- Hunting Morels along the Canadian River in Oklahoma. How to identify a Morel and how I like to cook them. (Disclaimer) Do not eat any wild mushroom unless you are 100% sure that it is edible. Eating the wrong wild mushroom can be deadly.

Dave thanks for the hunting trip and the recipe. Next segment is Dave in the kitchen.👍🏻 from field to fork!
Thanks Andy! IMHO there's no better way to cook them. And the mashed potatoes side is a must👍
I have made them with a white wine sauce. But the best way to cook is the way we grew up eating them. Cooked in butter.
Yeah. Fried in butter served with mashed potatoes.
You teach me how to forage and I'll teach you bushcraft (camp craft)
Those look really good. Is there a way to keep them when you get a lot like that? Will they keep awhile in the fridge or do you have to cook the whole mess?
I keep them a couple of different ways. Sometimes I will put them in a Ziploc freezer bag filled with water and freeze. Short term I will batter them and place them on a cookie sheet in the freezer and then put them in a freezer bag.
What about dehydrating them? I do this when I hit a good picking day of chanterelle mushrooms. Never tried with morels.
@@Tonaldo1469 I've heard of people doing that, but I haven't tried it personally.
I'll give morels a try in my dehydrator. Let you know if it works. Will have to be next year though. I live in Washington State and the Morel season has passed. March through May here. But, God dang!....Aren't them Morels tasty!
They sure are! After uploading this video I pulled some out of the freezer and fried up a batch. Nothing better 👍
What type of terrain are you in? Is it a Low land spot? I am just Northeast Tulsa and we have some hilly terrain and I’m never sure where to look.
I am in south central Oklahoma. In the areas that I hunt, I find them mostly along creek banks under cedar trees and brush.
Any mushrooms this year what is a good time to start in south east Oklahoma
I found a few this week (first week of April). Right now is a good time to go looking along the creek banks in heavily forested areas.
