1996 Jeep Cherokee Junkyard Lift Kit Part 2 - Coil Springs, Brakes, and Tires (XJ Ep.10)

  • After delays due to broken and stuck bolts, we are coming back to finish the suspension lift on Rob's Jeep Cherokee! The rear suspension is largely finished, but the front end needs springs and trailing arms to match. Plus, someone creates a brake fluid leak (completely unavoidable) which means that system is going to need more attention than expected. We have a lot to finish up and even more to cover after the Jeep is lifted, so let's get to work!
    Timeline of filming: February 24th, 2021 - February 28th, 2021 (Suspension/Brakes)
    April 26th, 2022 (Tire Change)
Song List (Order of First Appearance):
00:01 Come On Out - Dan Lebowitz
    03:33 The Low Seas - The 126ers
06:12 Blue Creek Trail - Dan Lebowitz
    11:28 Jeremiah's Song - Dan Lebowitz
    15:27 Who Can Say - The 126ers
    20:22 Empty Hearted Man - The 126ers

Kinda random, but during COVID when things were really awful I found your channel. I binged literally every video you had made because I really enjoyed your style of video. I know that you’ve been having a hard time, and have posted about it before, but I want you to know I really enjoy watching these videos! I hope you are able to continue making stuff at a pace that works for you and that you enjoy.

This channel is a solemn reminder that not all cool cars are rare 1 of 200 hyper fast machines. They are rust bucket jeeps you fix up and "restore" with friends, laughing all the way. A true car guys dream, working on THEIR car and enjoying it. Thanks man, and looking forward to the next one ! (I wanna see more on the Datsun! They are my fav cars, trying to find one here in MA without rust is like finding a needle in a needle stack!)

I really do love the Jeep series, a recommendation for Rob though, so long as that rust hasn't progressed *horribly* since filming, he may be able to just about get away with installing some sheet steel over the holes in the floor before he ends up going full flinstones mode when the carpet gives way, my 87 Cherokee had multiple spots in the floor where there were license plates jammed in under the carpet to keep it out of the holes in the floor pans

Should Rob ever want to reconnect his front sway bar (I highly recommend it... especially since it looks like nobody replaced the track bar)... The knuckles have steering stop bolts, which are adjustable. Just remove them, install a shim under them (I used a washer), and put them back in. Now the wheels steer slightly less and you have slightly more tire clearance.

Idk why they over complicate tires. Just put the 5 oz on it and ship it. It is what it is. I just had a tire replaced and he said the wheel is bent, I’m like idc I need To get to work and the wheel being bent doesn’t matter. And it doesn’t vibrate till like 100 mph so as long as I stick to 70 mph I’ll be fine.

    • @upscaleshack

@@upscaleshack flat spots on the tires are not compromising safety. It only affects comfort. It would be different if they were old but they were not. The fact that he drives it and he’s satisfied with it proves sometimes they just over complicate things.

    • @zacharykelley359
      @zacharykelley359 Před 24 dny

@@upscaleshack my point is, I worked in the industry for 10 years and the road force machine was hit or miss. It was terribly inaccurate. They would road force horrible but would ride just fine and no vibrations. Tires would road force terribly and they were brand new and tell me “oh just put it in the back” I’m like what about when they rotate the tires? My point is there’s no need to over complicate things. It would be different if they were going in a brand new jeep but it’s going on an old jeep the tires did just fine. It’s all on perspective and what it’s going on.
