      Agree'd. From the standpoint of doing actual truck stuff, like towing a decent trailer more than 100 miles, GM is the only option with the huge battery. Problem is, at some point you have to recharge that huge battery and, even with a 50 amp charger in your home, it will still take a while to get the battery filled back up on one of these. They say the batteries are larger than the hummers 205 kwh pack, and a 50A level 2 charger is "only" putting out 12kw.
      Rivian is also my preference if I wanted a truck to just drive around daily and do some local offroading or whatever. But I don't want a truck for that. I want a truck for towing and offroading wherever I feel like and ICE is still the way to go in that regard.
      For me, EV is still only good for cars and daily drivers.

You could buy a Lexus GX 550 OT with 9k towing for $75k and use the remaining $25k to fill up your gas tank indefinitely. The amount of money you would make investing $25k would pay for your gas indefinitely. This EV is simply a luxury vehicle, for luxury people, who want the look of a truck. Don't try to justify it bro, if you like the truck, great. If you want the truck, go for it. If you can afford the truck, you don't need an electric anyway. Light Concrete Gray, Dark Battleship Gray, Ash Gray, Old Pavement Gray, Gravel Gray, Bleached Wood Gray. At least Chevy is painting their first edition Silverado EV RST in a bold metallic blue that makes the truck pop. Oh, and the $100k price is just stupid, though I put that down to 1) this thing is loaded with every luxe doodad, and 2) we're still in the early adopter phase of the EV market, so prices should come down as economies of scale and better, cheaper batteries take hold.

      I don't see cheaper batteries being a thing for a long time. Tesla has been at it for a long time now and we haven't seen a big impact on price due to batteries. Most of the changes come from removing features/cost cutting or eating into margins. There is still a lack of manufacturing capacity and very little has been done to address it or get ahead. Even if batteries prices half over the next 10 years, that may only reduce the price by 10-15k, but inflation will quickly eat into that.

  • @SolveFixBuild
    @SolveFixBuild Před 23 dny +8

    GM is building a massive battery under all these trucks and isn’t making profit on them. They are addressing range anxiety with brute force engineering. But, as a result, these trucks are heavy and aren’t going to feel very nimble, and they’re going to cost at least $100k. The alternative approach would be to make a leaner, lighter battery pack that charges fast such that fast charging on road trips is quicker and the vehicle is more nimble and costs less.

Level 2: usually 12kW or maxing out at 19.2 kW. (60 amp or 100 amp circuit) Home charging is done usually over 90% of the time. The only information I could find is about 34 miles of range per hour of charging on Level 2 (12kW). I am going to guess around 50 miles of range per hour on the 19.2 kW Level 2. There's a buffer probably built in so how long to charge from empty to full? You call the dealerships and nobody knows anyithing. Sales people have no interest in these vehicles.

    I’m not a huge fan of the front grill or side profile, which looks a lot like a Ridgeline. I’m a little confused at the overall go to market approach by GM, what differentiates this from a Silverado EV? Why did they launch a work truck version of the Silverado but a top trim version of the Sierra? They’re not even differentiated on price much, how much cheaper is the Silverado EV WT? This is not how you take market share from ford/tesla/rivian - this is going to give it to them.

    I love how much money Tesla saves when they test their vehicles, because they just take them to actual locations in the real world and test them in actual real places where people are going to go, not controlled test environments like these test tracks. I'm a huge fan of all EV'S. My wife and I really want a Silverado EV either 3 or 4wt model. We are current owners of a 2019 Tesla model 3, and we would love a cybertruck, but right now they are too expensive and I can get a used 3 wt or 4 wt Silverado EV for around $60,000 usd. I am also a reservation holder for an Aptera solar EV when it comes out next year. I probably won't get mine for a couple years. Because my pre-order number is like 50,000 something. But at least I'm on the list.

    The engineer mentioned towing a boat. How does this battery do if you back the truck into saltwater over the hubs (besides rusting out the frame 😅)?

    No spare tire on a truck is criminal. More and more manufacturers are doing it too.

      What portable tire jack can safely support an EV that weighs this much?

      @@koryleach9660 just about any bottle jack on the market...and you only lift one corner, not the entire truck.🙄

    Very futuristic and cool. I hope the 1% enjoy it. I'll wave as they drive by and hope they bought the 10 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty.
