Biffa: “because trees are free.”
Me: sees that each of those trees cost 12 tea leaves and watching Biffa’s money go down…. 🤔
Trees indeed are free... with mods! 😂 Tree brush makes them free. Biffa hasn't played vanilla in a while it seems 😂
And then at about the 26:40 mark Mayor Biffa gets a chirp from a Karen complaining and accusing him of chopping down all the trees! 😂🤣 You can't make that $#!+ up!!! 😂 I retorted with, "It was _already_ a barren wasteland, lady!"
I thought it said 12.
@@YourCodingTutorial that’s what I said. In the game, Biffa calls “dollars” “Tea Leaves.”
😎👍🏽
I have a challenge for you Biffa. For a change, try to make trolley buses and trams the main source of public transport (Have the most weekly passengers). It’ll make it feel unique and give the city a nice vibe
Trams in the snow would look sick!
I am pretty sure that trams were introduced in the same pack as the winter/snow was, so they will do great!
Poor blimps. Never a thought given... :)
I’ve tried to use trams and trolley busses in my latest build, but after I had reached 25k population, things went down hill fast with the amount that I was able to transport. They are nice for some main roads, but due to their inflexible nature they aren’t well suited for much heavy traffic. Either way I’d love to see that too
Without trains, you can have a Snowpiercer
"Why isn't it letting me do that?" - The official motto of every anarchy user's city when they first start an unmodded build. ^^* I feel for you.
😁
And this is why I don't want to play without mods..
Don't forget that you can mark roads as "priority roads" in vanilla, which will help with your traffic flow when not using mods.
This will just add stop signs to intersections, which is not really a good thing.
Vanilla traffic flow will always be better without priority signs. I can predict that roundabout will soon be clogged up. It will need to remove stop signs and upgrade to 3 lanes highway
As far as I know it gives the ability to add yield signs when you do that as well, since we all know stop signs are the devil's armpit
@@TS_Mind_Swept nope, vanilla has no yield signs. As a console player, my round abouts are all stop signs.
@@firehazardentertainment8381 well that's also console 🤷🏿♀️
Can't you also click the road names to assign roundabouts?
I would call this city : FrosTEA Peaks!
frosty
@@seanlennon9714 "Vanilla Fros-Tea"
@@realfrantheman yes! The best name so far
I second Frostea Peaks ^^
How about Helsinktea
As he says "trees are free", I'm watching his money decrease as he's planting trees.
Since we have already an Iceland country, I would just add tea and vote on Iced-Tealand
For a console gamer its cool to see you making a city without mods. Love to see some traffic/landscaping mods on Xbox.
Watching biffa struggles makes this series more interesting. I'll definitely follow this series till the end
:-)
One man's agony, another one's pleasure. =D
It's killing me that he's building quay walls and talking about bridges when his power infrastructure is on a razors edge of collapse.
Yeah his memory is like a goldfish sometimes…
Kinda wish this wasn't modless. But hey, I like that you can't flatten everything!
Also, FrosTea Valley.
Just watching this makes me appreciate my mods even more. Not that I have a lot, but they are appreciated!
they make all the difference
Yeah, I think I'd throw my pc out the window if I tried playing this without the MoveIt mod. Far too infuriating to be enjoyable.
@@NickFoster Moveit! is nice but I would pick TM:PE as my favorite.
@@covishen I love TM:PE from a gameplay point of view, but trying to place stuff without MoveIt/Anarchy would just make me rage quit :D
I think I agree with most, Moveit and TM:PE are pretty much required imo to play. Not sure why it wasn't even put in the normal game by now.
Something satisfying about watching biffa go thru all the troubles that us console players go thru everyday.
I remembered that vanilla-flavoured food is usually white - like snow - so I figure that'd be a great base for this town's name, but I can't find any specific name for vanilla tea :(
@sp0777iXdlMLalN0dsXxlMlNdsM0jdsj Yeah, but that's a weird name for a town.
Spice Imperial Tea has vanilla in it but I don't know how you could incorporate that into a name.
@@greywizard2557 I think the only thing that can be done is just shove the word "tea" into the word "vanilla". "Vanitea" has the added advantage of being a homonym of a real word (although I don't know if it fits), so I guess I'll go with that.
@@eskreskao well I suppose this could turn into Biffa's vanitea project so it could work. 😉
I have learned so much traffic fixing tips from you in the past, but I just can’t play without mods after playing with mods for the first time
hey Biffa, your forestry area only has 146 available jobs and you need to get to 150 available to upgrade to the next level.
Yeah read that wrong! :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines not for the first time 😜
15:31 the park paths are self-leveling, so they create artifacts along your seawall. Use the standard path to avoid that.
Enjoying these videos, particularly seeing a content creator who uses mods quite a bit in their videos attempting it as vanilla again. Hopefully you will understand our pain as console players when creators turn around and say something like, "now I'll just use the Move It mod." 😂
And, Biffa, nothing in vanilla is free. Every action costs money. Just a tip. A PG Tip, if you will. 😉
I feel the pain lol :-)
As this was recorded in advance, you may have spotted it in your Forestry Industries area. It is difficult to get all of the work places filled. I would suggest adding some more tree production. Relatively cheap, and more employment opportunities. Should get you to level up to 2*.
Once that levels up, perhaps a second exit from the city to the motorway near that area. Will stop trucks having to drive through the city and giving you traffic problems later on (particularly as Hugo is on holiday at the moment 😁).
Can't control roundabouts properly in vanilla either.
@@serenfyr pc vanilla still had some advantages on cities compared to console like having your info views while placing roads, so on console you can’t have your terrain height view on while placing roads
4:45 We know trees are free.
No they aren't. :)
Nice to see non-modded play for a bit.
"We know that trees are free"
Tooltip "Construction cost: 12"
And levelling the land isn’t free either.
One of those islands has to be Leisure for bars/restaurants/nightlubs & be called Long Island (Iced Tea) after the cocktail.
Perfect timing Biffa, fits in perfectly for my lunch break 🥳
Enjoy! :-)
Its dinner time for me (AUS)
My goodness, did not knew you can boost your output by plopping some tree around you "wood production".
Watch Biffa and you learn new things all the time.
Thank you
😁
It would be better if he plopped the trees down FIRST and THEN built the tree farms
I love watching others play snow maps on my phone, I can't play them though all that white on a larger PC screen gives me a headache. Another highway exit at the end of town where the forestry is would ease the traffic through the city and the other exit.
I was going to make the same suggestion for another service interchange. All his traffic is bottlenecking at the roundabout.
Hmm... technically you could probably adjust contrast, brightness, gamma, relight, LUTs, and such but who knows if there would be a good balance to find.
@@deViant14 possibly, but I think a big part of it is the lack of contrast also, I so wish there were snow maps that were seasonally snowy rather than all year round. I think breaking it up a bit would help a lot.
@@sistercharlatan probably true. I can't say I've played any snowy maps yet. I live in Vermont and we see enough snow already! 😄
I am LOVING all these daily posts and I love you, Biffa! Big fan, love your vids 😁
Yay, thank you! :-)
Yes same
I'd like to see "Cold Brew County" or something like that as the name of the city!
Great series btw, really enjoying it so far! :)
Watching Biffa struggle to do things without mods is rather cathartic, like an affirmation that I've been playing the game right all this time.
Once Biffa's satisfied with how far this city is going to go (I'd give it at least to 50 000 pops), it'd be neat to load up mods again to 'fix' everything that couldn't be done without them, just to compare the experience. Of course, by that time he might have figured out traffic layouts that don't need mod support to work [cheeky grin].
I would like to recommend a video for every one to watch; "The Ugly, Dangerous, and Inefficient Stroads found all over the US & Canada [S105]" by Not Just Bikes. I'm interested in the methods used in the Netherlands; keeping residential roads and buildings away from main roads, and making a distinction between the two. I'm trying to do something like this in my current city.
Biffa, you should be able to add nodes to the round-a-bout(R-A-D) in Vanilla. I believe you (or someone else) mentioned in the past that if you take a road, like rural road and run it into the R-A-B (or other road) where there is not a node, it will create a node. Then, it is a matter of deleting the road you created and connecting your In and Out one-way roads. Remember, you will have to get creative based on the limited amount of space a small R-A-D has. They may not be pretty!
Played on console first, always like "there must be an easier way". Switched to PC, whatever "I Wish there were..." could be found in the workshop - how I Love the variety & comfort.
The Workshop offers more extras than a vanilla 2.0 ever could.
Biffa's now taken away all the gadgets and has to learn all over.
How long until he starts quoting other vanilla players (like Captain Ahvious' "trench building' to get even bridges)?
Let's sit back and keep enjoying the show😁
It's not really tea-related but it is winter tradition here to enjoy hot cider. I suggest naming the town 'Ciderville' or 'Appleton' .
Alternatively, as a suggestion for the forestry area name: since Overcharged Egg loves his trees and paths- his favored "spice pallette", could we call it 'Spicewood Industries'
Wow, you're making videos every day now (excluding Mondays) I thought it was for the competition.
Playing vanilla too has got me hooked even more! Love a new city :-)
Yes it is a good city, wonder what happens by the end, guess I'll find out.
We both shall! :-)
Maybe IceTea for the name? Can't wait for the in-home heating systems.
@@Hot_HeadGaming
IceTea is a lovely name for the city. 😀
Hey Biffa! I just started playing this game and it’s amazing. I love your videos so much!! They teach me and entertain me a lot. Hope your tea is amazing this week. Love your accent as well ❤️
Glad you like them! Thanks :-)
I bought a PC in 2019 for my birthday because I wanted to play C:S so bad after watching this channel.
Wind turbines in water. more power and jump electricity without lines.
Man, I'm super addicted to this series already! What about the name ÁTEAla Islet? It's the most southern part of South America before Antartica :)
Its so stressful to see biffa without the mods, he's an artist with mods
And here in thos vanilla map, it feels like he's a painter without brush
But it's pretty cool to see him overcome these inconveniences
Biffa "We know trees are free" plants a thousand trees at a cost of 10-whatever per tree.
Listening to you talk about not having mods makes me smile we know the pain.
:-)
Watching your videos made me pick up cities skylines a long time ago... but on console. Absolutely love the game, hundreds of hours into it.. but was always a little green seeing all the mods. That said I still use a lot of your strategies:) So seeing you play vanilla is great as it is something i can really relate to! Maybe call the city "Vanilla Hills" in honour of no mods!
You should turn that empty space next to the river/quay into a city park! Get some fishing piers on there!
Really love this alternating schedule Bif! New city already looks great and New Tealand can only become better and better 😁
Hope so! :-)
Biffa. You can put the bridge roads down to the ground. It works on my Xbox. It also makes the sidewalks more stylish.
I would go with: Vanilla Ice Burg
I'd love to fit tea around that ice, like Vanilla Ice Tea Port or something similar, but I think ice burg is more thematic.
Don't forget, what you need generic industry to produce the goods for your local commercial buildings. Otherwise they will send a call to outside of the city.
I’d love to see how this series turns out because I also have a no mod no cheat play through going on (on console) and I still can pull of some beautiful cities and keep high traffic flow. Also Tip! Use the new bridges to replace the regular roads because they have unique walking paths and even when your not using them as a bridge the unique paths are still there
CS - No Mods Snow Theme City Name: "Vanilla Chai" (like Vanilla Sky)
19:25 Not having Move It! to bring the curve of that slip road in immediately irked me something fierce.
In the future, consider using four or six lane bus roads in industrial sections. That will keep trucks out of the outside lanes until the node before their destination building or the intersection where they are turning.
I sometimes use the 4 lane bus road in place of 2 lanes where I will be densely placing industries buildings or warehouses. I also use the 6 lanes where I would normally use the 4 lane just to reduce congestion from vehicles going in/out of buildings.
If you remove the stop sign at the entrance roundabout (from the highway) that traffic will stop backing up. Also, if you add some trees by the entrance roundabout it'll cut down the noise pollution by a lot for those residential areas. It looks pretty red by the ramps and around the roundabout. Trees work just as well as the walls on a highway if you place a bunch.
don't forget for the farm, Biffa. You can use animal pens where there is no fertile ground
Loving this series. It has been ages since I played a purely vanilla city and I am not even sure I could do it.
Thanks :-)
I'd love this city or at least the mountain range to be named The Teatons.
Really enjoying this series. I am new to skylines and i would have to say these vids are teaching me quite a bit about the mechanics like industry vs industrial... cant wait until offices and high density since i am still clueless how those really function since my cities normally die after i upgrade to those.
I love snow cityes! i play a lot of vanilla CS and i learn some tricks. you can make forest resources anywhere, but you shuld put the trees before anything is builded, so the resource last longer and you can select an entire road and mark it as "main road" and it will remove traffic light and put stop signs (i'm not sure about that last one, but i remember that option having a purpose)
Biffa: We have to save for a power plant & water
Also Biffa: keep buying roads, paths & quays
😂
5:22 “Nice and green. Nice and green.” Perhaps call it Green Tea Forest? 😀
Really loving this series. I play on console so seeing how you build your city with vanilla's restrictions is really inspiring.
I have a challenge idea. Or maybe more of a side series idea.
"Expanding Maps: ________"
A series of trying to expand and flesh out the limited and/or one time used locations in other games. For example (and for the challenge) North Yankton from GTA5. Maybe expand it to the greater Yankton area. Heavy industrial and farming with small towns dotted around the place.
I keep wondering if those long blocks should have walking paths cutting through to connect the midpoints of the long sides. Essentially making them into a series of shorter walking blocks to facilitate getting from buildings on one long side to the other.
I think you should call the city "Lipton".
Cuz they make iced tea.
Biffa... if you make a road a 'Priority Road', before adjusting the lights... Then when you go down the road to change from traffic light to stop sign, you only have to turn the light off. It will auto put in the stop signs for you
Name suggestion, the town of Camellia, because Camellia Sinensis is the name of a plant that is known as the tea plant or tea shrub
You just gave me the idea of Camelli Vanilli, which might be a good music festival name.
New city...huh... that's like a new season of an exciting show comin' up 😅..wait did you just say Vanilla 😱 omg this is gonna be fantastic
Indeed it is, don't miss episode 1! :-)
The roundabout issue can be fixed as I play on ps4 what I do is put a main road above the roundabout with on and off ramps between roundabout and the highway. Also when it comes to traffic you need to actually think like the game does so get as many internal highways you can in your city. This is from a vanilla PS4 player down under. Hope this helps
Enjoying the vanilla playthrough - they're pretty rare now, seems like everybody is using tons of mods and assets for their videos. I'm hoping this series last a while, would love to pick up some tips on solving problems in a medium-large size city without mods.
Literally pressing refresh over and over again. Haha. Love you Biffa.
Welcome back!
I'm already loving this city. The snow makes it magical.
Two names suggestions -----> Snow Tea Mountain - - Frosty Mountain Tea Leaves
My proposal: Snow Tea Creek (snotty) because your town with snow reminds me of some posh skiing resort :) Keep on your great series. Learned a lot from you.
24:30 My OCD is broken beyond imagination, love how the city is starting to shape without mods though, makes me realize that you don't need mods for everything
Sugar Flake is a good name for this sweet city. Loving see you in vanilla ^__^
As a console player I really appreciate this! Good work biff.
👍
Perhaps it could be called Vanilla Iced Tea.
Though any tea-related puns are frosty by me.
24:00 that bridge really should follow the angle it intersected the main coastal street. It would lead to a smaller bridge and much better looks.
Also, remove the stop sign from the roundabout leg with highway access to prioritize this fundamental movement.
I know it's a long shot, but I'm gonna suggest that you place this city somewhere in the Swiss/French alps, and call it "Fleuve de Dlace Vanille" which is bad french for "River of Icy Vanilla". It means you'll be able to mock the French every time you run out of money.
Canadian here: If you are going to make this a realistic winter city, bike paths in winter do not make sense.
Exactly
Biffa: I'll make a key wall here...
Me: Stop spending money!!!!!!
Biffa: I need $$ for a power plant, for a farming office, schools, services.... *builds quay walls that don't help any actual problems* lol
Wintealand sound perfect for me ears
Name ideas keep hitting me. Iced Tea County for the city name. The town we start in can be called Brisk Hills, like the american tea brand. Then Brisk Farms. And Timber Brisk forest.
'We haven't got enough money' but uses the expensive roads in the residential districts....!
One thing that might help the traffic flow on the roundabout is to narrow the roundabout to 1 lane between the exit and entry roads from the industry area. That will enforce turning lanes, and so will help to spread the traffic out over the two lanes rather than it all just sitting in the right hand lane.
Sooo…. I like to start a new city when you do. Mainly for the map. But decided no mods (visual only) and hard mode as well……. Holy cow…. It’s a totally different game. Money wise though I’m not having a problem being positive it’s just the costs for the larger buildings you definitely gotta wait a little longer to build it up. I’m at like 30k now the differences in our cities already is cool too. I love the variety. Same map, totally different city. Love your stuff as always keep it up!
Edit: the cost of heating pipes is insane!!!!
I actually like Timber Industry as a name for the forestry area. Feels snowy.
Teamber industry
Biffa's snow town looks surprisingly colourful. Especially in comparison with Overcharged Egg's one.
Recycling centres are actually cheaper than incinerators in the long run. It goes about two Recycling for one Insinirator, but incinerators cost about three times as much in the week. IF I'm correct.
The fact that the bridge has one part that isn’t upgraded gives me anxiety
Trees are not free to place, but still very cheap. $12 for each tree you placed.
Yeah, free enough :P
Biffa says, "To get to busy town you need 4,400 people." Watches money go over 4,400 and wonders why he did not get an achievement. Then realizes it is his money not population.
There's a fairly popular brand of iced tea in the US called Luzianne. That has to make an appearance somewhere!
would be funny to come back to this after all episodes of this vanilla mode with the mods and see what the city could of been with them but BIFFA another fantastic vid thank you
Teappuccino... aka, frozen tea slushie
The forestry industry looks like a Christmas tree farm! You should name it Santea Claus forest!
Clearly, this would be the city of IceTea
It's so wierd seeing you not using mods :D
It's weird not using them! :-)
Vanilla-i-city - vanilla ice tea
A name for a snowy park could be "SnowTea Escape" instead of Snowy
Biffa: "trees are free"
me: -sees in small font $12
Biffa: -continues to plot hundreds of them
me: -sees his budget decreases 😅
Free enough ;-)
the first "whole even bridge" (without mods) we never forget! hahaha...
By the way: NoModLand for a name - or maybe SnoModLand! hahaha =P
Oh man, i watch too much Biffa ( as if that's possible ) but i totally noticed when looking for specific mods. I think the picker picker mod is the most noticable. Hate to say it but it's so much fun to see the struggle.
As someone who has played this game on console for years and has only recently started playing it on PC with mods, it's strangely satisfying seeing Biffa experience the awful struggles I've had to face for so long! It's all fun and games till your city gets bigger and you have to manage traffic *without* using TMPE!
Did you get use to keyboard controlling ? I just tried PC version and the controls are a pain to me. I can barely move the camera like I want :-(
@@johndoh6584 Oh God no, using a keyboard and mouse still feels alien to me lol. I'm so used to doing things with two hands on a controller that doing things one handed with a mouse feels odd. It's like I've only got half the precision I'm used to. Not to mention my finger cramps up hovering over the mouse constantly, and I often forget how to do the simplest things like raising or lowering a road to make a bridge etc, as they're tied to specific keyboard buttons rather than shortcuts on a controller. It's rough getting used to it, but finally having mods is bloody amazing
@@BadgerOff32 Ah :-(
I hope I will get used to it because I also want to use mods and assets.
They should at least have given us controller support :-/
