- the Grumman F6F Hellcat is carrier-based fighter aircraft of WWII, first flight 6/26/1942, producted 12,275 by Grumman, powered by a 2000hp Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Swasp engine. Flew at Camarillo Airshow, Camarillo CA.
I love this plane Good enough in every respect, the best in many ways.
The Hellcat kept it's pilots alive, mission after mission. Good girl.
The roar of 2000 horses from this hellcat. and just wonderful
Wildcat held the line, Hellcat finished the job. They actually produced the Wildcat F2 until the end of the war because the Hellcat wouldn't fit on escort carriers.
Wildcat is super underrated. I actually think the Hellcat was too good for it's purpose. What they really needed was something substantially better than the Wildcat but in production sooner. Imagine if they'd had something nearly as good as the Hellcat at Santa Cruz.
@@kurtwpgI think it was overrated. You had to crank up/down the landing gear with a hand crank and bicycle chains! Seriously?!!!
@catlady8324 That feature probably didn't decide a lot of dogfights. Likely also weighed less than a hydraulic system.

Great looking plane: the Hellcat!!
Great vid!
“He dropped a bomb!”
This bird is so underrated
easily one of the best planes in the war
