  • Old 91 Returns is a 30 minute video of the Middletown & Hummelstown's 2-6-0 ex-CN #91 returning to excursion operations. It was originally brought to the short-line in the 80s but didn't see full-time service till 2003. However, due to various problems with the locomotive it has sat and awaited restoration since 2009. This highlight reel from the original video takes us back to when #91 steamed along the Swatara Creek.

Canadian National 91 is a 2-6-0 built by Canadian Locomotive Company in 1910. Now found stored at the Middleton & Hummelstown Railroad in Middletown, Pennsylvania.

Nice 5 chime 91 has on. She carried a NYC 6er and also a single chime as well as an unknown 3 chime likely a lunkenheimerish whistle.

Anthony Ribera they are currently doing a 1,472 day rebuild on the engine currently. The work is being done as time and funds permit, but they do have a goal to restore it again.

@@michaelhostetter5856 it would be great if M&H could add another steam locomotive to their collection because 91 would be too small to handle the longer trains. Like a 4-6-0 or 2-8-2.

Also 91 had an original 5 chime. Is this true. I thought 91 had a 4 chime from McAnvity like sister 89.

I believe she had at one point a 5 chime during her 2003-2009 run, but I'm no expert on whistles.

@@laurelhighlandsrailfanfilm7775 also i believe one of the cars i think its 726, an open platform “Boonton” combine, that actually was Livonia Avon and Lakeville 2501 and later became part of the “infamous” Sloan Cornell collection at the Gettysburg RR in the 80s up to 95.

@@nicholasmedovich8691 There are no longer hauls. That is pretty much the entire length of the Short Line. It only extends a little further where cars are switched from a main line. (behind where the video starts).

The tourist run is slightly longer than Strasburg Railroad and the rides are under an hour I believe. Strasburg is 4 1/2 miles, and M&H is roughly 7 miles long from Amtrak interchange in Middletown to NS interchange in Hummelstown but the tourist trains only use 5 1/2 miles of track. More recently they were stopping short of the bridge because of bridge damage, I believe shaving off less than a mile each way. They used to go to the Indian Echo Caverns stop south of Rt. 322. I rode it in 1997 and a center cab GE diesel pulled and pushed our train.

@@robkrasinski6217Back in the day M& H took supplies to the Hershey plant. The tracks to the now NS Harrisburg line are still there. They can't get permission to cross Rte. 322. plus what you said about the bridge.
