We Rented The Railroad for the Day! Private Charter on the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad

- We rented the railroad for the day! Here's what we did: A small group of us decided to have our own private charter on the Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad earlier this fall. The fantastic workers & volunteers of the M&H made it happen and put on a great show!
We staged some pretty interesting shots, including next to Amtrak's Keystone Corridor where modern electric passenger trains meet our classic freight train with the railroads restored Western & Maryland ALCO S6.
Of course no train on the M&H is complete without the unique street running scene, where we did run-by at Kuppy's Diner in the morning and a train parade in the afternoon with two trains on Broad Street at the same time, with the second train of 2 GE 65 Tonners pulling loaded storage tank cars.
Throughout the day, we rode on the train up the line for more photo locations. The railroad runs to Hummelstown, but is currently truncated due to a washout next to the Swatara Creek at Indian Echo Caverns.
Overall it was a day of laughs and fun, but I think I got some good video out of it too - money well spent.

Fantastic move lets do more next time Thankyou
Once again, Fabulous video! It's especially enjoyable to see those old locomotives in action.
Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it.
I can’t like this video enough! This was an absolute delight to watch and is now one of my favorite videos on CZcams! That looked like a fun and amazing day!
One of the most fun days in quite some time, thanks for watching and liking this video!
Those old school tonner engines, ah man I can't get enough of those. Those are my favorite engines
They are neat, really had them working with those loaded cars, the street runs up grade here. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! I just read about this private charter in March 2021 RailPace Magazine. I have been wanting to do this for years on the TTI Railroad out of Paris , Kentucky since it is out of service. I see you know Jacob Rink. I railfanned with him on the CCET a couple years ago. Small world.
Come on over to my part of Pennsylvania sometime and ride the M&H!
Love the sound of that old Alco!
Thanks, me too!
Alco S6 ? She's beautiful. 4:05 spectacular clagfest.
I'm jealous !
Fantastic video my friend 👍😎
Thank you 👍
I as a child rode on this train! Very nice to see the old girl workin hard. I sat on the top right of the caboose
Awesome, love it...
makes a fun day
Thx 4 sharing !
Central penn rail productions, can you do Norfolk Southern in Richland and other Harrisburg winter hertige.
That's a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing.
pretty impressive shortline rr.
I'm gonna be having rules class to start my first shift as a crew member at M&H very soon this March of the 26th. Thanks so much for filming this as a bit of a free taste and sneak peak for all of what I'll be getting into come the next few weeks.
Very Nice Video!
Fantastic! Very well done, Thanks!
Thanks for checking out the video! Glad you liked it.
@@CentralPennRailProductions Loved it! Vintage and/or heritage equipment street running? Doesn't get any better!
He’s back
Nice Catches!! Lovely little Short line Rail Road!!!! 👍👍
I love that bell!
Me too! And that RS5T on the center cab is just a little too much horn for such a small locomotive haha.
@@CentralPennRailProductions Yep.
The shots are beautiful as always
Thank you!
Nice story.
Lovely sounding old Alco. Lovely street running bit. And how pleasant to see not a mask in sight
Thanks! And yes, we are all doing well, no one got sick.
Any idea what the deal was with that Amtrak with an ACS-64 on both ends?
I am guessing they are short on cab cars for when they go in for work or repairs, so they just put another sprinter on the other end. It's uncommon but not the first time I have seen this.
@@CentralPennRailProductions and six cars 🤔
We need a Harrisburg Line video soon!
Excellent

Awesome catches, but what happened to 91?
I wouldn't be surprised if they actually park that diesel in the street on occasion to get breakfast at the diner
Yeah, the diner is really good, I am sure they've eaten there a lot!
@@CentralPennRailProductions small town traffic jam
Still jealous - wish I could have been there as well! Great footage! Also - was that an AEM-7 on the first Amtrak train?
Thanks Jim, no, just two ACS-64s. Been seeing them run a lot of double enders like that, which, like I said below, is probably from a cab car shortage?
@@CentralPennRailProductions ahhh ok. At a quick glance, it looked like a random AEM-7 on the rear. Oops!! 😂😂😂
So much pain. Insane vid
Thanks man!
Wow! How much did that cost you? Surely made for an awesome video.
An event like this would probably typically go for around $100 per person unless you have a really large group.
@@CentralPennRailProductions Wow! That’s it? That’s unreal! Maybe i’ll have to try it some time. I’ll definitely credit you for the idea if so.
@@CentralPennRailProductions Great day out, lots of fun! How do I sign up for the next outing?
I love that horn. Too bad major railroad lines don't use that horn anymore. That's an old Seaboard Coastline horn
Love the caboose but why isn't it at the end as required? Love the switching engines also.
We had it at the end in the morning when the train faced east but in the afternoon we backed to the end of the line and came west, there's no where to wye the train so we didn't waste the extra time moving it around to get it to the back, just ran the freight cars around it instead. Thanks for watching!
What part of the crew did Dave Farren play on this day?
Where is this located? I must pay them a visit! 👍👍
Sorry I forgot to clarify, Middletown & Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, east of Harrisburg. They run freight sometimes but not often. Public excursions are closed right now due to COVID but I am sure demand will be high when they reopen. But if you go during the day and someone is in the station, they may let you walk around and have a look at the equipment.
How did you do this and how much did it cost? Not trying to invade your privacy or make you uncomfortable, just wondering so I could potentially do it in the future :D
What camera did you use?
Panasonic HC-X1500
I know where that is
new station being built?
Yes
Okay what's the green tanker? Obviously all the cars on the line are vintage but I wanna know what that thing is
It is Ex Reading
@@SJRailroader31 I see
Where were you man? We missed you.
It's been a crazy year, leaving me not much time for editing. I am working on a lot of videos though, so when I get them all done I'll be back in business. I am working on a video now highlighting some of the trains and places I visited this year. Thanks for watching!
Glad you posted, though.
That short line with a museum flava is really amazing. The forest were it runs seems to be nice too. Great motive power roster, with the S6 and the 65 Tonners with their fantastic Nathan '5 Chime' air horns (one of those would be quite nice on the S6 too (. Great quality video.
I'm not from the U S., but over here in my country we also get to have some classic North American motive power. And the sort that it will not be found in active service over there; rare RSC2s from Alco. Here's one in section recently
