  • 2x Olympic Champion and now 3x British Olympian James Guy spoke with SwimSwam after it came to light over the weekend that 23 Chinese swimmers had tested positive for TMZ in January of 2021.
Early in the week, Guy had tweeted "Ban them all and never compete again" and expressed similar frustration today, namely in WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) for allowing such a situation to occur.

Ok, so I'm not an expert.
I'm confused about the test results. I would think if one did use the banned substance, their tests would consistently show as positive during the competition period, right? They were saying these same swimmers had multiple tests done during Tokyo Olympics, some tests showed positive, other times negative, for same swimmers. Does that mean anything?

Pimples on the back of certain athletes, testicular tumours and previous history involving Nike, Lance Armstrong, Alberto Salazar - most are clear when tested but later were caught when they were exposed by their own 'friends'. I don't deny Russia/ China might be doping their athletes, but so are the West.

Also the whole point of TUE's is to help athletes who have a medical condition which would otherwise compromise their athletic performance vs other athletes who do not suffer from said medical condition. They are supposed to help level the playing field, not give an athlete an advantage over another. If you are not aware of the process involved to apply for an exemption then i don't think you are qualified to make this sport of opinion.
