It still takes effort (and luck) to find the UML and rarer UML fish. They just made the legendary fish from the first two rare category instead because of the nature of the setting.

The devs clearly didnt watch game grumps play endless ocean 2, because they would have brought back jean eric louvie and peewee deedee for another batch of hilarious. I give this a 7 episode season and they move on
Edit: the reason i say 7 is because normally when they do recording sessions, its a 7 episode stretch of videos unless the game is shorter than 7 episodes. i understand like Endless ocean 2 came out in.... 2009!? geez.... but they still could have watched their videos or their kids brought it to the games devs and said "make jean eric come back!" regardless the entire thing behind 7 episodes is because thats their normal recording session numbers.

Luminous definitely has its own charms and does some neat stuff. It's a great game to just play with something on in the background. But yeah, it just lacks so much of what made the earlier games great and definitely doesn't lend itself as well to a Game Grumps style Let's Play

Unreal Tournament 3 attempted to provide an in-universe explanation for why our teams of re-spawning super soldiers were playing capture the flag. In my experience that was the first... but damn if this isn't really close
reminds me of Body Harvest, which gave scifi explanations for your infinite handgun ammo (your backpack collects dust from the air and compresses it into bullets for you) or even pausing while you receive messages from HQ (your suit injects you with a drug that speeds up reaction time)

Actually, it was scary too. My heart dropped 3-4 times. I can't believe Dan never felt uncomfortable. Swimming in the dark cave or when it was nothing but the Endless Ocean™ and a fish slowly appeared.
Best part about this game is that it makes Endless Ocean 2 look better. This series needs more soda and OJ.

...but then again, all they had to do was make an Endless Ocean game that was like the OTHER Endless Ocean games, yet apparently THAT was too hard, as well...no wonder Matthias is never coming back-- he's dead, just like this series of games, thanks for reminding me...

@@KairuHakubi sometimes, Demand outweighs Supply when it comes to quality, and Deadlines only push subpar products out faster...the same thing happens everywhere-- TV shows stop being funny, music loses that impact, movies get bland and repetitive...
...but too many people want the Source (show/band/etc) to catch that 'lightning in a bottle' that a First Entry captured, that no source can resist trying to...and sometimes, youll have a band that merely 'refines' their sound with each album, or a tv show will hire a new writer after a 7th-season slump, and some New Life will catch the breeze for its fleeting moment...but eventually, the well of ideas runs dry, and in the end, the Expectation weve collectively set for ourselves is just too high to ever be met...

Assigning 500 scans as a chore for players to do in order to get to *CHAPTER FREAKIN 2* is ridiculous. The Devs had to have known they failed at that moment
@@mugiwara7116 In order to complete the story you need to scan over 10,000 fish and complete all 99 mysteries on the board. The story in this game is much more of an afterthought and it's treated as a little side reward for doing stuff in the main game rather than the story BEING the main game.
That's why many of the story chapters have very little, if any actual gameplay in them.

Yeah, I couldn't help but notice that every story episode was just: Hype up thing. Swim forward 30m. Scan the thing they were hyping up.
Like, my expectations were already low due to the shoelace budget of the characters and narrative, but this was like *proper* disappointing.

Nope, each fish counts individually. And it doesn't matter if it's a species that you've scanned previously.

It's so weird to me that it doesn't scale at all. Like a different game would have you start by scanning five, then ten, then twenty, then fifty and so on the further you get into the game so you're introduced to the mechanics and get invested in the plot simultaneously (or, y'know just have the story unlock when you're done with the previous part). But for some reason the devs go all in on 500, which as the episode demonstrates is like an hour plus level of effort for a 5 minutes of cutscene.
Sunfish are surprisingly massive.
Photos don't do them justice (and early Animal Crossing games made them look smaller than some actual small fish).
They might mean freshwater sunfish, which are small

ALRIGHT HERE GOES IT! Ive played through most of the game so far and here's my review and tips. I feel like I'm extra qualified since I've played both previous endless ocean games which literally inspired me to become a marine biologist which I am in my last year of schooling for. If I'm being honest, this game is not great...its boring without much plot. I feel like I'm one of the very few people who find it fun but thats purely because I enjoy seeing how they render the fish, and because I try to identify the fish myself. This game is all over the place but not in the fun goofy way of they other 2. They have freshwater fish in the ocean? Extinct fish and literal dinosaurs just roaming around, I've found coelacanth just chilling in shallow reefs. This game tries to be educational often presents weird plot as fact. They try to make it "realistic" by coming up with b.s scientific SOUNDING explanations. I could go on and on. This game is great to just chill out to, I like playing it at night while watching other stuff or listening to music. Its definitely not worth $50. Also story mode is not fun...
Actual tips and tricks!
If you need to scan more fish to unlock chapters, go on a solo dive and try to find a reef, go to the corals because they will have a bunch of little schools. Also finding large schools which tend to hang out closer to the surface is good too. Ignore the weird sidequests like the anomalies or disk puzzles, they're annoying and half the time don't work. Also when scanning, hold down the button and look all around, that scans more. You can also hit the b button before the meter fills up so you dont have to go into the individual fish camera. You also don't have to go down the list of each individual fish to make it count towards the fish goal. Hopefully this is helpful? Overall, if you are really wanting a chill somewhat educational experience you may enjoy the game, specifically the solo dives. Take all the educational content with a grain of salt tho because they do not make it clear if the fish is actually freshwater, extinct, or straight up a mythical creature. I will say the designers and artists outdid themselves the game is absolutely beautiful! Its very clearly a Japanese developed game as a lot of the fish are found there along with the salvage. I enjoyed that part since I’m Japanese and grew up seeing a lot of these fish.
If you are a Japanese marine biologist who just wants to chill, you'll probably enjoy the game? But I wouldn't really recommend it. Just replay the originals. Its sucks its so bland. I was literally counting down the days until its release and it is a definite disappointment. Thanks to anyone who made it to the end through all my yapping! Love you
Bad news about ignoring anomalies and disk puzzles: You need to do every single one of those to unlock the final chapter.

The AI saying 'Daniel must be feeling competitive' gave me a horrible flash forward to a dystopian future where you'll have an AI assistant that reads other peoples' facial expressions and body language to tell you how they feel.

Seeing that ghostshark was nice. A pretty new fish discovery, I think, and it was cool to see. I know this game is... rather empty, compared to the others, but at least the sealife is pretty great.

@@Levyathyn I looked it up and according to wikipedia, they're listed as LC (Least Concern) so not rare by any means, they're farmed commercially, and were discovered in 2018. This is wild to me.

Incredible work from the devs to take such a rich source material and make a game that is a completely horrible soulless grind. It's borderline impressive how bad they've made this.

It may not be the most entertaining game to work with, compared to the previous Endless Ocean, but it's kinda great that the NPC companion is named friggin DANIEL
This game feels like an AI looked at the other games in the series and spat this out.
Also,one review says "...instead of feeling like a big ecosystem, it feels like a big underwater bus stop." Nothing to do with it being AI but it made me laugh.

I remember playing Blue World as a kid and the shark parts always scared me but then I watched you guys play it and it was absolutely hilarious, which led to me getting over myself and finishing the game (which had an awesome ending btw)
As someone who loves humongous gentle animals, someone needs to show Dan just how big sunfish get, if that one caught him off guard. The one in the game looked half the size of the ones I've seen pictures of.
