It's gonna be so epic. I love a great, massive western!
I’m hesitant to be excited about a western that has a totally new take on the western theme! We had a few of those that were complete disasters! Taylor Sheridan, Ridley Scott & Kevin Costner have really good track records, so I’ll follow the talent & wait for their productions! Hollywood’s version of the West has always been fairy tallish, and not historically based. Frankly, I prefer the Hollywood version!
I was excited for the Emily Blunt movie until they said the Rock was going to be involved.
Empire of the Summer Moon is one of the best books ever written. If the movie is half as good it will be amazing!!!
The harder they fall was fantastic. I can’t wait for the next one! We need more of this kind of movie!!

Excited by the prospect of all. However, 'Blood Meridian' is top of my most wanted list. The book is a great literary work and deserves to be filmed. It reflects a very dark period in American history but I think the studios have been using the violent content as something of a smokescreen. It could be a costly production and they are worried about audiences. It could get great critical acclaim but not do well at the box office. In the 1970s studios were bolder as we got 'The Wild Bunch', 'Soldier Blue' and others.
Viggo Mortensen's The Dead Don't Hurt looks like it will be good as well.
I saw it. It's a good romantic movie with some western themes.

I loved the first one but the whole Brushy Bill Roberts story is fantasy stuff so it kinda kills my interest. Part 2 wasn't great and 3 is bound to be a cash grabbing shit pile.

What ever happened to Zahler's Brigands Of Rattleborge? McConaughey was on board for a minute, but haven't head anything more.
I don't care for Alexander Payne so I'll pass on his version of the west. I do like Emily Blunt's western, The English, so I will definitely give it a try. Horizon, Kevin Costner's movie project, is a definite must watch. I'm not sure about the others - maybe...maybe not...

It'll be a tall order to be as rough as Billy the kid lol
The Barry Keoghan "Billy The Kid" movie sounds AMAZING!!! I have wanted to see a more grounded and historically accurate telling of Billy and I think Barry is perfect for the role! On the other hand - Young Guns 3 sounds horrible and Emilio needs a history lesson. Billy lived a short and violent life that ended at age 21.
Actually Billy’s true history usually says he was awesome so they will go with the idea that everyone is shitty and make him look bad. It will suck. They’ll try to do the opposite of legend which was mostly true and they’ll make him look bad again. Or they’ll do the woke thing and he’s both.
The problem with Ridley Scott (although I do like his movies for the most part) is the historical inaccuracies. The opening battle sequence of Gladiator was awful! I even saw a German barbarian with a horned helmet! And fire-arrows were not a thing--at least not as much as portrayed by Hollywood. And using siege weapons as artillery in a pitched battle... how'bout NO! Oof, I could go on all day! 😂
I love wester movies .. but NONE compare to LoneSome Dove. My all time favorite western!!!

The first showing of a hand gun in use was a joke, it showed a single action weapon fired as a double action.

I grew up in the area of southern New Mexico where Billy the kid was active (the state continues to have that outlaw mentality) so I’m hoping that there is Spanish in the movie to make it accurate, because all the historians agree that Billy spoke the language and hid among the Spanish speaking people, that’s why he was successful in running from the law.
Well is Young Guns Three set to be a prequel to Young Guns Two, because I thought Lou Diamond Phillips character (Chavez) died in YG 2. And I have no interest in any of these, with maybe the exception of Empire Of The Summer Moon, maybe. Looks to be a very disappointing year for any really good westerns.

Sorry, have to disagree. I loved 1883. And I think WIND RIVER is at *least* as good as HELL OR HIGH WATER. And I do love that movie.
So wrong. 1923, 1883, the remaining Yellowstone episodes, even mayor of Kingstown are excellent and far more satisfying than H&HW.
