Oscar was the only one in the brazilian national team that managed to score v Germany during WC 2014 in the 7-1 loss. He didn't go for having a career in football, he went to support his family as they came from very poor conditions, and he's not the first one to do so. I'd do the same tbf.

He was on massive money already and was already a millionaire many times over by the time he went to China..... He was earning £150k a week at Chelsea.
I'm not blaming the guy for deciding the massive wages in China were more important to him than his legacy and prestige as a player... He gave that and his international career up for more money than anyone could ever spend. Lets not pretend this was some poor kid from the slums going to China just so he could feed his family and give them a comfortable life. Him and his family were already set up for life.

I read an article about Oscar's interview about this. The family here is not just like "mom and sisters" but he also provides around 100 people of his big family, like cousins, nephews/nieces, and probably his wife's big family too. Giving them the best life, education, and small business to escape the poverty. Can't really blame him about his move to china.

You need to rewatch the video. He very much felt it was the end of his career. Frequent injuries, getting dropped from the team etc. he decided to cash out while he still had a chance. People forget that footballers have a very small window to make these decisions for their future and family. The average career lasts only 8 years.

I understand that the money was too tempting. But it is just a shame we never saw Oscar play in one of the top 5 leagues at his peak. He could probably have been one of the star players of any of the top clubs in those leagues.

I remember one thing about him, when Brazil got absolutely crushed by our World Cup Winning Team in 2014, he refused to give up and even scored a goal in the now legendary 7-1 semi final. I always respected that about him. Now that i know he only did go to China to be able to provide for his Family, i respect him even more. He has his priorities set right.
