Hey everyone,
Some exciting if slightly confusing news today. I (Nick Calandra) founder of Gameumentary, was recently promoted to Managing Editor of Video on Escapist. With this promotion, we're merging Gameumentary over onto Escapist and all of our content will be released exclusively through that platform and channel.
Our content will not be altered in any way and we still have full control over everything we do, now with bigger budgets, better production values and an even bigger audience to share our stories with.
We hope you'll join us along for the ride!

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for your support the past three years. We're super excited to be given this opportunity to take our content to a huge new audience (seriously, we're going from 30,000 - 1.1 million subs). We hope all of you will follow us over to The Escapist as we continue our journey and continue creating new documentaries for years to come.
While it's sad to leave this channel behind, the reality is that financially it just doesn't make sense when presented with this opportunity. Plus, having to run two separate channels myself is way too much work, so consolidating made both financial and logistical sense.
We have big plans. Our next documentary will be filmed later this year and is covering a very well-known indie title. In addition, without spoiling anything, we're looking at doing big things in Europe early next year.
I'm already very active on The Escapist CZcams community channels like I have been here, so if you like everything you've seen from Gameumentary, expect a lot more of that over on Escapist.
Thanks again everyone and we'll see you soon with some exciting new documentary content.

"Escapist as a bigger channel (platform)" Really??? Didn't they had money trouble and had to shutdown, ontop of them being a dying and dead site and platform? Then they recently came back, so i guess they're looking for content creators and channels to boost themselves. Then they also had issues with youtube content creators they hired in the past (not paying them and stealing their ad revenue)? Then they also had bad and click baitey writers, writing hit pieces, akin to what polygon and kotaku put out. So are you changing the culture of this iteration of this Escapist 2.0; is it the same as Escapist 1.0 but with a new veneer of paint? Or are you just strictly putting out and managing CZcams content side of things?
@@knessing7681 That was under previous owners, Defy Media. Enthusiast Gaming owns both Escapist and Gameumentary and have treated us very well. Escapist is going through some major refocusing right now, and I (Nick) am in control of everything video related. From community to producing content.
(seriously, we're going from 30,000 - 1.1 million subs). and then you look at their view counts for their videos, specially the non-big events or non-announcements ... does their view count reflect 1.1 million subs? Sure they have 10k, 70k, and a couple cracking over 100k views (it's nice) but it's not constant. If anything Gameuentary is bringing in fresh blood to Escapist. But good luck with your endevour and venture, and hope you don't end up on the wrong end of the stick like past youtube content creators that partnered or joined up with the Escapist.
@@knessing7681 Our vids may not get ZP views, but it will in the end still draw bigger numbers either way. Instead of our 2 Minute Reviews getting 5-10K views, we'll double that easily with their audience, proven already with our first release.
The Shirley doc is our most successful video and with the rates CZcams provides the channel, still hasn't made its costs back. So that's another thing Escapist gets is higher ad rates so our big docs will make more of their money back, even at a loss. This opens up opportunities for us to cover more subjects like the Miami doc without worrying it won't even crack 1,000 views sorta thing.
Big change to move to Escapist, it didn't come lightly and I wouldn't have made the decision were I not comfortable doing so and without knowing I'd be in control. Once I had those assurances, we decided to make the move.
It won't be popular with our subscribers and we know that, but it's either that or risk not being able to fund the documentaries in the future.
While I respect your choice, I can't back escapist new management or not, somethings I feel can't be forgiven.
I wish you the best of luck.
Be careful! The Escapist has had trouble paying its creators salaries in the past. I would highly recommend that the contract would have a clause that allowed you to release your content anywhere you want 6 months or more after they've been exclusive on the escapist. Otherwise you're leaving yourself too vulnurable.
That was under a different parent company, Defy Media. Enthusiast Gaming now owns Escapist and Gameumentary and we work directly with them daily. There will be no issues like this. Thanks for your concern though!
so the escapist channel is now going to have 2 great review series.
Hah, yes. I was thinking the same thing.
Alrighty will do! Congrats in the new job! ....6 months ago lol
I only recently found both Gameumentary and the Escapist and gladly subbed to both. Looking forward to how things progress with your forces combined!
This seems like a great deal for you guys.
You deserve the bigger audience that Escapist has.
What happens now? :c
Congratulations, Nick! I'll see you over at The Escapist!
Awesome news. I look forward to seeing your new content over on escapist. Keep up the great work.
After my feed got spammed hard by Escapist uploading a dozen videos at once, I unsubbed from them. I don't care about anything on their channel other than ZP and his vids get recommended to me on the Home tab regularly so it works. While you'll hopefully get more views going with Escapist, I don't plan to resub to them. I'm sure I'll still watch your videos with the same frequency I do now, I just won't see them in my sub box.
Same here, all the best to them though. Well-deserved 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Why do you need to to fed content, just bookmark, or use a tab for the Videos page, and you will see everything uploaded, without an algorithm deciding what you will watch.
Good stuff. Always rooting for content creators to get opportunities like this.
I don't want escapist videos to spam my subscription feed. So I have to pass. I wish youtube would allow subscription to specific shows/playlists.
We will still update our playlists here on this channel with new documentaries as they are released. Not sure if that sends a notification or not, but we will still communicate using this channel if all you want are the docs via the community tab and potentially some quick video updates.
Yeah, same. Since this channel will not receive new content, I am unsubscribing. Sadly.
i dont really see how you can "pass".
@@Gameumentary Maybe you can make short easy text only teaser video uploads that have link in the description to the Escapist's channel. That way I don't need to sub to them (I wouldn't anyway, too noisy there) and you'd still keep this channel relevant if things go south with the escapist in the future.
@@guy3nder529 It means I'll not subscribe to Escapist.
Congrats to you all.
"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." - Gameumentary
Only half-kidding, I see why it makes sense from your perspective. Must have been a hard decision to make. I unfortunately won't be subbing to The Escapist though. I need a better reason than Gameumentary being on there to trade off having my sub box filled with content I don't enjoy or agree with. Maybe that seems petty, but there's so many quality channels on CZcams that have my attention already, it's hard to keep up as is. If there was a way to filter only your videos showing up in my sub box, or The Escapist's overall quality got significantly better, then I would change my mind. But for now, all I can hope for is that I remember to check in on you guys every once in awhile, like with Brian David Gilbert on Polygon. But I get that it's purely business so no hard feelings. Just wish there was a way to get more exposure and funding without alienating part of your audience that supported you from the beginning. Cheers though and good luck!
We're working on other video content with new personalities as well on Escapist. It'll be up to our quality standards and take the channel in a new direction while continuing fan favorite shows as well. First one we're working on is a fun new games analysis series.
Good luck and thanks for the content!
THREE MINUTES!? ARE YOU NUTS!?
Not subscribing to that channel because of how many unwanted videos that are NOT your videos are spammed. I don't ever click Related Videos, so I guess this is goodbye. It was great while it lasted
Same. Time to find a better CZcamsr
OK!
Congrats on the partner ship. I'm sad that you won't be posting to this channel anymore. I don't plan to subscribe to The Escapist anytime soon. I only want to watch your guys videos. Good luck.
Ohh i see that's what happened
A lot of dislikes but I'm glad for you all, best of luck!
Thanks! Dislikes were to be expected, Escapist has a not so great history, but thankfully we have a big say in how things move forward.
Hmm I would have kept the seperate identity and kept this going tbh
This sucks, everyone that goes to the escapists goes to shit. I am suspect how long you will have control of your content. Good luck guys.
Are the documentaries officially dead now? I subscriped the new channel but there wasn't a single new documentary in one and a half year. Just their regular vids (in which I'm not interessted) ...
RIP Gameumentary
Nope not dead, we couldn't do the full docs because we couldn't travel, but we're starting back up the mini-docs very soon. Actually just secured our first subject and will begin working on it next week. We also released Darkest Dungeon and Insurgency docs before the pandemic began, maybe you missed those?
@@Gameumentary That's good to know. Thanks for the reply.
GVMERS won the gameumentary wars
😥😥😥

Hard pass
no thanks
time to unsub then, The Escapist is pure garbage
I mean, we're literally the ones running the show now on the video side of things. Lots of changes happening.
@@CaptPonyholder The EIC stepped down a few months ago. The Escapist is currently changing direction quite a bit and we have a role to play in that. We'll have more updates to share soon, but I'm in charge of all video content now. - Nick
@@CaptPonyholder But you'd be okay if they wete far right like Dave Rubin. Gotcha
@@CaptPonyholder i thought one angry gamer was alright, what happened? I remember his articles being posted on r/KiA as trusted source
Unsubscribed it is, thank you for letting know.
Sorry guys, I'm going to unsubscribe, you were doing true journalism & unbiased coverage of games development (i especially liked KCD and Divinity series videos) , now under anti-gamer superiors from escapist you would lose that creative freedom that you had before, shame journalism has to be profitable to exist (and we have today's outrage journalism and SJWs as post effect of that)
Farewell and good luck
Respect your decision, but I’m managing the content now on The Escapist and we’re going to be making the same kind of content we’ve been doing here.
I don't know tbh. I love you guys but I really don't like that zero punctuation show because they basically just say the most basic shit about games. I'll keep an eye out for your vids but I won't be subbing, sorry
