【DIY】3D-Printed Visual-Guidance Surface-to-Air Rocket (Making)

  • The project aims to achieve precise targeting of a hovering balloon by a model-guided rocket through multi-stage navigation and target recognition technology. After the subsequent flight control code debugging is completed, an aerial shooting test will be conducted at an opportune time.
    The target selected is a red latex balloon with a diameter of 1.5 meters, which will be stably suspended in a predetermined airspace by a quadcopter. The rocket will be launched from a ground launch platform.
    Due to the limitations of the guidance camera's performance, this project adopts a staged guidance strategy. In the initial stage of the launch, the rocket will rely on an inertial navigation system (INS) and a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for trajectory control. Once the target enters the effective recognition range of the camera, the system will automatically switch to vision-based terminal guidance.
    The rocket is powered by the self-developed CPSRM-R-30A micro solid rocket engine.

    This is really good. Instead of staring array configuration you might consider mounting camera to brushless gimbal. And instead of conventional serial kinematic configuration, use a parallel kinematics. Then use the rate gyros to stabilize camera. You would need a decent dsp.
    If you made something larger you could make an inertial platform using control moment gyros.

      Placing a stabilized gimbal would allow for better integration of signal on the seeker head. The motion of the target and maneuvering of the missile can blur the image. The fins are too large for the speed and will require a great deal of torque to move. You might be better served with a double delta canard fin system like the Israeli Python. It also gets the control mechanisms away from the motor. If you motor will only drive it to 400mph or less and it's pointed in the right direction it could work quite well. I know beam rider tech gets fancy fast.
    I think it's a great project for a first attempt. You should look around the world at aero tech and how speed, & acceleration play important roles in design. Maybe a job at Raytheon is in your future!

    • @normangiven6436
      @normangiven6436 Před 10 měsíci +2

      You can get reduction gear assemblies or make them. I saw a later video that you missed your target after it went by, that's the controls not able to get enough action from the control surfaces. If you go to a front steer double canard you use smaller controls in parallel so you can get more action with the torque you have. Half the surface area on each rudder but having two parallel rudders doubles the torque available to each surface. Or go to a faster responding and larger servo motor. Also, a first stage high acceleration short burn motor would help you get up to speed faster and on to the sustainer motor.@@nadhirboukorsi7242

    This is amazing, but i dont think it should even be that complex. For Ukraine their main concern is Orlan-10 drones which really increased in numbers lately, and russians were able to synchronize them with artillery crews so as soon as Ukrainians move or do anything they get pounded with accurate artillery. Orlan is not a fast target, i think it moves at less than 200km/h and it generally circles the area or otherwise stays in the area, so if you manage 200-250km/h speed you can intercept it, i believe. I think something like a Multiplex FunJet or similar flying wing airframe with a hot 6s+ motor and battery setup can manage 200-250km/h, i think the hardest part would be creating a lightweight but effective warhead and detonation method, i'm surprised that Ukrainian (or russian) drone makers still didnt come up with something like that, it can even damage helicopters if it catches one on a head to head course

      I don't think it's that smart to try and 3D print surface-to-air missiles for our warzone, what would be sick is strapping one to a decent UAV and launching air-to-air. Such missile can be much more compact since yes, it is only meant against slower targets, and it will get drone's speed added to the thrust of its engine, however there likely won't be GPS available and that's a problem

    I don't think the author of the video is in the US but for those who are curious, I am not a lawyer so take this with a grain of salt, but as far as I know, this kind of project is legal as long as (a) you don't put explosives on it and (b) you don't intend or attempt to use it as a weapon. In most US states, it would even be legal to make an anti-armor missile if you file the proper federal paperwork (NFA destructive device and explosives licensing) but there is a federal law specifically prohibiting guided surface to air missiles (but as far as I know, only if they are intended as weapons, which hitting a balloon is probably not)

Unless the missile is resistant to electronic interference I wouldn't see any significant advantages over drones other than not requiring as much skill. Modified FPV drones can be relatively cheap (by military standards), and when flown by skilled operators can be very accurate. Drones are usually a lot more portable than rockets.
