    To access Peter Canyon Park and not have to pay a $4 or 5 Park in the residential area in Cowan Heights off of Overhill Drive you can find that if you if you follow Cowan Heights Drive off of Newport Ave it runs into Overhill Dr to follow that road down and you'll see a clearing on the opposite of the housing track where you can park, don't worry about getting lost all the streets is loop around and you'll be able to get out.
    And there's a few other point that you can park at just look on Google maps in the residential area.

    Not a bad list of trails but missed a lot.
    Off the top of my head:
    El Moro Canyon - Crystal Cove State Park
    Lagutna Coast Wilderness Area
    Aliso Woods Canyon
    James Dilley Park
    Modjeska Grade
    Harding Truck Trail - up to Main Divide
    Maple Spring - up to Main Divide
    San Joaquin Preserve
    Bommer Canyon and Turtle Ridge and Turtle Rock Trails
    Quail Hill 2 mile loop
    and many more

      I tried to type a long message but it got lost.
      Have you ever tried lets go outside . com? They put on good docent lead hikes on trails that aren't open to the public and open to the public.

      So many to choose from
      Start at the top of Ridge Park in Newport Coast. There is a park there with a restroom and water.
      Three options:
      1. Hike the outside trails of Crystal Cove State Park.
      1. Hike Bommer Canyon Ridge down Boat Road all the way to the end and get to Guna Peak to the bench and map - one of the best over looks of Laguna Beach. You can also get there by starting in Laguna Beach and going to the of Dartmoor. Go up the fireroad and make a left to the end.
      3. Hike down Bommer Ridge and go down Willow Canyon. You get to the bottom and get to the ranger station and make a left and go up Laurel and then up Lizard. Both Laurel and Lizard are good trails for OC. Lizard takes you back up to Bommer Ridge and not too far from the top of Ridge Park.

    • @jimwaxer8166
      @jimwaxer8166 Před 2 lety +1

      Another option is to Start at Nix Nature Center in Laguna Canyon and there are two popular options.
      1) Go under the tunnel that goes under Laguna Canyon and go left and go past Barbara Lake, which I think is the only natural lake in Orange County. This is James Dilley Park. You can explore the trails in there. It isn't that big of a park.
      2) Take Stage Coach to Camarillo or the better option is to go all the way to Laural Canyon and go up it and then right and up to Serrano Ridge. Take a right on Serrano Ridge and go toward Irvine. Take Sycamore Canyon back to the Nix Nature Center. It is a nice loop.

    • @jimwaxer8166
      @jimwaxer8166 Před 2 lety +1

      For a more mellow hike you can check out the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary.
      It is one of the best bird watching and bird photo places in Southern California. It isn't that big of a park with one part with lots of ponds and the other half with trees which are nice for the summer since they provide shade.
      If you want to extend the hike you can hike down the dirt side of the San Diego Creek to the Back Bay.
      The park entrance is at University and Campus.
      Huell Howser went there for one of his episodes. You may be able to find it online before you go. The park is also known as the Duck Ponds.

    Its best not to go alone at Whiting Ranch due to mountain lions. Dont even think about going alone at night. Thats just asking for trouble. Black Star canyon offers the best view of Orange County if the day is clear. Its about 15 miles both ways. Takes about 5 to 6 hours depending how far you go. And how many times you stop. Again dont go alone at night. Its supposed to be haunted. Mountain lions are up there as well. Reports of weird stuff from clans members go on at night. Not sure if that is true though.

    I loved growing up and living in south orange county; back when it was still nice. That's code for: the 1980's. Everything started to rapidly change in 1990 + mid 1990's all over OC. Some good changes and some ....not so good. Urban sprawl; etc. I would move back; only if I could completely avoid the bottle necked freeway system of chaos + torture. Arrrrg .. ! And the evil greed of the real estate market. Too bad greed has ruined a beautiful area that many transported locals still love.

    As a resident of Black Star we have been overwhelmed with visitors since videos like these have been posted. It would be considerate if posters could mention that the ppl who live here came 👉to get away from society👈 and when visiting they could remember their manors by: cleaning up your trash, don't leave bags of your dog s**t for us locals to clean up for you, not hollering at each other as the canyon echoes & SLOW THE F**K DOWN!!!! Speed limit is 25! Mountain bikers, dirt bikers, you guys just suck. So rude & arrogant. Leave your speakers in the car please, you're in nature, if you need music & can't pick up your trash please go hang out at landfills.
    Respectful hikers are always a pleasure and welcome. They seem to be the only ones who come for nature & respect the environment. Bottom line, MANORS PLEASE. Thank you.
