- Harry and the Haunted House is the eighth Living Books game from 1994, and is based on the 1987 book of the same name written by Mark Schlichting and presented by Harry D. Rabbit. It is the second and final title in the series to be an original story exclusively created by Living Books- rather than an old one adapted from years later.

i love the fact that amy is not scared of the house compared to the others who get scared at every sound movement etc but than at the end she gets scared because she has to go back inside to get harrys hat by her self i started laughing and was like amy you just said the house wasn't scary and you saw it was just an old withering dirty house but i think she was scared when she was tiptoeing after her friends saying there was nothing to be scared of and her eyes looking around indicating she was scared just pretending she was not than she showed she was scared and had to go back her self this is a very funny and creepy story

Olivia Rabbit: Who’s Matchbox Twenty? I’ll tell you who Matchbox Twenty is. Matchbox Twenty is a rock music group from Orlando, Florida. They’re Harry’s favorite music group of all time.
Harry D Rabbit: Yeah, that’s right.
Jenny Fourpaws: But I never met any of the Matchbox Twenty members before.
Harry D Rabbit: Don’t worry, Jenny, Olivia and I have met all the members of Matchbox Twenty, and oh yes I know you haven’t met any of them before, but you should try them.
Olivia Rabbit: They’ll befriend you when you get to know them.
Jenny Fourpaws: You’re right. Thanks, guys.
Olivia Rabbit: Come on, Jenny, let’s go play outside until the band arrives here.

(Harry narrates the intro when he walks with Spot and is shocked and overhears one of his friends Earl and his brothers Joey “The Hare”, Daniel and Mark being scolded by their aunt for fighting in school, for slacking on their chores, for pushing her over the edge and throwing tantrums and the four Earwax boys are all grounded for two weeks for fighting in school and cannot go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party. Harry receives his presents from them and takes them with him. Stinky can’t go either because he has a plane to Africa to catch so he hands Harry his birthday presents. Amy can!)

Spot: (barking)
Harry D Rabbit: (narrating) It is two days until my birthday with Matchbox Twenty and I’m so excited. I hope my friends will come there. But things don’t go planned sometimes.
Spot: (barking)
Harry D Rabbit: Spot, what’s wrong?
Aunt Shira Earwax: (scolding her nephews) Boys, that’s it, I have had it! I’m extremely angry and disappointed in you boys!
Harry D Rabbit: (gasps)
Earl Earwax: (yelling) Aunt Shira, I don’t have an anger management problem! Maybe I’m angry!
Aunt Shira Earwax: Earl, be quiet! Be quiet!
Earl Earwax: (yelling) Maybe I’m furious at you for yelling at me and I just................
Aunt Shira Earwax: What is wrong with you?! Stop it!
Harry D Rabbit: (narrating) I’ve never heard Earl’s aunt Shira angry at him before.
Aunt Shira Earwax: (scolding her nephews) Alright, boys, enough is enough! You’re slacking on your chores! You’re fighting in school! You’re throwing tantrums! And you’re pushing me over the edge! Things are getting worse and things are out of control! You’re all grounded for two weeks!
Mark Earwax: What’s grounded for two weeks?
Aunt Shira Earwax: Except for playing outside for two weeks and for playing video games for two weeks, you can go to school, you can come home from school, you can do your homework, you can do your chores, you can go to bed and that’s final!
Joey “The Hare” Earwax: But that is no fun at............
Aunt Shira Earwax: Yes, Joey, I understand that’s no fun at all, but that’s the way it is!
Earl Earwax: So does this mean we cannot go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party?
Aunt Shira Earwax: Yep, that is exactly what it means around here!
Earl Earwax: I understand it, but we bought his presents already.
Dan Earwax: Yeah.
Aunt Shira Earwax: You are right but you boys are going to miss it! Now go to your rooms! And one more thing, Earl, before you go to your room, please give Harry his presents you guys bought already and wish him happy birthday, okay?
Earl Earwax: Okay. (He goes to Harry and give him their presents they bought him already as Joey “The Hare”, Daniel and Mark go to their rooms upset)
Harry D Rabbit: Earl, what’s the matter?
Earl Earwax: We are all grounded for two weeks and now we cannot go to your birthday party because we were fighting in school, throwing tantrums, pushing Aunt Shira over the edge and slacking on our chores.
Harry D Rabbit: Oh no!
Earl Earwax: But we bought you your presents. (He hands out the presents he and his brothers bought already to Harry)
Harry D Rabbit: Thank you!
Earl Earwax: Happy birthday, Harry! Have a good time there!
Harry D Rabbit: I will. Bye! (He heads with his presents putting them in the Rabbit family car)
Earl Earwax: See you later! (He goes to his room upset)
Harry D Rabbit: Stinky, are you coming?
Stinky Jones: I wish I could but I have a plane to catch but here’s your birthday presents from me. (He gives Harry his presents)
Harry D Rabbit: Thanks. Where are you heading to?

Harry D Rabbit got grounded once because he accidentally took his phone to school and left it on in the classroom and this means he could not play video games or play outside for a week. His teacher took Harry’s phone and put it away in the drawer of his desk because Harry accidentally left the phone on in the classroom. He is never again grounded after a week when his teacher took his phone out of the drawer of his desk and handed it to him putting it in his backpack on the end of the day on Friday. He never got grounded until Season 2 episode No Cellphones In Class (April 5, 1996) when he accidentally took his phone to school and left it on in the classroom when he called Billy Joel on it. He was grounded once and never got grounded again after a week.

(It is eight hours before the Matchbox Twenty concert at Harry’s school. Harry and Spot arrive to the park. Just then, a group of bullies arrive, Harry is captured by them and Spot is left behind. Spot runs to Harry’s sister Olivia and their friends. In the office, Harry is tied up to a pole. He wakes and notices something is wrong. When Alvin tortures him, Harry insults the bully leader as the ugliest thing that’s ever lived. The bullies try to burn him to death, but it is too late for them. Amy, Olivia, Earl, Stinky, Wendy, Rob, Kyle, Adam, Paul and Brian break in and rescue Harry and then they all fight the bullies. Harry calls the police and the bullies are arrested for kidnapping him and trying to kill him)
Harry D Rabbit: Spot, this is where we play without any trouble.
Spot: (barking)
Harry D Rabbit: I think there’s no problem at all.
Spot: (barking)
Harry D Rabbit: What’s going on? Spot, what is it?
Alvin Albino: Seize him! (His bully friends kidnap Harry and Alvin and his friends head back to his dad’s office, leaving Spot behind. This shocks Harry’s dog)
Harry D Rabbit: Let me go! Get away from me!
Spot: (barking) (He runs to Harry’s sister and their friends)

Harry D Rabbit: Hmph! I’m mad at you!
Amy Olivia Fourpaws: Not so fast, bullies! (She and the others and Harry’s dog break in and rescue Harry untying him)
Harry D Rabbit: Spot, Amy, Olivia, Earl, Stinky, Joey, Wendy, Rob, Kyle, Adam, Paul, Brian, you all rescued me? Thank you. Now we can fight bullies! (He and his sister, their dog and their friends fight bullies)

Alvin Albino: Oh no! Not again! (He and his friends are arrested by the police and taken to jail) Harry, you will pay for this!
Harry D Rabbit: We did it! The Matchbox Twenty concert is saved!

(It’s the last day of Harry’s and Amy’s third grade, Olivia’s pre-school class and Earl’s and Stinky’s fourth grade, so Harry and his younger sister and friends are doing talent show tricks: Harry is doing a show with Spot, Wendy is doing a dance show with a chinchilla, Olivia is doing her ballet dancing, Amy is dancing with an Albino yellow python Banana on her shoulder, Earl is doing magic tricks and Stinky is juggling balls)
Amy Olivia Fourpaws: Okay! (gasps) Is that a snake? (She is so excited when a zoo visitor Richard arrives with a snake in a container for her and opens it. It is an 8 foot huge but friendly yellow python named Banana. Earl freaks out at snakes.)
Richard: Yes. It is an 8 foot huge but friendly yellow python.
Earl Earwax: (screaming) Aaaaaah! Eww!
Amy Olivia Fourpaws: She’s so cute. What’s her name?
Richard: Her name is Banana.

Olivia is having carrots instead of Brussels sprouts to go with her meatloaf and potatoes on her plate while the rest of her family is having Brussels sprouts with their meatloaf and potatoes on their plates. Olivia and Harry place the tomato sauce on their meatloaf instead of gravy because they hate gravy on theirs)
Olivia Rabbit: Meatloaf, yummy with tomato sauce, yummy. Mashed potatoes, yummy. Carrots, yummy. (She puts the tomato sauce on her meatloaf and passes it to Harry)

None of the Matchbox Twenty members have met Michelle Branch yet except Rob Thomas who met and befriended her ever since she was a little girl. But I’m sure they will. Harry D Rabbit loves Matchbox Twenty especially Rob Thomas. Amy Olivia Fourpaws loves Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas too. Earl Earwax and Stinky Jones have not seen or heard of Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas before but they met Kyle Cook and Paul Doucette. One time when Earl and Stinky first met Rob Thomas, they got angry at Rob Thomas and pushed him down and over the edge causing him to lose his cool yelling at the boys to take responsibility for their own actions. Harry tried to warn them that was not very nice at all and Amy tried to tell them that he’s just cute, gentle and friendly, but Earl and Stinky didn’t believe them and Harry started an argument with them causing Amy to yell at them to stop and the argument stopped. She explained to the boys that she can understand their frustration and why they were arguing about Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas. Harry and Amy walked to an upset Rob Thomas and explained to him that he tried to be nice to Earl and Stinky but Earl and Stinky made him angry and pushed him down and over the edge. Rob Thomas calmed down and thanked them. Earl and Stinky ran over to Rob Thomas and were sorry for being mean to him for pushing him down and over the edge and Rob was sorry too for being angry at them and they forgive each other.
Rob Thomas is a great musician.
TSM Channel, My friend Danny Bonomo from my baseball game loves Matchbox Twenty especially Rob Thomas. He met the singer ever since he was a baby.

In the beginning of Harry’s Matchbox Twenty Birthday, Harry D Rabbit goes outside the door with Spot and is shocked. He overhears one of his friends Earl Earwax when Earl pushes his Aunt Shira over the edge and is grounded for two weeks along with his brothers Joey “The Hare”, Dan and Mark by her for fighting in school (even when Earl and Joey “The Hare” are against bullies and they knock them down while Dan throws balls and paper airplanes at his teachers and principals knocking them down and Mark pushes TJ “The Tortoise”’s younger sister Sammy down the stairs), slacking on their chores, throwing temper tantrums when she tells them no and pushing her over the edge with no playing outside or video games for two weeks as well and cannot go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party even though they bought Harry’s birthday presents already so she tells her orphaned nephews that they are going to miss it, hand Harry his birthday presents they bought already and wish him happy birthday and go to their rooms and before that, Earl hands Harry his birthday presents he and his brothers bought already and after wishing Harry happy birthday, he goes to his room upset, the other of Harry’s friends Stanley Andrew “Stinky” Jones is going to Kenya 🇰🇪, Africa and cannot go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party either so he hands Harry his birthday presents he bought already and one of Harry’s friends Amy Olivia Fourpaws is going to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party with him, his dog Spot, his sister Olivia, his parents Ethan and Kathy and the rest of his siblings Sam, Phoebe, Danny and baby Mia in Orlando, Florida for vacation as well after she hugs her dad, grandma, sisters Molly and Jenny and brother Michael goodbye. Amy’s dad, her grandma, her sisters and her brother are all emotional because she did something really important to her like standing up against bullies and fighting bullies and no one else at school.

She didn’t fight anybody at school except bullies due to being against them, she didn’t slack on her chores most of the time, she didn’t throw temper tantrums and she didn’t push anybody over the edge so she could go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party in Orlando, Florida and her dad, her sisters and her brother are all so emotional but also happy and proud of her because she did something really important to her for being against all bullies. Earl is usually a good boy but he’s grounded for two weeks along with his brothers Joey “The Hare”, Daniel and Mark and he and his brothers could not go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party in Orlando even though they already bought Harry’s presents but he handed Harry his birthday presents and wished Harry happy birthday and went to his room upset after that. He fought someone at school, he slacked on his chores, he threw temper tantrums when being told no and he pushed his aunt over the edge which made her extremely angry and disappointed in the boys due to anger management problems. Stinky could not go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party in Orlando either because he didn’t have time but he gave Harry his birthday presents too and wished Harry happy birthday too. He was on a trip to Africa with his dad for four weeks.
TSM Channel, Instead of playing outside, skateboarding and playing video games for two weeks, the only things Earl Earwax and his brothers Joey (who is also banned from driving for two weeks), Dan and Mark can do when grounded are to go to school, come home from school, do their homework, do their chores and go to bed because they got in trouble for pushing their aunt over the edge, throwing tantrums, fighting in school and slacking on their chores and they cannot go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party in Orlando, Florida even though they already bought Harry’s presents.

Harry, Amy, Olivia and Spot are upset about that and so are the rest of Harry’s family, but Rob Thomas convinces them that he and his bandmates will see them again soon because they are their friends too. Harry hands out goodie bags for their Matchbox Twenty friends and the Matchbox Twenty members are happy with theirs. He then asks Rob if he and the other Matchbox Twenty members can see them again next time when Earl is ungrounded and Stinky is back from his trip. Rob replies yes and everybody cheers. After saying goodbye to their Matchbox Twenty friends and promising to see them soon, the Rabbit family, Amy and Spot think of them. Harry narrates the closing line as he, his family, Amy and Spot head head back to the hotel with their goodie bags and extra goodie bags for Earl and Stinky and are ready to go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday dinner)

(After the song “Bent”, Billy Joel and Tracy arrive to the Matchbox Twenty concert stage for the rest of Harry’s birthday party from the audience bringing Harry’s birthday presents and hands them to him. Harry, Amy and Olivia introduce him to their Matchbox Twenty friends and Billy greets them and joins them and they become friends. Olivia introduces her friend Tracy to their Matchbox Twenty friends. Billy plays the piano while Rob sings the lead vocals, Kyle and Adam play guitars while singing backing vocals, Tracy plays the triangle, Brian plays the bass, Paul plays drums and Harry, Amy, Spot and Olivia join them too. Everyone eats lunch at Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party too. After lunch, Harry opens the presents and blows out the candles on his cake. Everyone gets a slice of his cake. Spot wants to have one too but Harry tells him that chocolate is not good for dogs but vanilla is good for dogs and feeds his vanilla frosting and Spot eats the vanilla frosting)

Harry D Rabbit: Earl is grounded for two weeks along with his brothers Joey, Dan and Mark for fighting in school, slacking on their chores, throwing tantrums and pushing their aunt over the edge. I got grounded once because I accidentally took my phone to school and left it on in the classroom and my classmates gasped and my teacher got angry and was yelling at me and took it and put it in his desk for a a week and then Mom and Dad scolded me and Sam and we both got grounded. I got grounded for a week with no video games and no playing outside and Sam got grounded for two weeks for fighting in school with no phone, TV or talking to his friends for two weeks. At the end of Friday, my teacher gave me back my phone and I promise to turn it off next time when I got back in class and a week later I got ungrounded and promised not to leave my phone on in class again. Rob, have you been grounded?
Rob Thomas: Back when I was in high school and I smoked a cigarette on my way home from school. I started smoking when I was underaged and my sister Melissa was shocked and then my mom Marnie caught me when I got home and said “Oh no! I’m in big trouble”.
Olivia Rabbit: What happened?
Rob Thomas: She told me that smoking underaged is illegal and I asked her “Am I going to be grounded?”. She replied “Of course. You did something you weren’t supposed to do. You’re grounded for a month and this means. No concerts for a month. Now go to your room please” and I replied “You’re right, Mom, I’m sorry and I won’t do it again. I promise” and then I walked to my room.
Amy Olivia Fourpaws: Then what did you do?
Rob Thomas: I got ungrounded one month later and my mom and sister told me not to smoke cigarettes underaged again and I promised not to smoke anymore underaged.
Harry D Rabbit: Good.
Spot: (barking)
Harry D Rabbit: No, Spot, dogs are not allowed in fancy restaurants but we will give you something when we get back, okay?

2. Harry and his family, Spot and Amy head off the airport, brought their belongings and Harry’s presents they packed and they go to the plane.
3. Harry watches a Matchbox Twenty video “Bent” when the plane takes off and lands in Orlando, Florida.
4. The Rabbit family, Amy and Spot head to the market.
5. Harry, Amy, Olivia and Spot meet Rob Thomas and the other Matchbox Twenty members who are wrapping Harry’s presents for Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party.
6. When everyone gets to the hotel, Harry and his family and Amy head to the pool and eat lunch at a fast food restaurant.
7. After lunch, everybody heads back to the hotel. Harry watches a Matchbox Twenty video “Bent”.
8. Everyone hears a noise at the door and Harry opens it and it is Matchbox Twenty. Harry later meets Billy Joel and promises him that he will meet Matchbox Twenty.

15. Everybody heads back to the hotel room. Olivia gets bad news from her best friend Jenny (Amy’s younger sister) that her great grandma Alice has died. Everyone gets ready for dinner and Harry catches a vase.
16. Everyone eats spaghetti for dinner at the Italian restaurant.
17. After dinner, everybody heads outside and Harry, Amy, Olivia and Spot join in as Matchbox Twenty performs “Lonely Weekend”.
18. Everybody heads back to the hotel room and they see a Matchbox Twenty concert video.
19. The next day is Harry’s 9th birthday and he opens his presents from his family and friends and more presents from the concert.
20. Harry is announcing his 9th birthday party concert hosting it. Matchbox Twenty, Amy and Olivia perform “Happy Birthday”. Everyone performs “If You’re Gone” and “Bent”.
21. Billy Joel and Chucky’s younger sister Tracy arrive and they meet Matchbox Twenty the first time. Everyone performs “Push” and the rest of Harry’s family arrives and joins them for lunch, cake and presents.

I know there's no such thing as a TV show/cartoon based on Harry and the Haunted House and it's fan made, and I had to fix the misinformation on Living Books Wiki which some arbitrary users put in. But that's okay. It is "just our own imaginations", like Amy Fourpaws (Harry D Rabbit's best friend) said.
I could've imagined it being just like Arthur (1996-present), Berenstain Bears (both the 1985 and 2003), and the Richard Scarry, since these kid cartoons all have funny animals.

TSM Channel, Amy is allowed to go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party because she did something really brave and really important to her like standing up against bullies and fighting them and nobody else at school.
TSM Channel, Right after Teletubbies
TSM Channel, Earl is grounded for two weeks for fighting in school, slacking on his chores, throwing tantrums and pushing his aunt over the edge along with his brothers Joey “The Hare”, Daniel and Mark. Aunt Shira is angry and disappointed in them. This means no video games, no playing outside, no skateboarding and no driving in the car for Joey and the only things they’re allowed to do when they’re grounded are to go to school, to come home from school, to do their homework, to do their chores, to go to bed and that’s final. This causes Joey to complain “but that’s no fun at all” which aunt Shira agrees with him that is no fun at all but that’s the way it is to her. This also means the Earwax boys cannot go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party even though they bought Harry’s birthday presents already. The Earwax boys are told that they are going to miss it and to go to their rooms. But there is one more thing. Earl hands Harry his birthday presents he and his brothers bought already and wishes him happy birthday. He then goes to his room upset after wishing Harry happy birthday.
TSM Channel, Stinky cannot go to Harry’s Matchbox Twenty birthday party either due to his trip to Africa for four weeks. But he hands Harry his birthday presents he bought already and wishes him happy birthday. Stinky Jones: It is great. We saw African animals on our safari trip yesterday and today we played an African drum. My mom Cathy and grandpa James Earl are taking care of my birds Paul and Priscilla and lizard Jamie while I’m away.

Stinky Jones: Me too, Harry, but I cannot go to your Matchbox Twenty birthday party either. But I bought your presents already too.
Harry D Rabbit: Yeah, that’s right, we have them in our hotel room.
Paul Doucette: Stinky, we’re sorry you’re not coming either.
Stinky Jones: That’s okay, Paul, we’re having fun in Africa and sending our friends African postcards.
Stinky’s dad: Stinky, sweetie, it’s time for dinner on our African cookout! We’re having African beef and veggie stew, your favorite!
Stinky Jones: Okay, Dad, I’m coming! Harry, I have to go now too because dinner’s ready and we’re having African beef and veggie stew because I love beef and veggie stew and I hate spaghetti because it upsets my stomach.
Harry D Rabbit: So beef and veggie stew does not upset your stomach.
Stinky Jones: Yes, that’s right. I’m sending you a birthday postcard from me and I hope you have a good time too, okay?
Harry D Rabbit: Okay.
Stinky Jones: Bye, Harry! Happy birthday!
Harry D Rabbit: Thanks, Stinky. Bye! (He hangs up the phone)

TSM Channel, Earl Earwax and his family cannot eat any beef or meat products because they’re all vegetarians and Stinky Jones cannot eat spaghetti because his tummy will hurt so he prefers African beef and veggie stew instead.

Even Earl and Stinky, who weren’t coming there, still wished me happy birthday even though Earl and his brothers got grounded for two weeks and Stinky was in Africa for four weeks. And guess what? I’m 9 years old today and we had fun with Matchbox Twenty. Do you like Matchbox Twenty? I love Matchbox Twenty especially Rob Thomas.

Spot (Harry D. Rabbit’s pet dog) looks a lot like Snowy from The Adventures of Tintin and Snoopy from Charlie Brown in the NTSC version of the Harry and the Haunted House PC game. I hope Mark Schlichting didn't get accused of designing Spot (Harry D Rabbit's pet dog) to resemble Snowy (from Herge's Adventures of Tintin)/Snoopy (from Charlie Brown) very closely in the NTSC version of the PC game Harry and the Haunted House??? But Spot became light brown in the PAL version of this game.
That was a common way to draw a dog back in the day.
I think they are ok with the similar design between characters.
So, that has nothing to do with Spot the dog from the other books. Yes, there are some characters in different works with the same name like Dora from Dora the Explorer and Dora Winifred Read (from Arthur).
