- Mama let that boy play some rock and roll
Jazz is much too crazy, he can play it when he's old
He's too young for the blues, he's still inside his first pair of shoes
He's just a baby
Give that boy some freedom, let him move around
Don't get in his way, you'll only bring him down
Mama won't you let him, let him play some rock and roll, yeah
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Oh yeah...
Well, all right...
Come on now
Mama let that boy play some rock and roll
Jazz is much too crazy, he can play it when he's old
He's too young for the blues, he's still inside his first pair of shoes
He's so young
Give that boy some freedom, let him move around
Don't get in his way, you'll only bring him down
Mama won't you let him, let him play some rock and roll, yeah
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Oh yeah...
Well, come on now
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Let him say what he wants to say
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Let him say what he wants to say
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Come on now!
Ooo hoo hoo!
Hooo yawww!
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Mama let him play, let him play
Let him say what he wants to say
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll
Let him play some rock and roll

Agree, blasting this song cruising down the highway , i find it hard to not put the pedal down to the rug , or on a bike having the throttle wide open lol cheers .
RIP Jerry Doucette. Thank you Jerry for the music!
So sad, he was a cool guy. our hamilton music scene'll never be the same :(
@@Fretless99 RIP Jerry Doucette And RIP Eddie Van Halen I Can't believe They Are Both Gone.
I read you and i just understand that the father of "Mama let him play" left us. Thank you Doucette. Your Rock'n Roll will never die.
@@ashini9511 Jerry Doucette Was Better than Justin Bieber.
@@Fretless99 I just found out he's gone. Me & so were in Kelowna for his last concert a few years ago, no tickets, we heard him when we stopped for coffee. We stayed outside the gates, I danced in the street. Wouldn't change a thing.
I've played with the guy before. He told me this song came from his mom wanting him to learn all the scales. But he was upstairs playing rock and roll. His dad said Mama let that boy play some rock and roll. That came straight from Jerry to me!
How cool is that! He showed up in Greg Allman's book a bit. Could have been a Brother. Said he didn't like the commitment of a band. Is that true? First heard the song on K-SHE 95 St. Louis in the mid 70s. Bought the album.
If that's true that's so solid!
@@kenmartin6776 I also first heard this song on KSHE
@@kenmartin6776 I first heard the song on K-She/95,too. Heard it at my School Cafeteria at lunch time on the School Cafeteria. Late 70s. Eureka .
So cool.. met him while sitting on a.park bench several yrs ago in whiterock... we talked about kids, life. at the end of our convo he shook my hand and said oh I'm Jerry great to meet you, see ya around.. just like that and just an overall awesome guy
I'm 75 years old and a totally unregenerate rock and roller !! This is in my list of absolute Top 10 R & R tunes of all times. The riffs are fabulous !!! This tune deserves a LOT more respect AND air time from so-called R & R radio. If you're in your vehicle on a road trip, this tune is worth AT LEAST another 10 MPH on the speedo. LOLOL No matter where you are, this tune makes you want to dance NOW !!!
Thank you, Jerry.
I’d be interested in seeing your Top Ten
Heard it on the road on the way to work and I was speeding. 😅

42 years after I first heard this song, this tune still rocks! The guitar break is so slick and brilliant. If your toes aren't tapping during this song, you're dead, deaf, or have no rhythm...
listening to the guitar break while i was reading this comment, goose bumps and you had it right. my foots definitely tapping.
When I 1st heard this song on the radio I was blown away. Of course I had no idea of who the artist/ band was. I had to call the station and ask the DJ the artists name ( remember those old days ?) I then went out and bought the album. I still have it & play it. One of my favorite songs & a he'll of a guitar player. RIP Jerry.

Love this song! I'm a '65 baby!! It reminds me of summer in Ontario and listening to CHUM FM!! WHEN RADIO WAS GOOD!! 🇨🇦
If this song doesn’t get your tapping, you’re dead or deaf...what a kick ass party song!
Hole Album kicks ass
I was born in 75....lived all my life in Minot North Dakota....and I can't tell you WHY....but I LOVE this song....I know my parents listened to this over and over again....I remember the kid sitting there and the dude with the double guitar....lots of Outlaws, April Wine, REO, Van Halen....I thank my dad all the time for raising me RIGHT!!!
Erica Copeland im born in 2006 and my dad i thank him for raising me with the right music
And that, your dad did. Was bringing up his kids listen to music of all different kinds,I'm sure, being that your Dad is about the same age as me. I let our 3 kids listen to what I was listening to,and then they listened to what they liked when they aged a bit (High School). Imay not have liked everything that they listened to, but I gave it a try, and found some of it was not so bad. Thanks to our kids, for keeping us on the younger side ! you too !!
Erica Copeland me too, but I arrived mid - 67 and heard it on the radio. Dude is from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Did you hear this on a radio station out of Winnipeg? If not, I'm impressed that this great tune got airplay in the US.

We played this song in our band for 25 years. The crowd always loved it. My brother loved kicking ass on the lead guitar solo. A great song for a three piece band. Great memories!!!
JERRY IS MUCH OLDER NOW BUT WAS STILL PLAYING GIGS TILL THE CON=V SCAM CAME ALONG AND DESTROYED THE INDUSTRY.
Mushroom Records, Little Mountain Sound, Vancouver in the 70s - great times and great music.
It was . Seen Jerry right back to Rohan's Days .
RIP Jerry, the great ones never die they just rock on.
Amen to that! His music will live on FOREVER!!!
Best song to come out of Vancouver in a long time. No doubt. The heavy guitar guitar works is simply out of this world. If BTO had recorded this song surely No 1 on charts.
Montreal
@@billadams5778 Jerry was born in Montreal, but Doucette was formed in Vancouver and they were on the Mushroom label from Vancouver, so Vancouver is actually correct. You're a no mind with no ability to express yourself beyond one line sentences. If you're going to insult somebody make it WORTH the read. Put some creativity in to it bud.
You're not even entertaining accidentally.
roquefortfiles blah blah and more blah. I own your ass, now dance bitch.
roquefortfiles reply again. I command you.
roquefortfiles yes yes we all know you would like to bend me. Again stop sexting me! Keep believing what they spoon feed you.
Rest in Peace Jerry Doucette. I was 12-years old when my brother brought this album home 45-years ago. This is a great loss for all of us who spun vinyl back in the day as kids. You've left an indelible mark in our music heads forever. Now you'll play up in Heaven for eternity with the greats. From all your fans who grew up playing music in the North End of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
RIP our friend. Thank you for picking up a guitar. Much Love❤❤
I hear this song all the time. It's stuck in my head now. RIP Jerry Doucette.
My dad had this record when I was 7 years old, he's gone now, but when it comes on the radio, or shuffle play I feel he's near. Gotta add one more thing...this song was way before its time! You'd never know it's from 1977!!!
Great air guitar song when I was 15 RIP Jerry Doucette thanks for the memories 🙏 ❤️
RIP Jerry. This song is on my permanent playlist.
Fantastic CLASSIC CANADIAN tune! One that proves Canucks can ROCK with the best!
Rest In Peace you legend! Your lyrics will forever live! 🙏
An awesome song from the day it came out. A standard for cruising and house parties in high school. Rest In Peace Jerry, you’ll be missed.
AFTER NOT HEARING THIS SONG FOR 30 YEARS IT JUST CAME INTO MY MIND THATS HOW GREAT IT IS
seen these live 1981,love this song.
One of my absolute Favorites from my 'days of less clarity.' He will certainly be missed. The man could find and truly ride a groove.
This song has been in my setlist for over 40 years, just heard that Jerry is singing with the angel’s now. Sad news. RIP Jerry, gone but never to be forgotten! :( (I’m not going to mention just how many hours I had to sit with my little cassette recorder, in my room, trying to figure out that killer guitar riff. I STILL can’t get it quite right, but it’s good enough to get the ppl out on the dance floor!)
i have not herd this tune since i was a lad of ten yrs old back in 77, great tune
It is still played at weddings in northern Illinois to this day.
Righteous!
RIP Gerry. Time to take your well deserved place in Rock n Roll heaven.
Best Canadian rocker song of all time! Whatever happened to great R&R songs like this. Awesome guitar lead too. This always packed the dance floor in high school too! Gawd bless u Eddie Doucette!
this is the most rockin' rock 'n roll tune that I can think of. Outstanding!
His Voice Sounds Like David Lee Roth From Van Halen.
2019 anybody? ?
Oh yeah :)
Yep

YES! I had forgotten about this tune...so glad to find it by a lucky CZcams coincidence.

I'll never get tired of hearing this song. It's so spot on. I was a viedo of Joe Walsh playing Funk 49 and he said, "If I knew I would have to play this song every time I played I would have written something else." This is that kind of song.
Plentywood Montana and I grew up on Canadian rock. It's just the best.
Plentywood? yeah ! I’m in Helena... dig ya!
Awesome!!
that guitar solo is fan-frickin-awesomazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Played this tune often on my radio shows!
Great song. Classic
My good friend from high school in the late 70's / early 80's tried desperately to land this song and album, an original album, in the 2010's and beyond. It took him a few years but he found "an original". Because of his determination, I've only come to appreciate Jerry Doucette's talent. I wish I had given him the acknowledgement back in the late 70's/early 80's that he deserved. Great song and BTW, great album
Thats funny 'cause my parents bought me this record from a pawn shop in Thunder Bay and its original from 1977. It was missing a sleave but otherwise in beautiful condition.
Saw Jerry 20 times on the Hornby Strip. Vancouver
1978-1980. Love these old tunes.RD
First time hearing this song. Love it.
Jerry was very smart to send the tape to KSHE-95. I grew up 90 minutes to the south of STL, but have been all over the world and KSHE is the ONLY FM radio station I've EVER heard it played on. They did Doucette (and me) a real solid, or we may have never heard this song at all. Thanks you, SweetMeat!
I literally just heard this yesterday on KSHE! I thought it was an obscure Huey Lewis tune at first!
mama let them play some ROCK N ROLL!!! WHOS LISTENING IN 2O18??
This Sounds Like Van Halen.

Play some Rock and Roll in heaven
A GREAT SONG!!!
Why it never got the love it deserved is a mystery. But I play it on the local jukebox down here in the states in 2021 and it always pleases the patrons.
As a matter of fact that whole LP was pretty damn good.
This was one of my first songs I really loved. I played it like ten times a day.
The band we hired for our wedding had to know this song which they did.
Years later my brother would come to playing on stage with Jerry at the Arlington in Red Deer.
Both now gone, I hope they are both able to play on that stage in the heavenlies!
Rest in Peace Jerry your music brings back alot of great memories!
RIP Jerry...thanks for this awesome anthem from our youth.
This guy truly rocks, well played
Best song ever thanks dad all my friends silten to shitty songs and im literally the only kid in my class that knows this song jeez but i love this song
Me too love this tune
I hope Jerry can see this comment...I’ve loved this song from the second I heard the first note! You rock Jerry Doucete!!!
Just a fantastic song all the way around! From the music, the instrumental switch-up, the beat, the lyrics - IT'S A FREAKING GREAT SONG AND I COULD LISTEN TO IT OVER AND OVER AND NEVER GET TIRED OF IT!!! And I usually do when I play it!!!
As are my neighbors right now !
RIP Jerry . I remember blasting this tune out in my camaro cruising the streets back in the day great times cheers .
this was played on KSHE 95 throughout my teens in the 80's and still makes it in the rotation. KSHE is the rock and roll radio station in st. louis.the artist was always listed as Doucette. I didn't know that was *his* last name.
Rock on KSHE 95!!! From St. Louis rocks
St.louis here... oldest rock station in the country
long live the old rock and roll of KSHE!
Long live sweetmeat!!
Heard this song on KSHE Saturday!!!!!!
This was back when rock was king. When they played music for the love it, not for record companies who wanted cash. This is perhaps one of grestest rock songs ever!!
RIP Jerry. Classic Canadian rocker.
Ah brings me back to the truly good old days!!
One of the very best cover tunes I have ever played. Way fun. Watch what happens the audience when you play this.
45 RPM yeah I play drums in a band with my Dad, and he goes all out on this song, it's hard to keep up!
Oh, I could tell you crazy stories.
I met Jerry Doucette in a bar late one afternoon called the Copper Club about 30+ years ago in Victoria. There was nobody in the bar and he was just sitting there having a drink so I sat down a couple stools away. We started talking but it wasn't until later that I found out that he was a Canadian icon. It's a nice memory.
Jeez does this song ever cook! Stands the test of time as one of the great rock tunes of the 70's. Love it!!!
Extremely UnderRated one.of.my most favs
Great song, great soul. Sorry he's gone
Big loss to rock & roll, and the blues today. R,I,P. Jerry, much respect...
Haven't heard this song since HS in 1980.
Damn, forgot how much I loved this song.
I lived in NW Calgary back in the early eighties. Doucette used to play quite regularly at the nearby Beacon Hotel where my friends frequented. This place was a dive but had lots of fine musicians playing there including Bryan Adams.
To this day one of my favorite songs it kicks ass ❤️
Grew up in Detroit just across the river from Windsor and we were lucky to have easier access to kick ass songs like this from Canada. The power pop capital of the world
Jerry Doucette's passing bought me here . RIP..Heavy Music too
This song came out when rock an roll actually was music.

It still is.
It's st paddy's day 2023 , im 56 and I blast this tune whenever I can,

Thank you Jerry where ever you are
I was working at Expo '86 and every night on my way out of the park I would stop to listen to Jerry shred his guitar with this rock classic. I was absolutely blown away by his ability and this song. A great memory.

RIP Jerry, saw him in 1979 at the CNE opening for Triumph was a great concert
Such a beautiful and angelic voice it's sad that it will never be acknowledged.
What a rockin song! The solo is stellar!
No
mister man you simply cannot beat the progressive nineteen seventies masters of rock 'n'roll..reckon as jerry Doucette ranks right up there with the best of them!!!
Great tune. They don't make music like this anymore. First heard this song on 105.7 WAPL when I lived in Green Bay. Now I still hear it on 92.5 KQRS in Minneapolis.
II listen to this one about once a month since I was a kid in 1977. Got to have this song in my life. Jerry. and Tommy Bolin, rip.
Guitar solo is perfect. I mean, you cannot write a 'more better' series of notes than what is presented here. A classic.
Best Era of music 🎶 ever . I seen these guys play at the Beverly Crest in Edmonton many years ago . It was packed in the bar
Yesterday had the TV on in the background and this song came on, I had not heard it in years, 40 or more, But I know I rocked it at 17 and now can't get it out of my head! Now I must replay it several times and get my fix!
Jerry is indeed a very good musician..producer..and writer..definitely is at the very apex upper with the best..he is a treat you really owe yourselves...his concerts are magnificent..he has a lot of different styles in his material..hunt down the albums..you ll be well rewarded

I’m happy to call his son a friend of mine. A real Canadian legend he is and his son has a heart of gold to match what I’m sure he had as well.
This sounds like a cross between Rush and Van Halen. Awesome song.
Funny...I always thought it was VH but I'm pretty sure they covered it that's why I thought so. Lol
