Pogroms: A Documentary History

From the 1880s to the 1940s, an upsurge of explosive pogroms caused much pain and suffering across the eastern borderlands of Europe. Rioters attacked Jewish property and caused physical harm to women and children. During World War I and the Russian Civil War, pogrom violence turned into full-blown military actions. In some cases, pogroms wiped entire Jewish communities out of existence. More generally, they were part of a larger story of destruction, ethnic purification, and coexistence that played out in the region over a span of some six decades. Pogroms: A Documentary History surveys the complex history of anti-Jewish violence by bringing together archival and published sources--many appearing for the first time in English translation. This landmark volume and its distinguished roster of scholars provides an unprecedented view of the history of pogroms. Speakers include co-editors Elissa Bemporad(CUNY) and Eugene Avrutin (University of Illinois) as well as Darius Staliunas (Lithuanian Institute of History) and David Myers (UCLA).

I think it is a pogrom, if authorities do not intervene and put a stop to it in a legal way. If it's ignored by the police for example.

I still don’t understand..all these massacres of Jewish people…how can the murderers distinguish who’s a Jew and who’s not?? Especially the children? You can’t just walk down the street and start killing people because they look Jewish? People look the same to me..I am Asian and I bet you don’t know I am Chinese or Vietnamese or Japanese or Korean…anyway I watched lots of video regarding these pogroms and still feel painful inside ..just don’t understand how nature allow this human species to evolve despite of such behaviors..animals behave better than this..they kill for food and survival..human kills out of hatred and pleasure, and natural selection still pick us??! One would know who one is by their carriage, accents, manner of speaking, then finer points, religion, clothing, physical aspects, syntax, foods, it isn't rocket science, but your sense of innocence is refreshing, keep studying genocide to learn how to pursue peace and you will be the one evolving, study peace to avoid genocide and follow the dictum, never again.
