Yeah, it really sucks that it barely has any of the charm from the originals.
Honestly I’m just glad they’re able to still make a sequel to the originals. It means we might actually get a non-soulless one in the future instead of a definite no people were thinking of these past years.

It's actually kind of incredible how well this game, on its own, without even needing to compare it to the other games in the series, showcases that synthesized voices are a downgrade from no voice acting whatsoever. And when you DO make the comparison to the other games, you see how deeply attached people can be to well-written characters without needing voice acting.
I've heard much, much better AI voices than this -years- ago. they have mechanisms to make them more expressive, you can make them raise and lower their pitch more naturally, you can even get them to mimic your own intonation by recording a scratch track for it.
@@KairuHakubi first I thought it was one of the accessibility options that they auto turn on before they take you to the settings page, but then came Daniel to prove that wrong.
It is clearly an old fashioned speech to text program though.
Sounds like they copied Subnautica which did almost everything in this game better

Having a nice voice could carry this game so much since it's the only human interaction you have..
But they replaced the only human interaction in this game with an effin AI
such a disappointment. I hope they go the alpha dream route.

The ONLY way this game could redeem having an AI assistant as your diving companion is if she turns out to be the final boss and you have to dramatically kill her to save the ocean's ecosystems

Clever way to sneak in an AI voice instead of hiring an actual voice actor by making the character itself an AI.

@@klebermarchand Yes. You occasionally hear from "Headquarters" but all of their messages are just delivered through Sera. There are no other characters.
Feels like a lot of the writing was also generated...
I hate to say this entry doesn’t hold a candle to the older Endless Ocean games, but I’m here to see the grumps play it anyway

As a diehard fan of Endless Ocean, I'm glad that you decided to play this. It was a fun time. However, I know what this game has to offer and in that regard, please, please, PLEASE go back to Blue World. It has so much more potential.
Or Endless Ocean 2: the story gets better the further you move into the depths, and would fit 1-2 more episodes

In the original Endless Ocean video, Arin said "Is there anything to do besides fondle fish!?" in that game there was a lot more to do. In Luminous...yeah, there's not a whole lot to do besides fondle fish.
You don't even get to touch them unless you headbutt them or something. You just kinda scan them ;3;
I feel like this is a wonderful time to plead that you continue the endless ocean blue world play through if you're able. Theres still so much to that game you haven't discovered yet and this one depresses me with how much game play and story they stripped from it
Endless Ocean had some of the funniest GG bits (9 Ball Island, Throw the tenors overboard, "slap it to enrage the mother", the shark agitator,etc) happy to see them doing another one of them

I have real meaningful childhood memories with Endless Ocean 1 and 2 and family, and watching this sequel is a little heartbreaking.
I know the feeling. It's so sad.
i can't believe i'm literally halfway through the video and they've only had like 30 seconds total of actually being able to control the character. this game needed this dialogue to be playing while you are physically moving from one place to the next or something to at least make you feel like you are progressing, wtf is this shit lol
The vast majority of the gameplay in Luminous is in the actual dive modes, which they didn't do. The story mode is for the most part...just a story. One that you actually can't fully unlock until you do enough stuff in the other modes. It...wasn't the best system, honestly.

Dan being a whale shark makes sense. However, Arin being a feral orca who holds grudges is just perfect.
Weirdly enough, I just read an article earlier today about orcas attacking a yacht in the Strait of Gibraltar.
I thought the same whenever Dan said his fav dinos are the plant eaters. It made me think "I bet arin likes the carnivores"
I read that as "fecal orca" which would also suit Arin.

I rewatched Endless Ocean 2 this morning, and had the thought, “Dan’s said that they want to eventually try to finish all games that they’ve started, and I can’t wait for them to finish Endless Ocean.” and here we are with a new, albeit different game of, Endless Ocean.

It is so depressing to rewatch Blue World and that the last episode ends with them saying they'll play more and how much Danny adores the game.

It's so weird to remember that the first Endless Ocean video they did was back in Danny's first year on the channel. I remember in Blue World he even said it was one of his favorite videos that they recorded. I wonder if that's still true 10 years later.

How on earth did the swimming look/feel smoother when I was playing the original games..? Endless Ocean 2 was my absolute favorite game- I nearly 100 percented that shit when I was in middle school. This feels so.. soulless. Empty.
Like every remake and spin off these days, soulless empty lonely and lacking any story telling grace that used to exist just 10 years ago.

You know... staying upright with your arms akimbo like Daniel keeps doing is kinda hard to do while maintaining buoyancy. This guy goes hard for the underwater power stances.

KEEP PLAYING. Genuinely! There's a really cool section of the sea that has prehistoric fish! I feel like Dan would absolutely love it! Also, shared dives are more fun because you get more tags and have other people help you complete objectives. I really loved the original games and I hope they play for just a few more episodes at least. Also Dan calling Prayer by Hayley Westenra the "theme song" of the last game is golden lol

I was so excited when this remake was announced for the Grumps to play. Still awesome that they played it but wow this game is soulless. A shell of the originals. Theyve taken out everything that made the game fun. Its like they sacrificed everything just to focus on good graphics.

A buddy of mine said he just turned off Sera's voice and that made it more enjoyable because at least then you can pretend Sera is like Katherine or Jean-Luc and is an actual person communicating with you.

It was definitely new zealand by the way grumps. Hailey is a new Zealander so it would make sense to see posters there. It’s also why some of her songs are in Māori, a beautiful language that the natives of new Zealand speak. On a different note though I am happy yall are playing this, I love endless ocean, though this one is quite different. Hope yall enjoy
Oh god this is bringing back memories from my childhood. It doesn't feel right to say that, I see these two guys as so much more grown than I am and yet here we all are, laughing about the jokes they made like ten or so years ago.

I hope after this they continue Endless Ocean 2... just hearing them speak in Jean-Eric's voice again made me happier than all of Endless Ocean Luminous.
