I found DIMASH by accident. I was looking in YT for a singer I guess? And a thumbnail popped up with DIMASH'S photo & the caption- "WORLD'S BEST VOICE"! (Or maybe "singer"). So I clicked to SOS 2017 "I AM SINGER" Chinese competition show. I thought he was Korean. But then he sang in French (I could read some of the subtitles) on what appeared to be a Chinese t.v. show? I thought why is he singing a French song on a Chinese show? And why did they invite KPOP to compete? Weird? After 5 NOTES I knew, without a doubt he was the best singer on the planet. The G.O.A.T.!! And at one point he has his arm overhead while singing, and I had never seen a singer do that and look up to the ceiling? So I checked the lyrics and realized HE WASN'T JUST A SINGER, DIMASH IS A STORYTELLER! GOBSMACKED is an understatement. He interpreted the song like an ARIA. MASTERFUL. That was 2018. Once you're a DEAR there's no going back.
    More DIMASH 🙏!!

So, Dimash is never "cocky". He is way too humble for that, but he DOES love delivering to the audience every single performance. He has said that he could care less how many octaves he has as long as his audience is satisfied with his performance. He is EVERYTHING. NO ONE compares to him. NO ONE.

Dimash sang almost all genres. He has so much songs and mostly he sang the songs in his concerts always a little bit different. Dimash is a real artist (singer intrumentalist, composer) and a great entertainer on stage. His Dears love him around the world. Today he was on stage in Budapest/Hungary. In the performance of "Unforgettable day" at the Gakku festival you can hear his highest note.

Dimash is confident in his music but if you ever sat down with him to talk, you will find the kindest and modest person you ever met! The man whose face was in the dark was his father. He had flown in from Kazakhstan without Dimash knowing to surprise him. Dimash starting classically training for voice and piano at age 5. He won his first competition for piano at age 5. He has a masters degree in music this is no ordinary singer you are watching here and please DO NOT COMPARE HIM TO MARIAH CAREY!!!!! For some reason people feel they must compare him to someone and that someone is Mariah. Do not compare him to anyone! His is Dimash and that is enough! He plays several instrument, he sings in several languages but he only is fluent in Kazakh and Russian. A few years ago he started to learn English and he’s getting better every year. His accent is still strong when speaking it but I believe he understands better than he speaks. In case you didn’t know Dimash is from Kazakhstan. His idols have been Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Lara Fabian, Michael Jackson, and many others. He is not only musical but he his also very intelligent. He composes, Produces, a lot of his own music. A prominent Russian composer named Igor Krutoy came out of retirement to write songs for Dimash. When you see a ball-headed man playing piano that is Igor playing one of his songs. His family is very musical, too! 😊❤️

The 500 members of the audience at this competition of I am singer 2017 are the judges! The other people they show are presenters or Dimash's competitors! Yes, he can sing in every genre! I am with you when it comes to discovering Dimash. You feel like you've entered a whole new world. This was the second song that he sang in the contest. He was feeling very homesick, because he's used to having a lot of family around him. The man in the audience was his father. After this song, his mother or father were always with him. He was the youngest contestant ever. He couldn't win, because he was not born in China. There was such a huge protest that they changed the rule and apologized to Dimash. The year after his entry, anyone could win.

You are not over reacting. I completely empathize with the "smelling burnt toast" feeling.
This is the only performance where Dimash moves from playful to "cocky showman". Easy to understand. He is 22 and in the last week he went from anonymous singer to security guards and crowds of screaming fans everywhere he went.😎
Bound to raise a young mans confidence into the cheeky realm.😅😂😂😂😉
I suggest that you skip Smoke for now. Go for "Stranger"/ New Wave to for a burnt toast fry.😂😂😂 (pause, replay parts, caution for copyright on this song😏)

Dimash´s highest note yet is a D8, which you can hear in his song "Unforgettable Day" ONLY in the Gakku concert! I recommend not reacting to "Smoke" yet because it is somehow similar to this one. His new song "When I've got you" would be a better choice for a different genre. Otherwise Stranger is always a good choice! BTW, I don't think you are overreacting: I see surprise and enthusiasm, which is good.

This performance is a cover of the song, Opera 2, by the famous Russian performer, Vitas. Vitas scored numerous awards for this original song. It is famous throughout Europe and Asia. If you check out any of the Vitas versions, his delivery is very high - many equate his tonality to that of a dolphin. Which is why so many people in this audience were exceptionally eager to see what Dimash was going to do with this very well-known song. And, Dimash did not disappoint the audience, or the other competitors.

First of all, I don't think you are overreacting. Your facial expressions seem sincere. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads, RnB and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. Mainly classic and pop, so he created a new crossover genre. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages.
Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas.
The song is very famous and popular in China. And it's no opera song. That’s just the name of the song. The audience already knew what to expect, but were very surprised when Dimash raised the pitch three times. Vitas but only once.
The man who raises his fist in the air at the end is Dimash’s father. He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed.
I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle in this country and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 21 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional.
By the way the audience is also the jury and the people backstage are the other competitors.
During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰.
I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree. I think what's happening today in the world worries him a lot.
If you might want to see the whole video, especially the meeting with his father, privately, her is the link.
    Opera2: czcams.com/video/BPXTsTr4BwE/video.html
    I would recommend Stranger.
But you have to be careful with this video. It gets blocked a lot.
    Stranger: czcams.com/video/lFsB5HVnmSA/video.html
Here you can hear a large part of fhis vocal range, as well as an incredibly awesome Kazakh instrument. The Kobys. The man who often plays the kobys in Dimash’s performances is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it.
He hit his highest note in Unforgettable Day.
Dimash wrote this song when he was 19 years old and the lyrics were written by Oral Baissengir in his native language Kazakh. This performance was in Kazakhstan (Gakku TV is a Kazakh television channel. I heard there were about 150,000 spectators and the city center had to be completely closed). There he hit his highest note so far, his famous D8. You don't need to look for this note on the piano, the keys weren't enough for that anymore. Some say the tone isn't exactly pleasing to the ear, but it doesn't make it any less spectacular. Incidentally, Dimash himself said that this was not actually intended. He probably wanted to sing his "normal" G#7, but when he did, no sound came out of his throat. When he started again, the C8 came and then the D8.
A 5 second accident with vibrato😂. Only Dimash can do this. And then he continues as nothing has happened.
Some joke that he actually sang a higher note, but realized that we earthlings can’t hear notes that high, so he “only” sang the D8😉.
    Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️

He did _blend_ pretty much every genre, pop, jazzy, kazakh folk, bit of rap, rock, operatic, ballad. Can`t wait to see you check out some other songs. From The Singer show it`s REALLY worth checking out "The Show Must Go On" (Queen). His english is completely broken, but his performance is stunning. Highest note : D8, off the piano : "Unforgettable Day" - GAKKU performance specifically. It`s a whistle note. In soprano register, non-whistle, it`s E6. He can reach F6 too, but I don`t think he used it in songs. His whistle notes are E7, F7, F#7, G7.
From present day, "El Amor En Ti" has the biggest range I think, in the coolest presentation. He has many songs without much range too. Some of the Kazakh ones are closest to his heart and they don`t have much range, but you see his heart there the most.
Love your videos so much :) Can`t wait for more :)
Don`t worry about some comments, the fandom is huge and has everything in it lol
About technicalities : he did use autotune for effect, in younger performances, and in China for a metallic sound. For actual correction, there was some minor pitch correction after the fact in some performances that were meant to be published. During the Russia years, when he was breaking into that market, everything televised had to be pre-recorded. There are things like that here and there. But regardless of the industry`s "tools", to me he is the most fascinating artist, with an endlessly fascinating musical mind. And he does have the most extensive array of tools, even discounting his range. He text-paints with his voice like no one else.
For all live performances, The Singer competition has it. You should definitely watch "Diva Dance", a song from a movie ("Fifth Element"), he did it live on The Singer. And there are 2 more versions of it, Bastau concert, and mixed into "Drunken Concubine" in a duet with another chinese counter-tenor. All versions are short, and awesome 😁 It has those starts and stops you mentioned in this one, called "staccato", tapping notes separately, but at boss level. Opera style.
"Autumn Strong" (Kiev 2020) is a gorgeous live song in concerts. "Mademoiselle Hyde" (Kiev 2020) is another one. Pretty much all "SOS"s are live, Kiev 2020 again is a gorgeous version, heartbreaking with the visuals on the stage screens.
He is not a robot, he is not superhuman, he messes up (slightly) sometimes, he has off days, his english fails him sometimes :)) But his voice live sounds gorgeous, vividly beautiful comparing to any studio recordings. The studio stuff has it`s own beauty too, as he can play with more intimate vocal textures that wouldn`t sound the same on a stage mic.
Some of his songs are so complex that they cannot withstand full live stage performance, not in between dancing, sweating under stage lights, among other 24 songs, or between a flight, an interview in a foreign country, and shooting an MV. His extensive training is not for performing perfectly like a robot live, but to maintain range and all the vocal textures and techniques that he has.
Nevertheless, they are musical masterpieces that I could not do without.
When he was younger, he performed live while sick, an example is "Daybreak" (The Singer - G Wu channel video for full story), where he lost his voice completely, but still went on stage, sang heartbreakingly beautiful while he felt like he had broken glass in his throat and his hands were shaking. He performed with a fever in London, he refused lip-sincyng and sang acapella in China, just half a song, for the fans who waited for him a long time "to hear his real voice", after he had been coughing blood backstage.
Luckily, he is not doing stuff like that anymore. He is being a bit more pragmatic in recent years, and I`m happy about it.
The only thing that matters to me is that he has and maintains his vocal tools to paint many more musical stories in the future.
And to what his gorgeous musical mind will come up with next, is what I look forward to the most. Especially since he is composing more and more of his songs in recent years.

How he trained? Dimash knew since he was little that he wanted to become a singer. His parents were both singers and his grandparents who raised him also sang and played the dombra. Apart from music lessons, he indeed joined the school choir, as all young boys, he sang soprano. But then, when he hit puberty and the boys all moved to tenor, baritone, or bass, the soprano section became very weak. The conductor asked Dimash to stay in soprano, which he did reluctantly, not wishing to stay either girls. But now he is thankful for that, since it allowed him to continue developing his soprano voice while concurrently working in his tenor voice. Later, while studying classical singing at the Aktobe Music College, he would work on extending his higher range despite his teacher's warning not to. To date, his highest recorded note is a D8. (the D over the edge of the right side of the piano) He inadvertently sang it in Unforgettable Day at the Gakku Music Festival in 2017.

I found Dimash purely by accident a little over a year ago. I clicked on a reaction video to SOS that showed up in my feed and the rest is history. I've been obsessively watching/listening to every performance of his that I can get my greedy little hands on ever since! 😆

  • @MichaelReiter
    @MichaelReiter Před měsícem +6

His highest note so far has been a D8 that you can hear in this performance: czcams.com/video/u52XDilf628/video.html
He probably goes higher when he sings to dolphins. 😂
Dimash truly is an amazing talent and currently the best singer. Although Dimash doesn't use auto-tune, some people don't understand that shows use auto-tune even on great singers, at least in post-production. There was a vocal coach that analysed the SOS performance and showed that running one of the belting parts through the computer with auto-tune off and on didn't change the wave form at all, that means, it was auto-tuned. I don't find this specific video anymore, but there is another one by Wings of Pegasus: czcams.com/video/OBk7BnIA12c/video.html
May I suggest another artist for your channel: Forestella - a male crossover vocal quartet from South Korea. They are known as "The Kings of Harmony". Their cover of Scarborough Fair would be a great start: czcams.com/video/NWo1l3w69Ng/video.html (If you plan to react to it, please use a transparencey filter or soemthing like that to avoid a YT block).
Enjoy your Dimash journey. BTW, I vote for Stranger as next reaction.

You should react to both, but if you want to see Dimash sing in different ranges, different timbres, different styles, different tones and take you on a journey, all in one song, then Stranger should be next. If you are curious to see something more in the pop vein (and Dimash dancing!) the Smoke performance video would fit that bill. Either one will not disappoint.
BTW, if you were impressed with his brief staccato in this song, you should check out his Diva Dance (blue alien song from the Fifth Element electronically manipulated in the movie and thought to be impossible for a human to sing) from the Bastau concert. It’s very short so maybe you can slip it into your next reaction. Guaranteed to blow your mind.

Te recomiendo Stranger, The Love of Tired Swans en El Kremlin, Ikanaide, Battle of Memories 2023, El Amor en Ti, When I've got You, Adagio, y Love is Like a Dream, solo para seguir. You should watch the rest of this competition in China in 2017. Especially Adagio, really fantastic. If you want to know more about him see The Ultimate Guide to Dimash done by LiLaSi. You will hear him say that his octave range is not important, the most important thing to him is that the audience likes the performance and it takes them away from the everyday for a while.
I guess you can say it did. But, please remember hitting a high note is not what makes him great, its his humilty, his high moral standards, his love of family, friends and his Dears. He is also anti-war and an ambassador for peace.

Said family, friends, neighbors were running all over Kazakhstan buying clothes, he's 6'2", not easy ! and overnighting them !! in a call he said if possible he'd like several colors in each to choose from. What did you say ? the interviewer asked She smiled demurely, looked straight into the camera and said. No.

If you enjoy his vocal acrobatics, I suggest the Diva Dance from the Bastau concert. If you know the film "The Fifth Element", it's the fast part of song the alien sings. It may not be long, but oh boy is it impressive!
Side note, he can go even higher than that, he famously hit a D8 in Unforgettable Day in his performance at Gakku.

Hi I loved your reactions... To answer your question...
Dimash is from Kazakstan and he is 6'3 tall lol... his family is musical, his mother and father are singers and he has a younger brother and sister, he started singing and piano lessons at the age of 5, he studied Opera, bel canto), Pop, jazz, musical theatre (this is not in order lol) he is also a multi-instrumentalist. He sings in 13 to 14 languages but speaks around 3 or 4 (He is struggling to learn Mandarin but he is trying very hard) (Also as a side note: in his early music he struggled with English as most of the time he had to rush to learn the song to perform in the competition, so you will hear him mispronounce a few words but that shouldn't detract from his music and voice, he is fluent now as you will hear. At least I understand him)
His lowest notes as far as I know and I could be wrong is either A1 or F2 his highest note (and no I am not making this up) is D8. Igor Krutoy (a famous composer) came out of retirement to compose for Dimash after seeing him perform.
On top of all that his a kind person that tries to help when he can, he is goofy and fun, he's playful as well but he knows when to be serious and professional at the same time when needed, he always thanks the people working for him during his performances as you will see and his is really grateful this fans and the people that work for him.
Now to your other question about songs.. There are so many...
Mr Hyde is a good one but I would probably recommend watching Lara Fabian first and then Dimash because in my opinion when you do that it sounds like a call-and-response situation. Mademoiselle Hyde then My Hyde that, would be super fun to watch also the lyrics slightly change to fit the person singing (I would love to see you react to them at the same time) This was written by Igor Krutoy and Lara Fabian. (You will notice Igor Krutoy pop up a lot)
Stranger, again it would be nice to see you react to both versions Stranger (New Wave) he was well and Stranger Shine! Super Brothers Dimash was sick (also sickness won't stop him unless it's extreme) you could do the same with DayBreak in the competition Dimash was sick but at the Bastau concert, he was well. You can compare his vocals and be surprised lol.
Across Endless Dimensions (Soundtrack to the Italian movie Creators: The Past, the director composed the music and had to use 3 different singers for the Demo to reach close to Dimash's range)
Autumn Strong aka Ikanaide.. Both songs (Dimash almost never sings songs the same way lol) Autumn Strong was at the competition and sung in Mandarin and Ikanaide was sung in Japanese)
Olimpico (Sung in Italian composed by Igor Krutoy)
Ave Maria (No not Schubert, Bach-Gounod or Mascagni, this one was written by Igor Krutoy. It's different, it bugs me when people say oh yes it's that one only slightly different...)
Liubov, pokhozhaia na son (Song by Dimash Qudaibergen and Igor Krutoy)
Your Love (By Igor Krutoy, see I told you he would pop up a lot)
Unforgettable Day The Gakku performance (if you want to hear the D8) (There is a small story with this one too I will write it next time if you want this is already a book of a post lol)
Screaming (both live and Music video)
    Lubov ustavshikh lebedei (Igor Krutoy)
WeekEnd as well it was a collaboration with Burak Yeter a Turkish-Dutch DJ, record producer and remixer. It's summery and a simple song but I enjoyed it.
Omir (you would enjoy the live version with his Brother playing the Guitar)
Sinful Passion, Adagio (a Lara Fabian song)
Znay (There is a story with this one too. initially, it was Vocalize (Ascolta la Voce meaning listen to the voice in Italian) (Lara Fabian sang this also Igor Krutoy song)
Requiem: The story of One Sky (performed and composed by Dimash and lyrics by Lilia Vinogradova)
War and Peace, Give me Love, Be with Me (Music video and live), Dadidau (there is a story there if you want to look it up.)
Passione (Igor Krytoy sung in Italian) Zhalyn, Okay, When I've got you, new one just released) Smoke (new just released) I miss you, Qairan Elim, Together (composed by His brother)
There are so many others but this is super long already I'll let others chime in. Again loved your reactions looking forward to see more.

Although Dimash is against autotune, his big live performances are pitch corrected. I've seen audio engineer where he breaks it down and shows the lines that were pitchcorrected. But from time to time Dimash does live frome his studio and there you can hear the raw voice. Is still increadible, but more human. For example in Sos he takes out those b2 because he is not comfortable with them, so rather than butchering notes he avoids the extremes he is doin on big shows. I love Dimash he is smart ❤
