks would be a colossal bout and probably end in a KO either way.
Similar power, Louise was a better technician and possibly counter puncher but jack was tougher and more aggressive. If jack could get to joe with punches he wouldn't let up or give Joe time to recover but if he couldn't get a good onslaught started joe could pick him apart. Its really up for grabs I think, they are pretty well matched.
mike BUDZINSKI I loved Ali my favorite. But if he got hit by Louis it would be over. His punches were picture perfect. Ali would have to stay on his bicycle.
Louis fought doing the late 30, and the 40s when most of the young and up coming fighters were drafted for war and many never came back. Louis fought some good fighters , most were over the hill and were not drafted. this was true of baseball as well a the quality of the game slipped. it gave others a chance to play and was the first time women got to play the game. it is the reason Louis was champion for almost 12 yrs.
JAMES HULL Sorry, that's mostly nonsense. Louis was himself drafted, and like the vast majority of other draftees he did come back. Your chances of getting killed or seriously wounded as a soldier in a war are actually quite small. Large numbers of WWII infantry never even fired their weapons in combat.
It is interesting that such a video exists comparatively . Dempsey wrote Championship Fighter in response to Joe Louis' claim that you have to be born a puncher. The idea that everyone can punch. I also think the explosive power of Dempsey would have won against Joe Louis. It is such a velocity that he wasn't used to. Even with the Tunney fights, which he lost, it was very amazing how many punches were thrown in a short amount of time with the combos of Dempsey's.
I can't believe may their souls rest peace..But how could anybody believe Dempsey would have beaten a man that held the Heavyweight belt for like 10 years, like 20 something tittle defenses..Louis had to fight men like Ezzard Charles,Jersey Joe Wallcot,Max bear and other..Demsey didn't have the same competition. Dempsey never fought one of the greatest fighter of his time Harry Wiles...Man both had knockout power but Louis clean out his division knocking men out for about ten years making like 20 tittle defenses. While Dempsey made like,I think maybe 5 tittle defenses in 7 years..Louis is in the top 3 greatest Heavyweights of them all.....
dempsey would have destoryed louis he was faster than louis and had a harder punch they were around the same size as each other theres no man who weighted the same as dempsey that would have beaten him in his peak dempsey destoryed men
You have to remember Dempsey Did not have to go to a neutral corner when scoring a knockdown he stood right over falling fighter and they never really had a chance to get up, In Louis era you had to go to a neutral corner when scoring a knockdown.
Dempsey avoided some great black fighters. If you wanna play "what if", do it with Dempsey vs Sam Langford, Sam McVey, Harry Wills, or Joe Jeanette. He refused to fight each of them. Might as well add Joe Louis to the list, and call the fight off.
Two of my favourite boxers. Louis had the skill but Dempsey was a Savage beast. Dempsey would be in trouble quite a few times but would be relentless and could win by stoppage in the latter rounds.
The one thing that we in our affluent society cannot grasp is the hunger these early fighters had . They would fight you twenty rounds for a ham sandwich! See how lean they were ,every day life was tough . No steroids , just pure steel amd determination. The finest fighters in human history . Forget your muscle bound pumped up MMA, hunger wins fights .
Both were great punchers but Dempsey had the better chin. I'll take Dempsey in this one but they might be #1 all time vs #2 all time. Both would beat Ali and tyson
Dempsey was a hungry fighter and puncher. Dempsey weighed 180 for the Willard fight. That was in his prime. Louis weighed around 199 in his prime. will never know for sure. But I think louis was better boxer-puncher and might of beaten Dempsey. A young louis was knocked out by Max Schemling because louis dropped his left jab and Max countered. I love Dempsey. He was truly a fierce fighter. it's up for the imagination as Ali vs. Marciano? All great men and fighters, and respected.
If you stood flat footed right in front of Dempsey there's a good chance he would knock your head off. Tunney was on his bicycle during their fights and it saved his life. He knew he could never go toe to toe with Dempsey. Dempsey caught him with a brutal left in the second fight and had Dempsey went straight to his corner the long count would never have happened. Tunney wouldn't have made it up in just ten seconds.
@@hughmorrison8931 I agree. Tunney ran from Dempsey, although good defense, Dempsey was a better fighter. Kind of like Ali running from Sonney Liston. If anyone went toe to toe with Liston in his prime would have been tough. Dempsey and Liston were brutal in their prime. Mike Tyson was weak compared to those two. And I think Tyson would admit to that.
@@2tycade isn't boxing about dodging and weaving. U want ali and tunney to stand still like a punching bag to get knockout. U must be crazy. Its something called defense. How is dempsey better than tunney if he lost the fight. Muhammad ali is a better boxer that sonny liston no debate just facts.
I have to say,.... Father in heaven bless ALL these boxers. They had problems financially, health issues, drug issues, etc., etc., etc. Yet they fought inside and outside the ring. And most,....Got NOTHING for their troubles!! Mohammad Ali was a man of principle and faced prison time to fight, to NOT fight people he had no business fighting. Joe Lewis fought for what he thought was right and served his country well. And then fought old age while getting screwed by they SYSTEM of money grabbers. Sonny Liston gets out of Prison and fights for his life and the demons he had in his life. Rocky Marciano fought through broken arms and broken blood vessels from hitting so hard, while having his nose hanging off the side of his face. **These are just a few.** The human spirit is alive and well within ALL these men who fight. They are TRUE American heroes!!
Heres how I believe this fight would happen Round 1; Joe is patiently stalking Dempsey who plays along, Joe lands a hard one-two that frustrates Dempsey, Jack starts wildly swinging at Louis' head but Joe ducks or slips every hook, Dempsey low blows Louis causing him to break his guard and grunt in pain, Dempsey then tears away at Louis' ribs and hips while continously weaving past all of his 1 2 attempts Round 2; Jack and Louis brutally battle which results in Louis losing a molar-tooth as a result of a hard right and getting gruesomely swollen, Dempsey gets cut under each eye and gets a broken rib, Dempsey slips and moves in close enough to land 5 hooks to the body before shooting up with a hard right uppercut..Louis is out for the ten count and Dempsey is the victor by KO
Louis hands down. Too much technique. He has hand speed, versatility of combinations from any angle with either hand, superior rythem , perfect balance and punching levrerage at all times. etc. etc. Dempsey's only chance is a hail mary left hook, and Louis was never susceptible to the left hook. If he has a weakness, it's to the straight right hand counter ( ala Schmeling and Walcott)...but Dempsey was not a right hand puncher. The more interesting dream fight to me, that no one ever mentions.. is Tunney vs. Louis. Tunney had the footwork and style, that could have made for a much better fight. He would have been a bigger Billy Conn in many ways. Lateral movement was always a problem for Louis. Though I do believe Tunney too, would have been stopped by Louis' superior punching technique, and power.
He wasn't an old man when Baer and Galento dropped him or whenSchmeling kod him.I take Dempsey to ko Louis inside 2rds. " Dempsey was not a right hand puncher?"LOL His right hand was named IRON MIKE that's where Tyson got it from! You really need to do some research.
He was never hurt by Baer or Galento; and jumped up like Jack N the Box to beat the living shit out of both of them..Any champion from the real days (pre 1985) may get caught with a good shot, but when they bounce back, totally unfazed, and KO both opponents basically 1 round later (Baer & Galento ): I wouldn't cite that as a pattern of being susceptible to left hooks. Also, too bad from 1919 on, we don't have film of Dempsey being a dangerous right puncher with "Iron Mike.." All of His fights, even the fixed/ staged ones, show him as a crouching, left hooker.
No, Mike Stivic...I MEANT Cassius Clay! Ali was his muslim name. And you know the hell they've been inflicting on the world. I always hated Clay's guts. Why God chose to endow that venom-spewing bastard with extraterrestrial-like boxing skills is beyond me. I'm just glad that during the last quarter-century of his life, Clay was silenced. And suffered.
No way! Dempsey was much quicker. Lewis would have been waiting to do his 1 and 2 punch, left/right, but after the first 10 seconds Lewis would realize that's a bad tactic, and would have just tried to guard himself,
When Joe Louis hit you, you were knocked out and not moving. Jacks opponents were knocked down but still awake. I believe Joe Louis would have knocked Jack Dempsey out
Almost a 17 year age difference. There are rumors, only rumors, the a 27 year old Dempsey fought a 43 year old, years out of retirement Johnson, but....nah.
Of course,, we'll never know because they will never fight. It would be an interesting fight. Since both would be careful of the other's power it could become a very strategic fight at least in the early rounds. Louis liked to fight at a punching distance. Dempsey liked to get close, put his head in your chest, and turn it into a mauling, wrestling in fight. Dempsey also had a great chin because of the way he kept his chin tucked into his chest. When Dempsey came bobbing and weaving in towards him Louis would need to hurt him with his straight rights and lefts. If Dempsey could get inside and stay inside without getting knocked out on the way in it would be advantage, Dempsey. lf Louis could hurt Dempsey when he came in it would be advantage Louis. I see a very strategic fight with the winner being the one that didn't make the big mistake. Could go either way.
I think you have it backwards, Lewis liked close in, and Dempsey like to swing wide and jab. Dempsey didn't need to get inside and stay inside. Lewis would have been trying to get away from the mauler. Lewis would have been a sitting duck with his standup stationary style. Dempsey would have floored him. First dazed him, and the just keep battering him to the canvass.
Styles make fights and Louis hated being pressured, many less fighters like Tommy Farr and Arturo Gudoy stood right in front of Louis and were in no danger of being KOd, neither would Jack who was tough as nails. As much as I love Louis, and think he’s better overall I can’t see him surviving a hungry (1919) Dempsey, I don’t think Louis could handle that hook and non stop punching, but of course I could be wrong
This might be the best fight of all the what if fights? Who wins ? Who knows, it depends when they fight and with what rules. I.M.O I would not be surprised if either man wins, Dempsey had the far better chin, and he would need it because Louis was one of the most accurate punchers of all time. Dempsey had the most 1st round K.O's of any hwt champ. Who wins ? Whoever gets there 1st ?
Dempsey would have won against Lewis. The reason is Dempsey had quicker hands and would have beat Lewis to the punch. Dempsey had a longer reach/jab that would have beat Lewis to the punch, and Dempsey just kept battering his opponents to the floor. only 2 men fought both louis & dempsey while both were champs. both sharkey & schmeling, said, though both were great, it was dempsey who was the harder hitter & better fighter. thats documented & should be weighed w/ respect.... furthermore, legendary trainer, ray arcel saw all the greats up close from dempsey to duran, and to his dying day, he claims prime dempsey was the best fighter he ever saw... it amazes me how so many new school fans diss the manassa mauler. dempsey was boxers best mixture of innovative technique combined w/ raw toughness & animal savagary.
Dempsey KO'd Sharkey in *7*. Louis KO'd Sharkey in *3*. Schmeling sparred 2 rounds w/Dempsey. Louis avenged his loss by KO-ing Schmeling in ROUND *1*. The reason they MIGHT have said Dempsey hit harder is because they NEVER FELT A THING when Joe knocked them out:^)
Joe Louis would have beat the breaks off Dempsey. I love jack Dempsey but the game of boxing had evolved by the time Joe Louis came around. Louis had nice hard straight punches and a powerful jab. The haymakers style Dempsey possessed was already obsolete
No he wouldn't of. Dempsey would have held his own, he was like a Mike Tyson and Dempsey's left was as hard as his right. He was a much harder hitter than Louis.
if these two fought say three times i would say louis would win two and dempsey one due to louis faster and overall better punching and jabbing. dempsey may have won once due to his stlye and his chin. but these are the two great punchers in heavyweight history what with thier unparelled compact punching power and snap; and perhaps the two best heavyweights ever. great great fighters
Jack Blackburn was a way more skilled fighter and trainer then Doc Kerns ever could be. Dempsey was tough and skilled for that area for sure. But Lewis was just more skilled of a fighter. Dempsey would not go down easy but Lewis would come out on top for sure. Same thing for Marciano also he would bet Dempsey. Dempsey was killer but when he got in there with skilled fighters he had trouble. Dempseys gets why to much credit for that Willard fight Willard was NO fighter he was just a big country boy that had no skills at all as a fighter big slow and no skills. Like Dempsey always said those big slow guys are meat for me..
I wouldn't be so sure - the dancing master ali was faster than Joe Louis - it would have been a great fight. Now Fraizer vs Lewis or Fraizer vs Marciano would have been brutal - Ali and George Foreman both could have beaten anyone at any time they may have lost as well but they were both the best of the best Lewis and Marciano right up there you just never know - they were men with skin and bone and blood any of them could have won at any time but look what Foreman did to smoking Joe Fraizer 2 times he destroyed him. Ali was never destroyed.
I've got to go with joe, jack had trouble with boxers and joe was a boxer and puncher jack would rush at joe but joe had the hand speed to block his punches and counter and when he counters his opponents it was all over.
There's nota chance Joe would've beaten Dempsey, look at Jess Willard!! Joe Louis fell to Marciano, the heavyweight with the shortest reach in heavyweight boxing history!!
I agree. Lewis tried to go toe to toe with Rocky, and got knocked out of the ring. Dempsey wouldn't have had to go toe to toe. Dempsey was quicker, longer reach, tough chin, and more stamina than Lewis.
so whats your point? any heavyweight can hurt another heavyweight. also dempsey never told anyone that he had a bad hand going into that fight. it was his only loss. and also many believe fight was fixed. oliver mccall and that other blk fighter knocked out lennox lewis with one punch. max schemling knocked out joe louis in 1936. plus it was money with gene tunney that was involved with not fighting harry wills. dempsey would of knocked wills out. no doubt.
My heart is with Louis. who I'll always say was the world's greatest heavyweight. But my money's on Dempsey by a knockout inside of 3. Dempsey wasn't as great a heavyweight but there's something about their styles that puts Dempsey ahead in a match.

dempsey was a brutal fighter, banging away at the body to wear his man down, then up stairs pop pop, he could put a man away with body punches and to the head aswell. i wish i had the pleasure to watch dempsey back in the day, l would of took him on in a bar room brawl, he would of done me but i would of loved it, i been hit with hammers, motorbike helmets, baseball bats the lot, i only went down when id been drinking, i loved pain 80's 90's, i have slight brain damge but i'm still here lol.
I read a story of how Joe Louis once punched a man so hard, that the bottom teeth protruded from the lower lip, i mean literary cut through the gums. Its a damn shame how uncle sam treated Joe Louis in the end.
Fight wouldn't happen. Dempsey and Kerns would draw color line on Joe like they did Wills. Louis was a better technician . Dempsey threw wide punches. Louis would ko him for sure.

It's cool my friend, you can keep it up here, thank you for the kind words.

Both of them were amazing boxers but in prime, Jack would win. I just feel like he’d be willing to put more in than Louis.
Naa you're dreaming
Jeez, the accuracy of Louis's punches !
this isnt joe louis, jeck dempsey never fought joe louis
@@NateColman It’s a highlight video of both of them fool.
Bert Sugar rated Louis 1 and Dempsey 5
I think dempsey would land a vicious hit stop am early fight
Ali would beat Johnson and Dempsey in one night no problem
Similar power, Louise was a better technician and possibly counter puncher but jack was tougher and more aggressive. If jack could get to joe with punches he wouldn't let up or give Joe time to recover but if he couldn't get a good onslaught started joe could pick him apart. Its really up for grabs I think, they are pretty well matched.
During Ali's time no one called him the greatest except himself. now that time has gone by people think he was better than he was
mike BUDZINSKI psshhht Ali is the greatest
mike BUDZINSKI I loved Ali my favorite. But if he got hit by Louis it would be over. His punches were picture perfect. Ali would have to stay on his bicycle.
mike BUDZINSKI ali said it himself....... "i said i was the greatest even before i knew i was"
@@deacontheseer4804 Ali the Greatest.
mike budzinski what ?
That fight never happened. When Louis fought for the first time (1934) Dempsey was retired (since 1927).
JAMES HULL This is a great point. But I would have to see the fighter of that era that could take the prime Louis. Louis served as well in the Army.
Name those fighters.
@@polymath7 Louis served, but never saw combat. Spent his time doing Army PR and exhibition matches.
The scientific ferocity of Jack Dempsey vs the technical brilliance of Joe Louis.
nice footage of those guys. Jack Dempsey really surprised everyone when he pummeled Jess Willard.
Louis had tighter punches but dempsey was more ferocious I think dempsey wins 2 out of 3
It is interesting that such a video exists comparatively .
Both guys smash hard, great fight
Stole this from Hanzagod. You should have called it a re-upload and saved yourself from a dislike
They are both bad ass...wouldn't want to fight either one..... I think it would of been one for the history books!
BS. Rocky destroyed Louis and so would of Dempsey
dempsey would have destoryed louis he was faster than louis and had a harder punch they were around the same size as each other theres no man who weighted the same as dempsey that would have beaten him in his peak dempsey destoryed men
Dempsey got beat up twice by Gene Tunney, Joe Louis was a harder and faster puncher then Tunney,Louis would KO Dempsey in 6 rounds
@sha broussard these ppl are crazy Dempsey would ko anybody half of his fights he didn't really train and had injuries lol still whooping ass
Louis would have about 20 pounds on him. 204-185
This must've felt like Lebron v.s. Kobe back in the day
Two of my favourite boxers.
How come nobody talks about how little Harry Greb would bust Dempsey up in sparring sessions?
A smaller fighter is usually quicker n a smaller target , but if he ever got , bye !
@@jessielebouef644 Gene Tunney was 65-1-1. His _only_ loss was to Greb. Not _because_ Greb was smaller, but rather, because Greb was _Greb_ .
Both were great punchers but Dempsey had the better chin. I'll take Dempsey in this one but they might be #1 all time vs #2 all time. Both would beat Ali and tyson
Exactly Jones, lets not forget Dempsey utiiized color line and certainly drawn color line on Louis.
@@hollisray6212 Dempsey is literally darker than Louis lol.
@@tomharrington7985 Dempsey was a tanned white man while Louis was biracial
@@brocksimmons345 it was a joke, im just saying louis fought like a white fighter.
@@tomharrington7985 Not really, he fought in an era full of white heavyweights and Louis was 100x above them in terms of skill
Roper , Dempsey was knocked out cold by 39 year old Flynn in 1. Louis made it to the 10th.
**These are just a few.**
The human spirit is alive and well within ALL these men who fight.
They are TRUE American heroes!!
Оба выдающиеся боксёры, но великие - те два, которые показаны в заставке.
Did I miss the fight! Witch fight was Dempsey and lewis???
Still waiting on those back baseball players
Wow!! Good work!
best boxers to watch the go aheads dempsey liston fraizer rocky lamota and ofcorse tyson and louis
Heres how I believe this fight would happen
Round 1; Joe is patiently stalking Dempsey who plays along, Joe lands a hard one-two that frustrates Dempsey, Jack starts wildly swinging at Louis' head but Joe ducks or slips every hook, Dempsey low blows Louis causing him to break his guard and grunt in pain, Dempsey then tears away at Louis' ribs and hips while continously weaving past all of his 1 2 attempts
Round 2; Jack and Louis brutally battle which results in Louis losing a molar-tooth as a result of a hard right and getting gruesomely swollen, Dempsey gets cut under each eye and gets a broken rib, Dempsey slips and moves in close enough to land 5 hooks to the body before shooting up with a hard right uppercut..Louis is out for the ten count and Dempsey is the victor by KO
jabbing jack: U BUMPED YOUR HEAD.
Hard to tell. I like to imagine 10 matches. That would show who is who. Most respect for these heroes.
Louis was knocked half out of the rinng by Buddy Baer's left hook and floored by Galento's.Marciano also finished him of with a left hook.
Inan Raeder yeah right please...he was a old man wheen he fought marchiano
You are right Inan. i have a huge collection of fight films and Dempsey was powerful with either hand
Nevermind Dempsey vs. Louis. What about Batman vs. Cassius Clay? Or Clay vs. James Bond
you mean Muhammad Ali.
Calling him Clay is disrespectful and the man didn't like it himself.
Who is Cassius Clay?
+Hal Pritzker aka low life, pathetic loser.
Buenos peliadores
you know johann trollmann?
Itd be a damn quick fight. Within 6 rounds. If it was prime vs prime id say 60% louis and dempsey 50%
60 / 50 split....You don't say? Call 911 he had a stroke back in 2018.
No way! Dempsey was much quicker. Lewis would have been waiting to do his 1 and 2 punch, left/right, but after the first 10 seconds Lewis would realize that's a bad tactic, and would have just tried to guard himself,
Wow
That’s bullshit, they never fought each other!!!!!
When Joe Louis hit you, you were knocked out and not moving. Jacks opponents were knocked down but still awake. I believe Joe Louis would have knocked Jack Dempsey out
Nope. Even Tyson said Dempsey was best

Dempsey Ran From Jack Johnson
Almost a 17 year age difference. There are rumors, only rumors, the a 27 year old Dempsey fought a 43 year old, years out of retirement Johnson, but....nah.
what kind of tbag adds music to this?
Two great fighters, but Joe Louis had the skill. I must say Anthony Joshua reminds me of Louis.
Malcolm Walker ...lol please don't insult Joe Louis like that!
@@dappadondadda100 How is that an insult?
Louis. Dempsey never met a counterpuncher
I dont think that you can R-US anything at they'll come getcha.
Two different eras. Joe Louis was still boxing in 1951.
Did jhang Aaron ever win 20 games and a cy young as a pitcher? I must be forgetting something.
Dempsey had no chance whatsoever against a primed Ali. Not even debatable. End of story !!!!!!
Do you agree?
only 2 men fought both louis & dempsey while both were champs. both sharkey & schmeling, said, though both were great, it was dempsey who was the harder hitter & better fighter. thats documented & should be weighed w/ respect.... furthermore, legendary trainer, ray arcel saw all the greats up close from dempsey to duran, and to his dying day, he claims prime dempsey was the best fighter he ever saw... it amazes me how so many new school fans diss the manassa mauler. dempsey was boxers best mixture of innovative technique combined w/ raw toughness & animal savagary.
Only one fighter fought both Louis and Dempsey and that was Jack Sharkey.
Dempsey KO'd Sharkey in *7*. Louis KO'd Sharkey in *3*. Schmeling sparred 2 rounds w/Dempsey. Louis avenged his loss by KO-ing Schmeling in ROUND *1*. The reason they MIGHT have said Dempsey hit harder is because they NEVER FELT A THING when Joe knocked them out:^)
He was as tough and rugged as they come. In those respects the only one like him was rocky marciano, basically they were both murderers in the ring.
It's Louis, all day. Bigger and better.
Whose who?
What is this? A simulator??
Joe Louis would have beat the breaks off Dempsey. I love jack Dempsey but the game of boxing had evolved by the time Joe Louis came around. Louis had nice hard straight punches and a powerful jab. The haymakers style Dempsey possessed was already obsolete
Louis would knock Dempsey out in 4-5 rounds easy
No he wouldn't of. Dempsey would have held his own, he was like a Mike Tyson and Dempsey's left was as hard as his right. He was a much harder hitter than Louis.
if these two fought say three times i would say louis would win two and dempsey one due to louis faster and overall better punching and jabbing. dempsey may have won once due to his stlye and his chin. but these are the two great punchers in heavyweight history what with thier unparelled compact punching power and snap; and perhaps the two best heavyweights ever. great great fighters
Dempsey by a whisker
i would have to say jack dempseys aggressive style would beat joe louis by a KO
Like Dempsey always said those big slow guys are meat for me..
dempsey i would favor by ko
They never fought what are you playing at

Louis would have kicked Ali's behind.
Maybe while Ali was sleeping.
ZIVA BROGA louis fell to marciano at 37 that was his last fight
I agree. Lewis tried to go toe to toe with Rocky, and got knocked out of the ring. Dempsey wouldn't have had to go toe to toe. Dempsey was quicker, longer reach, tough chin, and more stamina than Lewis.

so whats your point? any heavyweight can hurt another heavyweight. also dempsey never told anyone that he had a bad hand going into that fight. it was his only loss. and also many believe fight was fixed. oliver mccall and that other blk fighter knocked out lennox lewis with one punch. max schemling knocked out joe louis in 1936. plus it was money with gene tunney that was involved with not fighting harry wills. dempsey would of knocked wills out. no doubt.

But was it Louis?
This is Willard vs Dempsey clips boooooooo
My heart is with Louis. who I'll always say was the world's greatest heavyweight. But my money's on Dempsey by a knockout inside of 3. Dempsey wasn't as great a heavyweight but there's something about their styles that puts Dempsey ahead in a match.
Tyson admits that he copied a lot of Dempsey's style.
dempsey was a brutal fighter, banging away at the body to wear his man down, then up stairs pop pop, he could put a man away with body punches and to the head aswell. i wish i had the pleasure to watch dempsey back in the day, l would of took him on in a bar room brawl, he would of done me but i would of loved it, i been hit with hammers, motorbike helmets, baseball bats the lot, i only went down when id been drinking, i loved pain 80's 90's, i have slight brain damge but i'm still here lol.
I read a story of how Joe Louis once punched a man so hard, that the bottom teeth protruded from the lower lip, i mean literary cut through the gums. Its a damn shame how uncle sam treated Joe Louis in the end.
