Actually, it's how MOST used car dealerships operate when the car is over 10 grand.
We depend on repeat business and referrals.
Even if the car is below 3 grand, if it isn't at least 90 percent, we sell it at the auction.
Nothing costs more in headaches and time, not to mention bad feelings than selling a crappy car.

How many used cars lots would allow the Car Wizard, or the mechanic of their choice to inspect a potential sale? The Car Wizard has opened my eyes to potential issues after the warranty has ended, and particular makes have reached certain ages, particularly those cars with plastic parts. Used car lots won’t warn you the BMW timing chain plastic guide you’re interested in could fail.

When a customer wants to have a car pre inspected, the dealer has no choice in the matter. The car gets inspected by the customers mechanic. No matter who it is. Of course, they CAN refuse, and we had 1 shop that we blackballed because they were dishonest, but it's very rare. And it's done at the expense of the customer, so it's their right to pick. We always recommended to purchase an extended warranty for repairs that nobody could forsee. It was good for business and we never charged a surcharge for the warranty.

The S60's for the EU and US market is now a days produced in the US, in South Carolina. That model also has a production line in China, but mainly for the Chinese market. But I think that is a longer variant since that is very popular in that market. Don't think Volvo sell any Chinese made cars in the US under its own name. I had grown up learning all about carbs and distributors, etc - when suddenly the ENTIRE market changed. Everything was now computerized and EFI. About 85% of the old guys back then just bitched about this new fangled stuff and refused to learn it. I felt the same way, but saw that I had no choice if I wanted to keep up in the industry. Thank gawd I kept an open mind, because all those who refused to learn the new stuff went out of business really quickly!

I have two Volvo wagons that are original, a 850R and V70R. I have another 850 that's been RWD swapped with a turbocharged 3800 (bought a roller for 500 bucks, used parts laying around the shop, total prob less than 1000 bucks for a nice 850 that runs well and is simple to work on/easy to get parts powertrain wise). I've probably worked on more Volvo Semi trucks than anything Volvo though, we've bought/sold quite a few and even adapted a couple to replace the Internationals we were running for propane trucks. Drivers say they're the most comfortable/easiest to drive and they're pretty reliable/fairly simple so it's win-win.

I'm telling you, working as a service porter at my local Volvo dealer... I have never seen so many issues with cars with no pattern.
The only common problem I see on these XC90s is the piston rings due to oil consumption. Other problems range so much I can't remember any. They LOVE throwing CELs. Had a couple oil traps that go (you will know if it's an oil trap when you hear a metallic squealing noise when you start it up), but aside from the wide variety of smaller issues, these B4204... engines are alright as far as reliability is concerned. They aren't a Toyota, but they aren't the most unreliable engine.
