Beginner's Combat Guide To Yakuza 6: The Song of Life

- In preparation for the upcoming demo and the eventual release of Yakuza 6, just like with 0 and Kiwami, I present to you guys some vital things that you should be aware of when it comes to Yakuza 6's combat. Hopefully this'll help you with a thing or two and you'll have an easier, more pleasant time with the game's combat.

IGN: Press Square until you get low on health. Press Start, use a Staminan Royale, then unpause and press square again! Power to the players!
To be fair, that was basically my strategy for Yakuza 0.
It was partly the game designer's fault for making tons of inventory for health replenishments. If it has little inventory slots like in Resident Evil game for example, then maybe they'll learn how to dodge in between attacks.
Izwan Fabstrom Yakuza 6 does have less capacity for healing items and the really good healing items are locked behind you completing the clan fights.
Not just that, on Normal mode, the damage output from many enemies made it seem like Kiryu being punched by lots of 10 years old. Legend should have been the actual hard mode. Actual Legend difficulty should be like ISHIN's legend difficulty.
@@555spank less?? You can hold 10 of each healing item, I could not tell you that holding 20 Staminan royal and Staminan + is just Overkill against Jo Amon
Note: If you're not feeling up to a fight, even if the enemies catch up to you, you can flee from enemies, as there are no more crowds of civilians when you enter combat.
The upgrades are literally customizing how you want kiryu to be. A powerhouse or being defensive. I like that, literally ill be on the defense side then being a powerhouse.
The Dragon engine combat is still very much deficient.
But it will improve gradually.
Like a perfect "kiwami 1"engine.
it seems like kiwami 2 is already a really big step up from 6's combat cause they speed it up. I think alot is riding on how ichiban plays. Personally i pray they can at least work styles into things more.
하다보니까 용과 같이 6의 움직임이 괜찮은데, 얼티메이트 히트 모드의 지뢰보정 만큼은 참아줄 수 없더라고요 ㅠ 9장 이상 넘어가면 기하급수적으로 방어력 저하 보정이 생겨서 공격하기 어렵더라고요. 드롭킥은 진짜 용과 같이 사상 최강의 성능이니만큼 봐줍시다

To all those who haven't played it yet: at first it'll feel REALLy weird and wonky, but stick with it. Eventually you get used to the new engine.
Same, great game. Improved upon what 6 did in a lot of ways.
Taking me some time as it's so like wacky at times. Like environment has alot in execution in this game. The combat is really hard for me as I only played Yakuza 0 and 1,2 on ps2

Something to add; only use the □□△△ with thin bosses and enemies like Akiyama and Yūta, it won't trip enemies like Ed or fat enemies.
canadmexi you don’t even need to trip them. You don’t have any ground Heat Action ( I was like what the fuck ) so just use Heat Aura for that slow-mo Heat Action.
Kamran Dadashov It still only damages certain enemies so I thought it was a useful tip.

We can't blame Kiryu in Yakuza 6 when he was pretty old at this point, I guess I can understand why his finishing blow is a little bit slower than Yakuza kiwami 2

6's combat looks more fun and interesting than 0 and Kiwami. I wonder if this is the same for Kiwami 2 which if it does then that would be awesome especially that extreme heat mode rush combo.
Kiwami 2's combat is much, much better in many aspects. It takes what 6 brought and improves it further, it changes and adds things that are kind of slight, but at the same time they make all the difference.
Look at Kiwami 2 combat and 6 combat at maxed speed I can safely say combo in Kiwami 2 is even faster but without some downside though
Tovarish Tony i only prefer 0/K gameplay since they feel more arcade like. Maybe it's just the framerate
6's combat is great.
It's not. I hate being stun locked in big battles by fat dudes, and hate how slow boss battles feel now. I miss Rush mode, it made the game feel 10x more epic.

Definitely. Kiwami 2 brings some pretty amazing improvements, there's no reason for me not to cover them.
gotta say even with the speed boost kiryus combos still come slower and less sharper compared to his proper dragon of dojima combos. I get that they're trying to go for realism in the combat for the dragon engine but it's seriously irritating how he plays plays compared to previous games even in kiwami 2

@Animated Gamer, That's no different than any yakuza game for the most part, 6 was created with a new engine and the combat was remade, kiwami 2 builds upon it even further, just like everything 1 all the way up to kiwami.
When I got used to his full combo speed, combat was pretty damn fast. I platinumed 6.
Do the heat actions in this game just not fvcking work?
personally, i think 6's combat system is bland. i much prefer the combat from 0, how there are 3 combat styles to meet specific situations.

Personally, I just finished 0 and I prefer 6's combat. While I loved 0's and Kiwami's mechanics (those in line with all the previous entries), I think the new one is great for a 1st iteration. Not to mention, while people praise the combat of 0, it was only in Kiwami that the styles felt truly integrated with style switches (taunts, getting up from dmg etc.). In 0 I also found certain styles ultimately trumped some others; like Kiryu's beast style was honestly absurd with both crazy defensive options and damage output and Majima's breaker style was op once fully upgraded (hell, all of Majima's styles were strong which isn't a bad thing, but I never felt inclined to switch around unless I was fighting Mr Shakedown).
Honestly, my only real gripe with 6's combat so far, is that Kiryu doesn't seem to be able to pick people up off the ground, and the general lack of weapons. I really don't miss the 4 styles. In fact, granted this is just my personal taste, I prefer having just one combat style that you can fully explore. I often felt like I had to relearn a character between chapters because each style felt so different from the others (Breaker and Mad dog style had completely different rhythms which always took some getting used to). Tldr; for me, less is sometimes more.

I don't get blocking. You can only block if you're facing directly at the guy whose attacking you, but they attack you from all sides and you never know who is going to attack. So if you're attacking one guy and someone to the side or behind punches, you can't block them at all. and often the dodge doesn't work in case you would suggest that, because it seems you're always stuck in another animation.

i suggested my friends to play yakuza 0 1st then yakuza kiwami next and when they are ready to make a huge jump to yakuza 6 and then it will be a rollercoaster ride with the dragon of dojima himself

Some bugger within me still thinks that the devs should do a massive update on 6 to make it look more like Kiwami 2. But, hey, I guess it gets the people more excited to get the latter game.

The minigames give a lot experience too. The batting cages, playing darts, even cybering with porn-star Anri Okita in the internet cafe.

Just started playing Yakuza 6 on Xbox and BOY, Kiwami 2 did extremely better than this Ragdoll mess that is Yakuza 6’s combat. When bosses enter on heat mode Kiryu from a badass turns into a walking piñata early in the game

How much does Kiwami 2 add to the combat of this game? I was thinking about exporting it some time because I already know the plot and don't need to read much but I couldn't really find a comprehensive list so to speak of the improvements it makes over 6. I was waiting until the english yakuza 6 demo to see if I liked how the new engine played but if the things kiwami 2 does make it that much better then there's no question.
MarshmallowChairs Kiwami 2 adds weapons and more heat moves.The catch is the annoying stuff you had to do in Yakuza 2 to unlock certain skills is also in Kiwami 2 like the acupuncturist.

I don't like how the battle system is basically physics based now. It feels more like a Dynasty Warriors game where you do a single attack all the enemies in front of you get launched away. I wish they would have just updated the old system a bit... And kept it in 60fps. :(

Quick question: I've only played Yakuza 0 and Kiwami. Should I wait for a western release of yakuza Kiwami 2 or since that is apparently a refinement of this system, should I try to play the original Yakuza 2 and play up to 6 and save Kiwami 2 for it's refinement?
It's best to play them in release order as you've mentioned to really feel all the enhancements brought with each entry. So if you are able to do that, then definitely go for it and start with original 2.

Sorry to keep asking question, but now I have a new problem: How would I be able to get a copy of Y2 with english subs but with the Japanese VA? Is this possible with official games or would I need to do emulation? I really don't want to hear the english VAs since they're... unique.
Yakuza 1 is the only game that has English dubs in it, so you're good.
Oh, that's good. Also jesus, why does original Y2 cost so much?! I wasn't expecting this.
Edit: Was able to order a used one that is in very good condition, 10 dollars less than the brand new one.

No, something to keep in mind is that 6 cut a lot of heat actions.
Indeed, 6 tried to keep returning content at a minimum for once, which is a nice change, but that's why it got bashed to no end, in my opinion. But yet, even when content is recycled, people will still give it shit, it really is an endless cycle. Proof: Kiwami 2. Unfortunately, there's a lot of heat actions in 6 that are very specific, which is why I think many people get the impression it barely has anything new in terms of heat actions.

Even though I find this guide unnecessary ( due to imbalacing of this game ) good job for putting effort into this.
Also you should have mentioned some of Heat Aura special like that annoying nearby objects that Kiryu grabs automatically and the way to avoid it is to hold L2

They should all be intact. Licensed music pieces are all in cutscenes, and only those are out.

Ahh so that's what fire extinguishers are for. I haven't done much of those, but you find them crammed in tight places like alleyways, try those.

Nope. But it's highly recommended as a means of getting good amounts of EXP.
That's great, because this game rewards that habit with useful EXP now whereas it was mostly heals and very low EXP in previous games, so you'll be right at home.
