      Exactly, I have a close friend that works on cellphone towers. If you do your job correctly, use the gear correctly, and have a responsible crew the chances of something failing is slim. Responsible companies make you go through over a month of training before you can even start your job to make sure you can do it.

      All these cable shows are overly dramatized around fabricated pressure points -- always the time rush for various reason, the sun is setting, yadda yada. That's all routine construction stuff but the way these shows hype it so that viewers get all stressed in the watching, is just cheap eye candy. I won't watch another one. I'm not buying hype.

      I’m also sure you’ve seen many “reality tv” shows. It doesn’t matter where you work, it doesn’t even matter if it’s a family business.
      If you ever act like that to a coworker, much less your boss? Your going to get fired.
      And if it’s someone you just met? Your going to get the living shit beat out of you.

  • @ac4uv
    @ac4uv Před 5 lety +10

    This show does accurately demonstrate how 'some' tower companies operate. The tower crews I hire are mindful, team oriented and professional. They decide if the project is going to take an extra day and it's OK if it does. Tower workers are under paid, towers are not universally designed with safety in the forefront. Many towers are not human friendly, I hate asking my crew to work towers like this. The video photography is outstanding. For those wanting to join a tower crew, know the work is intense, dangerous even when your hyper-safety oriented, danger is ever present (environmental, rigging, accidents, Etc.). There are plenty of videos out there that show how tower life is. All the talk about death and danger was weird. Talk about how to do the job safely and what you're going to do when the day is over, otherwise your talking like you are addicted to danger.

    • @mattjack3983
      @mattjack3983 Před 2 lety

      Yeah i found all the death talk to be really strange. I worked as a rigger for several years, and death was not brought up anywhere near that much. Like u mentioned, we mainly talked about the job, and the safest most efficient way to get it completed. No one really fixated on death an danger like some kind of adrenaline junkie. Id never want to be on a job with this crew.

    As a female tower climber this is a little embarrassing. Once you are above 100 ft it's pretty much all the same unless you're doing some crazy 1200 + tower. It's also not that physically demanding depending on the work you are doing on the tower and the extra weight of any tools you bring up. I encourage any woman interested in a career in climbing to try it out. Trust your gear and you really don't have much to worry about. You only really get better at climbing by actually climbing so give it some time and don't worry if you start off slow. I've been climbing for about 7 months now and my tallest tower so far was 440ft (190-300 is average), so nothing crazy yet. As far as being a woman in this industry I've had more problems with being coddled than I have anyone hating on me for being female. Most guys in the industry don't care as long as you pull your weight.
