- I do like a vindaloo, and normally use chicken or king prawns, however today I thought I'd see if using a can of minced beef and onions would work..

Really enjoying these recent videos of yours, these store cupboard inventive out there recipes. They give me all sorts of ideas to try out. With that mince beef curry and crumpet dish you really are turning into a gastronaut par excellence papp. A reference there for people of a certain age.
Haven't heard the term gastronaut for yonks Dean, glad you're enjoying these videos, I'll try and think of more..
Nice recipe 👍 definitely looked lot better with that amount of turmeric 😉 If you add rice into it at the beginning and have it slightly thinner can imagine would make a great homemade mulligatawny style soup too 🌶️ 🥣
Indeed you were right abot the turmeric mate nice one, and I think the rice idea is excellent :)
I bet it smelt lovely in that kitchen with the garlic and butter cooking ! 😋
Oh yes Mike, and all down the hallway ;)
You can get huge square crumpets in Aldi - put them in a toaster a few times to get them nicely golden and crunchy
I was wondering if there were square ones out there, thanks for the heads up
I used the square crumpets today when making the Crumpet Burger that Papp showed yesterday.
Looks really good, think i would prefer it wiith the cream in, nice colour and consistency. Curry and crumpets- Sounds good to me 👍
If one can enjoy a nice bit of crumpet and a curry in the same evening then happy days Lynne!
One of your best vids yet, Papparoni. Loving the creativity 👍
Many thanks George, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Hi Papp. Another great apocalypse meal (vindaloo) using canned minced beef.
I know you don't rate your own cooking, so I'll give you 4.5/5.0 ⭐ for ingenuity and creativity.
Another ⭐ for use of the crumpet as an alternative to roti and naan bread and the additional cream 👍
I was thinking cream cheese would be nice too.
You certainly got your money's worth with this one and a mopped clean bowl to prove it.
I'll be adopting the naan crumpet (GF) idea from now on as I cannot find GF naan for hide or hair of me!
If you're going to use this minced beef again, maybe try it as a Chilli Con Carne 🤔
Great value Papp.
Cheers 🤤😀
Cream cheese sounds good, a deffo try for a future curry. The chilli con carne is a must do idea, and regarding the GF naan, best of luck, I can only find GF pitta :)
@@Papparoni Yep found the GF pita too. $6.00 for 3 pieces 😕. So I keep a watchful eye for YSA.
The crumpets are $6.00 for 4 pieces too.
My crumpet burger main expense was the crumpets.
I hope you try the 🌶️CCC.
Jeez, you're like the mad professor of cooking. I half expected your house to blow up. Rock on mate. Laugh, I nearly cried.
I've never been accused of being sane Patrick.
Totally different to how I'd prepare it. In a good way. I am going to attempt it as the garlic base instead of the onion base is a revelation. Thanks for sharing Papa
You're welcome DDB, always makes me feel good having that amount of garlic :)
I'm not surprised this was so good Pap with the amount of ingredients you added to it!
Thank you Mr Atkinson, it's the garlic that does it for me!
The only volume of garlic for me is by the truckload. This adapted quite beautifully! Looked like it mopped up even better! Nicely done Pap!
Cheers Rhubarb, surprised the heck out of me!
That looked absolutely amazing and I knew that it would be good watching mixing those spices. I bet your cat won't come near you later on, once the chair starts rattling 🤣
Hahaaa! The cat is quite happy where she is, asleep in her bed with a water bottle :)
A gourmet meal right out of the can man I love it!!!
Your influence is rubbing off!
Wow Pepperoni yummo!! This was delicious. I love the video. All your videos I love. Just catching up today. Have my sister all set up in her new place now just getting back to life. Hope you had a nice Easter. 🤗
Great to see you here again Jerri, and I'm so happy your sister is settled now :)
i have done this with tined chicken it was nice so perhaps i may do this one with a jacket tatty
It'd be great on a tatty
Amazing what you can do with canned stuff. Most of them do need pimping up. Great job Pappa 👍 Looks really tasty. I buy tandoori masala all the time. I make kebabs and stuff with it. Nice one Pappa 👍
Cheers Emily. Laaring tandoori masala into kebabs sounds cool, I'll give it a go, nice one :)
That looks bangin mate! I'm definitely going try this
Fill your boots chaps :)
Wow looked scrumptious Paps will definitely give that a whirl💪
Fill your boots mate!
A nice little invention papps I always have a tin or two of these in my cupboard add a tin of carrots and peas with some oven chips job done with some bread and butter but never thought it would make a curry 👍👍🥘🥘
Nor did I mate! :)
Jersey ice cream is amazing. I have family on Jersey and the butter, milk and ice cream is the best. The cows wear jackets in winter 😁
And so they should squeaky, wish I lived there!
@@Papparoni It's a very expensive place to live but very nice away from holiday season
@@66squeaky If only squeaky :)
Did you buy that tin 20 years ago? Thats around £2.40 a tin now. During early lockdown it was £2 per tin. Tesco version is just as good and that is now around £2 a tin. £1.60 at the start of lockdown. Also a small tip you may consider. Always pour your spices onto a spoon away from the heat. It stops your jar getting condensation inside thus making the powders clag up and go hard. Learnt that the hard way. lol. Keep up the videos mate. Always watch without fail.
I bought loads of stuff during mockdown mate, was lovely and quiet out there! Thanks for the anti-clag tip :)
Great Tip 👍. I use those itty bitty spice bowls.
mmmm that garlic! I bet those fumes are rich as all those spices are frying down. Ah that lemon juice had some really lush squirt ACTION. / Overall that looked really nice indeed and I think it did the trick / In actual fact I do a variation of something similar where I use real beef mince , and onions and mushrooms. A bit like cooking a chilli but with curry seasoning. I think that this is then quite a cheap meal as you can buy 400g of fresh mince and only need 200g per meal if you bulk with the onions and mushrooms. Mark.
It is superb with fresh mince I agree Mark, the mushrooms sound great too, and will be implemented next time I do this ;)
I like the general idea
Many thanks John
Yummmm just yummmm now you made me want a curry 10/10 paps thanks for sharing 😊
Good to hear M. I seem to be necking at least three curries a week at the moment, and feel great for it :)
Single cream actually calms down the heat as well
Quite so Rabbit, it did take it down a notch
great!, thanks, i was wondering what to eat with that champ mash and sausages
Holy Garlic! Looked great. I need to get more inventive with my cooking lol. Nice job papp. Edit. Yes that milk is fantastic, it's what I use for making cheese.
Cheers jay, I have to admit I do like my garlic, and nice one making your own cheese :)
That looks really good! Id have crushed all that garlic though, cant stand pieces of garlic. Just needed a naan bread to mop it up! 😎
You wouldn't like my garlic curry then WW, where I use whole cloves!
well done Pap looks really tasty
Cheers Colin
Another brilliant idea 😮…. Makes you think how you can pimp up other tinned products, it’s got me thinking 🤔
That's the spirit chap, see what you can come up with..
Well that was different!
I sometimes put a small tin of Full Moon coconut milk and a couple of spoons of (cheapest, plain) yoghurt in my curry. Lemon at the end really lifts it.
62 minutes of simmering, and no music 😔 When you said chapati a song came to mind...
I think that milk might be nice for a good hot chocolate.
I've used plain yogurt and I agree it works really well. Sorry no music, sometimes it just won't come out!
Good morning, belated Happy Easter. Think I will be going out for a curry this week.
Thanks Ms Ms, you've got me going now, haven't had a sit down curry since the lunch buffet one.
@@Papparoni I want to make one but I haven't the energy. So hopefully before the weekend I will purchase one, I will let you know what I have.
@@LivingInTheShade You'll only make me jealous - go for it..
There will be no vampires visiting you tonight !
Or, anything else? The devil takes the highroad.
Mike, I am a vampire, check the teeth ;)
Vindaloo soup, be ok with crusty bread or over cheese chips 😊
Like both of those suggestions Matthew :)
This is fantastic. I'm going to make this sauce with chicken tomorrow night. Xxx
Try using the precooked chicken Sarah, works a treat ;)
G'day. How much does that tinned mince cost in the UK? Here in Australia its around 3.60 pounds a can. Tom Piper is the closest we have. at at half the price. I do like the idea of this meal with winder on the way.
This one cost me £1 in a cheapo store Tim. There are many varieties, all the way up to £4.50
A couple of cubed spuds simmered during the reduction would of gone well in that Papp.
Oh heeell yeah Kev, a must for next time nice one.
@@Papparoni 👍🏻
If I was cooking my own vindaloo, I’d put a couple of rolls of toilet roll in the fridge (just in case I over do the chilli)
Always good to be prepared Duke!
Gives me ideas make pies and brides and use as filling
Mince vindaloo pie, sounds tremendous Lee
Just a tip - never pour your spices in from their container over the pot. You let loads of moisture/steam into the jar and the spices will clump over time and it encourages mould growth. Better to measure them out beforehand and add from a plate/spoon.
Thanks for the tip acidpunker, appreciate it.
That Vindaloo looks better than some I've had at an actual Indian restaurant. I attempted my first Chicken Tikka Masala over the weekend and it came out pretty good I thought. I was even able to find naan bread at my local Walmart to go with it, no other place around here has it. Nice looking Vindaloo there. How was the heat level?
Good stuff making your own curry Gary. The heat was just about in the vindaloo park, more chilli next time, try and get it nearer to a tindaloo..
Next time id probably sdd some garlic to this
Hahaaa, might work wonders Andy
looks ok 👍
Thank you Malcolm :)
Crumpets and curry 🤯
I couldn't help myself!
Just add less water mate you can make that in 15 mins the mince cooked already innit just needs walming through I reckon.. just a thought,i tell you what would be nice some Chipotle sprinkles in there yumm 👍👍
True, nice to simmer and reduce for an hour though, enhances the flavours :)
@@Papparoni yh true..me uncle bless his soul used too say "Let it coagulate" lol like next day flavours sorta thing let it get too know each other.. but I'm not sure coagulate is the nicest word too use in cooking or even the correct one but hey ho he was a top bloke none the less 👍...edit ahh he must have been talking about just next day food coz it does coagulste in the fridge doesn't it so spose he was right 🤣🤣
@@jshaw4757 He was absolutely right J :)
Looking good.. I call this pimping your shop meals if you get it right you can turn crap into magic and make it so you get more your moneys worth making up some nice mash or rice or whatever 😁😁👍
Indeed mash is great with curry!
Definitely cheaper than a takeaway vindaloo 👍
Indeed about 7 times cheaper Sarah!
@@Papparoni it'd probably taste better too lol
@@sarahillingworth2718 Bless you :)
@@Papparoni 👍
I have curry on a plate of crumpets crumpets.. Ha
Sounds great to me Stephen, in fact, curry on anything does!
Pap, Don't know if it's me, But you really looked like you didn't enjoy that 😭
Food was fine mate, my state of mind might not have been on that day!
No poppadums ? Pepperoni
I didn't have any Andrew, hence the crumpet
I like a bit of crumpet especially with lots of butter and beans of the baked variety on top
@@Andrew-ck1ob Me too, also with cheese as well
Don't encourage him, ha ha.
That's a lot of butter and garlic Pappas.ģreat respect next Saturday's curry for me great video!
Cheers Craig, I love my garlic!
