- In today's video, I go over repairing this Porsche 944's gauge cluster, fuel injector, and the all too common "broken clip" that controls the heater diverter valve causing your heat to be on full time.
I also go over the testing/troubleshooting process on the barn door/trap door style mass air flow sensor with a multimeter. You should be able to do this as well following the testing procedure I used at this link:
clarks-garage.com/shop-manual...
Additionally, the car gets washed up and goes on a 5hr journey to a car show I attend yearly where we end up saying goodbye to the Porsche.

In this video we go over some very common Porsche 944 problems then say goodbye to the newest project car! It has a new owner, and a new lease on life after saving it from the crusher!
As a long-time water-cooled P-Car owner, I can tell you that we always have a few spare '53' relays.
400 bucks for a 944 in this great shape, what a bargain, congrats.....
Congrats on the sale. A little troubleshooting and TLC goes a long way.
Sure does. This is stuff anyone can do without super complicated tools. They aren't all "that" complicated in the grand scheme of things.
Damn I love those old 944s
Me too. I would easily buy another one (or another model for that matter) if I come across another deal like this. They are a lot of fun for what they are.
Well done on the repair. Glad to see you made good money on it👍
Thanks buddy, I was confident it would make it after beating on it for a couple of days
Good stuff
Love the new theme music. Way better than that insatious caterwauling you had on before. Cheers bud.
Can't please everyone, and CZcams is a literal minefield for using audio. I'll probably just stop using it at some point.
My old 944 was running bad due to generic plug cables. Turned out it needs cables that can consistently deliver higher voltages.
944! I have owned two - a 1984 that I loved and a 1988 that I didn't love and was happy to send it to a new home. I just got into flipping Mini Cooper R53 and those are fun little cars. Perfect for your track and auto crossing. I would strongly suggest you look into a manual Mini Cooper S R53 (2004 - 2006). With a few simple modifications (Supercharger pulley, suspension) they are street legal go karts.
I always liked the 944s back in the the day. They look awesome in Red or Black 😎
This was a factory red car. I'd prefer it in red, but the grey suits it pretty well too IMO
@@Greenlightfilming I like them best with a V8 swap. There's one near me with a crate 383 stroker. Runs string and sounds amazing with the hefty cam.
New sub to the channel. Great job on the Porsche ! I really like your content! I wasn't sure why you were guessing about the tires age when the date of the tire is on the sidewall. You just seem too knowledgeable not to know that. If there's no date, it's a really old tire. Kind of like finding what year of a car by looking at the date on the rear light lenses. It will be wrong occasionally if they kept the same rear lenses for multiple years. I'm not sure if they still stamp lenses with the year or not. .
By no means am I trying to correct you or anything at all. I'd just be surprised if you didn't know about the tires. I picked up a ton of little things like that long ago, from my Dad who was in the car business for 45 years. And that I've had 38 cars, so that helped He used to tell me that if someone owns a car for a pretty long time, they'd still find out things they didn't know by reading the owners manual. I've still never done that... lol...
I had a chance to buy one of these for $800 a couple years back. The only thing that stopped me is how expensive it is to get parts. Now that I see this, I wish I would've picked it up. Keep the food content rolling! And let me know if you need a track manager and/or help to get it cleaned up. You're dead on when you say how close the car community is. It just keeps growing by the day.
***Edit... Sorry for the novel...lol...
No sweat! Thanks for checking out the video too. I didn't see any dates on the tires which left me wondering how old they really were. Maybe I missed the stamping but I just didn't see it at a glance anywhere. I understand where you are coming from, and appreciate you being kind about it lol. People are just ruthless on the internet.
I swapped all 4 injectors on my previous 944 and all I had to do was beat it into submission???
Hell yea
Hint of advice, there is a date code on every tire manufactured after 1995. There are several websites to go on that you plug that number off the tire into and it'll tell you what year those tires were made..
The turbo cars run so much better lol. Actually quite fast for what they are.
Oh I'm sure they were. If this car had another 50hp and you felt boost like a turbo car it would be a ton of fun. Especially with a 5 speed.
If you would have kept its it makes an interesting car for engine swaps. The audi engine is as heavy as a mooring block. Maybe a Boxster engine and a vintage air setup and it would be a fun little beast.
I guess tires expire every 10 years so I’d have replaced them for new ones before going on the highway.
I've got a cheap hobo freight battery checker that gets used a LOT.. simple way to check battery life!!
Does it seem to be pretty reliable? That's one tool that I don't have that I should have
@@Greenlightfilming I've had mine 5 years and ain't failed me yet!! 😎😎😎👍👍👍
The old trap door maf. Known for being junk.
Ain't that little flapper door similar to the variable ventury Ford used in the 80's?
I believe so, yes. Many make and models used the same sort of Bosch unit I'm sure.
#PorscheNoSubstitute944
so did you think it needed a new radiator?
Negative. If you are referring to the heat coming into the car, that was because the HVAC blend rod failed. Radiator was fine.
Somewhere some ecowhackos saying "Your polluting the air, dude!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
Haha you're probably right too
Never a bad day when you can make $$$ on a old car.
Agreed! I'd do this more if it was this easy lol.

Ive worked on Porsches for 15 years and I come across two different people. People who say Porsch because thats all they ever heard, and then people who are a bit fancier and "knows" that its pronounced Porscha. It isnt pronounced Porsch or Porscha, its Pronounced Porsche, because thats what it fucking says.
Don't sell too many or they'll be after you to pay taxes and get a dealer's license.
