Kraze - The Party (house, 1988)

- One of my favourite old skool anthems. The original mix from 1988, released by MCA records
The big man behind 'Kraze' is the Haitian born Richard Jean Laurent. Living in New York, he began songwriting and performing in 1985. The time that house was the 'new big thing' in underground clubs in the US. Richard Laurent's career took off in the legendary 'Paradise Garage'-club in New York City, where his first performances were a big succes. A few months later he formed the house-act 'Moonfou' and released his first tracks on vinyl. His second release "Shut Up" was an instant hit, selling 250.000 copies his first time out.
After this first big success in the US and with house breaking in Europe, Richard Laurent decided to start another act together with his two sisters and ex-Madonna boyfriend Norris Borroughs: Kraze. Big Beat recordings signed Kraze after hearing the demo-version of 'The Party'. It was only the second release for this famous independent house-label and the first big international breakthrough for Big Beat Recordings. 'The Party' became an international club- and chart-hit, selling 850,000 copies worldwide in the first release. It even made it to the pop-charts in Europe, peaking for instance at number 29 in the UK Top 40 and at number 32 in the Dutch Top 40. This was all before house exploded in Europe, which made Kraze's 'The Party' one of the first house-tracks to reach international chart-success.
The big success led to an international Kraze-tour, which took them to Australia, the UK, Amsterdam, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan and Tunisia. Kraze had more clubhits in the years following, but 'The Party' was by far the biggest. It became a house-classic and even nearly 25 years after its release, people in clubs are still dancing to this tune. It was a hit again in 2006, in the remix of Milk & Sugar.
Kraze did some performances with Milk & Sugar in 2006, when the track hit the charts again in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. But these days Kraze (Richard Laurent) is better known as Earthman for his Bio Sonic compositions. The theory behind ultrasound (healing and connecting through vocal tones, frequencies, and sonic vibrations) always had his intrest and Richard Laurent decided to fully dedicade to this work in the late nineties.
One of the other Kraze-members Norris Borroughs is nowadays still 'famous' because he was one of the first boyfriends of pop-legend Madonna and even had an influence on her career. He is mentioned and interviewed in several Madonna-biographies. He met Madonna in the winter of 1978, when she was studying with choreograper Pearl Lang. Norris dated Madonna for several months and after they stopped dating, he introduced Madonna to his friend Dan Gilroy, who started her first band. Prior to that time, she had been strictly a dancer. From that point, she left Gilroy with bassist Gary Burke and former boyfriend Steve Bray, who produced the tracks that got Madonna her first record deal.

Vocals by Richard Laurent. I just met this guy yesterday at an investor’s meet up in Miami, such a cool guy, he currently lives in the Caribbean and operates hotels. Love this vibe, can’t believe I had the pleasure of meeting him before I heard this.

Ich liebe diesen Song, auch wenn er so minimalitisch Aufgebaut ist. Waren die 80ziger und wir jung! 🙂
US House & Detroit Techno scene is one of the greatest musical exports. Such a beautiful time, so much creativity & people just catching good vibes in clubs, then it inspiring & being the catalyst for building up to what eventually became rave culture in Europe. How I wish I was around to experience them back then. Everyone focuses on the classic rock, pop & other American music that made such a huge impression on the world, but this type of music is such an under appreciated goldmine
I just love reading all these great comments. Everybody on the same page about the happy feelings this era of music brought to an entire generation! 55 yr here and have never grown tired of it. I still thump out these tunes in my car with my windows down driving around town. My very own technohousemobile!
52 myself, was 17 when I heard house for the first time, I still listen daily, bones are creacking, lockdown not helping, looking forward to getting out there and have a dance again, this music is ageless.
I share what you say. I presume of this music so that the boys are filled with envy. / Comparto lo que dices Paul. Presumo de esta música para que los chicos se llenen de envidia. Saludso desde Argentina. Tengo 54

When I was about a kid and was being punished from my dad, he'd make me sit on the couch in the living room while he played his records all day long. And this absolute banger was the very first house record I ever heard. Little did he know but I was hooked!!!......AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!!!!!

Oooh yeah....this track put on fire italian dancefloors in autumn 1988 and become a classic. In addition to this there was an italian version ad well....with nasty lyrics...maybe someone in Italy could still remenber this....😊😊😊
This track is mad, got to love the raw and pure early house
I still play all these old school songs when chilling @ home 👍😜
this is so unfair, I was not even born when all the good music came out. Classic music is the sheet.
Ugh totally unfair! Makes me sad everytime I think about it :(

Ah, I see what you did there.
Éramos tan Felices.. tengo 50. Gracias a Dios, lo bailé
Awesome tune , I want to the party to start, there isn't any age for this music, we never to old... keep it up.
the best clubsong in the final eighties-time !!
Just found this and I'm losing my mind. The mere existence of this song is absolutely bonkers. I can't believe that this *relatively* obscure (Yeah, I know there's 3 million views which isn't negligible but it's been *16* years since the upload of this video) song, which even Wikipedia doesn't have more information on other than a foot note in an unrelated article, is almost like an ancestor for fucking everything. Like I said, relatively obscure, yet has been sampled in *115* songs, and that's not even including indie creators (I mean, how would that even be possible?)!!!
I may have found this today but god damn this song is LEGENDARY.
SOMEBODY SCREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM!!!!
Can you feel it ❤
Amazing tune... I love it
Omg! I use to love this song when dancing in the warehouse clubs of Toronto, NYC and Chicago! Twilight Zone days in Toronto it was a fabulous dance movement!
The Underground-1988- NYC. Best music everrrrr
The best! My godness j'avais 14, 15 ans à l'epoque et c'etait un des morceaux que je préférais!
the first song I heard the first time I went to the disco!!!! MY GOD!!!! sooo many time ago.....:-)
Don't ever be sad bc it's gone, be happy because you lived it up back then ✌️
