Chinese secret police used umbrellas to prevent reporters from filming Tiananmen square on the 20th anniversary of the 1989 violent crackdown on pro-democracy protests.
The press wasn't interested in actually a video of Tianamen Square--everyone knows what's there (cops, soldiers, barriers). They wanted the "umbrella story". And they got it.
Lol, that was a good idea. To pass near the chinese embassy of the countries and let some open umbrellas there. Because they gonna need a LOT to hidden what happen that Jun 4.
altho that's usually the girls so yeah... i personally think the guy looks out of place too... i mean, the couple at around :26 looks normal, but the guys just hovering around w/ umbrellas look pretty conspicuous
lol, actually umbrellas out on a sunny day aren't all that uncommon in China. In fact, I myself use umbrellas during sunny days in china b/c I burn easily and i prefer umbrellas to slathering myself wit sunscreen. also, pale skin is seen as beautiful to many in china, so many ppl will put up umbrellas so they wont get tan, also.
I think they just didn't want them to film the security checkpoints. In the US, you are not allowed to take pictures of or film security checkpoints run. I saw people at the Arch in St Louis who were told to put their cameras away when as they stood in line for the arch. Plus if this was censorship they would have just taken the camera's away.
It's so funny, yet at the same time you see the TRUE China. Censorship...it's like they say: the people should not be afraid of their government; the government should be afraid of their people.
Real live Censorship Robots working at day time at Tiananmen.
What were the police looking for in people's bags? I mean, that's obviously what the camera man was trying to film.
support democracy.

I would have lol'd if the guy asked him to move out of the way for his photo.
