Jealous and boring individuals. I like how Billy said he had the balls to do what he loves and inspire people which is exactly what's going on today. He's not showbusiness he's rock n roll 💯🔥🔥🔥 His music was superb, he had every right to have his head in the clouds he lived a great life on his own terms. I truly love his music.
What a beautiful interview, he's brilliant and smart He's a man with an endless goal, as honest today as they come and nobody has changed him, he evolves, he is the perfect description of what rock and roll is ❤
Andy Kershaw comes across as a bit of a spiteful nob here, whilst Billy Idol is actually quite sweet, charming and child-like, and stuck to his guns throughout the interview. Never ceased to amaze me that back then, aspiring for something beyond the instantly-dead punk rock ethos was considered a sell-out. Billy’s solo hits still sound great to this day. He was having fun and was and still is a great performer.
My gosh, the Betamax quality is superb, SKC makes good stuff and I love this channel and I'm 18 and I love music and outdated tech. Greetings from America!
Glad you enjoy it! When I first bought SKC tapes over 36 years ago, I was worried about the quality, but they have lasted better than quite a few far more expensive tapes. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Kershaw makes no effort to hide his contempt for him and its true his lost a lot of credibility when he when to the States but it worked out well for him so fair play. He does a good interview with Tony James on Steve Jone's radio show. Anyhow King Rocker was the first single I bought, still love it.
He lost a lot of credibility? To whom? I think it's fairly obvious that he actually GAINED credibility moving to the US. As a Canadian kid, I certainly never knew of him when he was living in the UK. I only went to his back catalogue AFTER Rebel Yell, when I wanted more (more more) of his music. I was pleasantly surprised. How can't you respect him for what he did? Just like what he was saying. Do you expect him to just be sitting around at pubs in the UK while punk disappears and he becomes irrelevant? He went on to make great music in the States. I'd rather that than him being some grumpy old waste-case trying to be "credible" to a bunch of boring old Brits. Good on him for going with the flow and pairing up with Steve Stevens.
@@alukuhito Dude I love Billy Idol but was more of a Generation X fan. Anyway I guess the answer to your question are sections of the British music press early 80's.
Billy is Billy, always entertaining, but massive props to that interviewer; love that he challenges Billy then gives him as much time as he needs to respond as he likes. Rock solid!
whiplash smile.....is a Good album, but i wouldnt say it is exciting, its actually a very mellow record with the exception of a few edgy, rocking songs. I do still enjoy it though, his voice is very dynamic on that album
Whiplash Smile is "poppier" than its predecessor (Rebel yell), but has more different styles I think. And yeah, the three heavy, agressive tracks ("World's forgotten boy" , "Fatal charm", and to a certain extent "Soul standing by"), are very, very solid. A good, but not great album. The only very weak and bland song here being "All summer single" in my opinion.
The interviewer is bizarre, aggressive and annoying way of asking questions. Northern accent makes it sound comedy tho even tho he’s trying to do a “hard hitting” interview hahah
Billy was / is very bright but the drugs stunted it for a while. I think he had a nasty streak while doing the heroin. He was a bad boy but likeable , I guess.
@@dreadfulspiller8766 It certainly is, I checked and Khans has a part missing, at the same area as Billy's, he must be a fan. You think? I guess I'm a fan as well, my son and I have met Robert Picardo, the doctor in Voyager, a few times here in Scotland.

The hostile (Doogie Houser style-as in looks like a kid) interviewer is a complete JERK!
So much intelligence and true personality in this lad. He’ s a real rocker .

Love the way Billy is so honest and confident in himself. He doesn't engage in Kershaws slimey & cynical interview technique. Lovely chap 🤟

Oh a good first buy as a single, much more credible than mine, which shall not be discussed 🤣
Valley of the dolls

There more than a hint of Rik from the Young Ones here
Yeah I see what you mean, never thought about it until now. 😆

Today I learned he's English
Really? Did you think he was American?
Great video, I learnt he is more than likely ADHD(as am I) - which could explain his honesty, empathy etc....
Is that your diagnosis, DOCTOR?

The guy doing the interview, Andy Kershaw, IS being a dick to Billy!🤢
Oh Billy, don’t want to look like you’re at a bar every night so you went to NYC where you were at a bar every other night. 😂
Well....He was NEW in NYC...he needed to MEET people there!
