    You need to specify what you mean by cube root, especially for this problem where you have the cube root of a negative number.
    The most common definition for the principal value of cube root is the root with the greatest real part (and the 1st quadrant root if there is a tie). This definition results in a complex-valued cube root for negative numbers.
    Alternatively, if you want the answer to this problem to be 2, then you need to specify that the principal value of the cube root of a real-number is always real-valued.
