Wonderful how he describes Kubrick's contrast between reason/rationality & sudden eruptions of emotion, often violent, & how this was used so well in "Barry Lyndon."
I remember when the film came out & most audiences either dislike it or simply found it boring. I thought it was fabulous, also incredibly beautiful, & went back to see it again the same week. It brought the period to life more than any other film I'd seen, as if he had brought great paintings to life. And as usual with Kubrick, the music worked perfectly with the visual.
Thank you for the wonderful analysis!

Okay, the last shot of Barry Lyndon and his son on the boat. We all know how meticulous Kubrick was... how on earth did he get the dog to stat THAT STILL through the entire shot? 😮

The dog wouldn't stop moving around, so they had it snuffed and stuffed.

The dog was well trained to act in films, just as humans were.( And like some human actors, maybe the dog had help from drugs.)

Weed has often been used to settle animals down in film.
