Dimash came in second. Yes, those are the competitors. The competition is for professionals. Dimash at the time was the youngest competitor on the show. He was invited as a wild card. They really didn’t expect him to last past the first or second week. He blew up so much after his first performance of SOS they sent bodyguards to his hotel.
He actually won but the rules were that you had to be Chinese. They later apologized to him and changed the rules the next tear

He did not win and came in 2nd by one point. It was a 3 month competition I believe and he lost IMHO due to a sub par performance of uptown funk. Otherwise he would have won because all of his other performances was amazing. But this show launched his career because he gained a lot of recognition from it and is loved by the people of China. Dimash is the best ever and you should watch the entire competition and see the competitors also. All were accomplished professionals for quite some time and some were and are legends in China. So he did amazing well. Look at him now. His fame will grow and grow because he is that good. I will probably never see anyone as good as him in my lifetime.

Dimash is the king of staccato and vibrato and any existing vocal techniques of various musical genres and styles. This song is kind of ironic and humoristic, but usually for me Dimash is first of all the most soulful, emotional and moving performer on this planet.
It's nice that you watched until the end of the video, Dimash's face when he sees his dad is priceless and asking him twice if he sang well shows how humble he is. THANK YOU FOR THIS REACTION YOU MADE ME HAPPY.

Alone in China for months, not speaking the language and only an interpreter and a coach, used to his extended family under one roof, his parents became concerned about the increasing loneliness in his phone calls. His Dad flew over to surprise him ànd sat in the audience, the show staff in on it, the camera keeps cutting to him, the man doing the arm pump at the end. Dimash never saw him until he'd finished, was smiling at the audience and his face went blank, he took the stage in 2 bounds, lept off and scooped his Dad 1up in a bear hug, swung him around grinning ear to ear to the delight of all. His Dad never left until another member of the family or close friend could spell him off. Realizing he functions better with familiar people around, to this day, the same thing prevails, someone close always travels with him on any extended trips. He said if he'd known his Dad was in the audience, he never would have been so cheeky !
Dimash came second overall but came out of the whole thing with with the world wide fame. He became friends with a few of the competitors and got invited to some of their own concerts, as they were all established singers. They all fell in love with his humble nature. Dimash said in interview that he wouldn’t have been so cheeky with this song if he knew his father was there.

That performance of Adagio is Dimash's most unrestrained performance of anything, ever. It is of extraordinary intensity and emotional power and it will leave you incredulous.
Autumn Strong is a Chinese rewrite, with different lyrics, of a famous Japanese song "Ikanaide". He performs it wonderfully and the interest of his performance of it is all the greater because of the very different and even more refined and accomplished performance of Ikanaide he gave (in Japanese) four years later at the 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival.

It carries it in the genes, a Dynasty of artists. His paternal grandfather was a musician who played the Dombra, his wife, that is, Dimash's grandmother was also a singer when she was young but later her profession was a school teacher. Dimash's parents met at the Art and Culture Unit since they were young. Before Dimash was born, they already sang, usually in duet. Her father sings normal, chest voice but her mother is a soprano. When she sings with her husband, she has to drop octaves to match the husband. Now they have parked their profession. His father is his manager and producer. The mother, when her son does concerts, her son has the custom that the day before or after the concert, they meet with the dears so that they get to know each other and the mother, so humble, talks to everyone and in the last meeting, her father played the Dombra and his mother sang with all dears. sharing with them
And there are many people who don't know him or haven't heard of him and the reason is that they're independent and don't have a big and well-known label that promotes them. By word of mouth and the youtubers that react. The family has its own production company called: Dimashali. They are three brothers. Dimash, the oldest of 29 years, his sister Rasuhan who sings very well, is 22 years old but she is studying Medicine. At concerts, she is the one who is dedicated to putting the lyrics of the songs in the repertoire on the teleprompters and each one in the language that sings it, many of which are phonetic and her concerts last three hours or more. His younger brother is called Mansur, he is 16 years old and he is a musician, he plays the piano, electric guitar, etc. He has already finished the conservatory and is already at the Music University like his brother. He has composed the music for a song sung by Dimash called together and they recently released the video clip. He came in second because the first prize is only for Chinese national. It’s the rule of the competition in China. However he won the best foreign singer in Hongkong for performance of the song “ Autumn Strong” ( in Chinese language). DIMASH is magnificent. He is G.O.A.T ( Great of All Time). Dimash became close with his competitors. He was the youngest person ever on the show, They thought of him as a little brother. He still communicates with them. (as far as I know) They're all friends on IG. 😄
They are contestants to I Am A Singer. Everyone are established singers & Dimash is a wild card for this competition. No he didn’t win first place as he a foreigner. Is not true they did not let him win because he is a foreigner. They let that horrible Jessie J from Australia win in the following year. Dimash did not win because of where he is from. A lot of Chinese people who watches these shows will tell you the results are often rigged, the deserving winner rarely get it!
@@cece354 they changed the rules the next year. Most likely because of backlash from the community. They treated Dimash very well. My guess is he knew the results in advance. Dimash himself has nothing bit praise for the singer please think a little about what you say, and how Dimash would feel.
I am 64 years old and I have never heard anyone as brilliant in performance as Dimash. I need to listen to him everyday or I go through withdrawals. In my opinion best singer on the planet. I love watching first reactions to Dimash and John your reactions are fantastic, I love all the little nuances you pick up about Dimash these are the things we Dears see in Dimash as well. Since I learned about Dimash’s unparalleled talent, I too have become “hooked” and eagerly look forward to listening to Dimash for an hour or so every morning! His voice and the music he sings to are like a soothing elixir to me. Long live Dimash! (I’m 77 years old and enjoy every minute I spend with Dimash!)

So sorry John, Dimash did not win. The woman with the black dress on, Sandy Lin, won. There were other singers other than Dimash, who were better than her too. She was the favorite among the audience and the powers that be. Besides, Dimash was invited as a dark horse and they didn't think he would make it past the second round. He was the first foreigner and the youngest in the history of the show to perform. It had previously been a competition only for professional and established Chinese singers. Dimash was only 22 yrs. old and the others were 10-39 yrs. his senior. He did win second place, but they had to save face. Besides, Dimash may not have won the battle but he did win the war. Dimash stayed in China for two yrs. after the show, and they built a state-of-the-art studio for him. He cut his first album there and it went platinum in 37 seconds, and triple platinum in less than an hour. Not bad for second place, right? By the way, I'm waiting for the next Ultimate Guide to Dimash. I have seen all of them, but I do so love your reactions. Thank you so much for the videos. Yes, he goes all the way on the show and there are some songs that you simply must hear and watch him perform. The funny thing is they obviously realized their mistake and changed the way they ran the show. Jessie J won the next year. He definitely won overall, though. The other contestants are quite successful but not really known worldwide.
I think there is some embellishment for the album going platinum in 37 seconds. In a streaming world, people aren’t really buying albums. And all the albums would have to be bought digitally. 100 streams amounts to one download, but originally, it’s units sold. There’s no way that many physical copies of his album were purchased in that short amount of time. In the digital realm though, how many people wait for an album to come out and buy it immediately. Aren’t people at work? Aren’t they doing other things? Or are they sitting and watching a countdown for this? It’s insane. No one in my area of SoCal knows Dimash. I’m the only one apparently and I did buy a physical album of his. Sure, China is huge, along with Russia and Kazakhstan, amongst other countries in that area, that truly adored him. It’s still hard to believe that as the only ones claiming such things are Kazakh news sources and it’s been proven that Kazakh news lies and so do most of these big companies, yellow journalism is wild these days. But still, Kazakh sources are the only ones who claim what you said and others would definitely recognize that, but he is not listed on any other sources.

Dimash is so amazing and talented. If he would just open his mouth you will get convinced there must be a sound he's making, a human ear just can't hear it. 🤣💙

This was one of a number of performances he gave on this 2017 Chinese 'Singer' competition, the first being SOS. He was 23 at that time, and there for a few months, away from his close knit family and was very home sick. It's important to remember that his competitors were all established artists and the audience, not random public, but all industry professionals, so the bar was already set pretty high. Being Dimash, of course, he just soared above. Dimash is a perfectionist about his 'instrument'. There is micro-intentionality with every note and space between. This is not just natural talent, but, as you point out; YEARS of practice. He lands solidly in the exact middle of perfect pitch, at the volume he chooses, and style and tone, and flips with ease between straight tone and vibrato and back again.
Opera 2 is a Vitas original, and this is the only performance of it that Dimash does. Vitas got mad and forbade Dimash from singing it "anywhere, any time ever again!" Allegedly, this was because the producers of Singer failed to get the Copyright permissions in time before this episode went to air. { So it couldn't possibly be because Dimash, made it his own, hit the high notes with great beauty, strength and precision, and took it 2 levels higher than Vitas! Could it! 😆)
Sandy who said "is he going higher?!" And who sang those notes is who won the competition and Dimash was 2nd behind her. They kept his father coming a secret and he had no idea until he stepped out of the audience at the end.
This was the 2nd song he sang after the break out song SOS that made him an overnight sensation in China and around the world. It is a great series to watch! His Mom said he only expected to make it 1/2 way through the competition as he was brought in as an experiment (so to speak). In fact she said they had to ship him more clothing as he didn't pack enough to be there the 3.5 mths. He also sang in French, Russian, English, Mandarin, Italian, Kazach (brought over instrumentalist in native attire and played the Dombra in this song) and Alien (Diva Dance 😂). The other contestants sang basically in manadarin and english. It truly was a grueling competition as all competitors are already established artists and the 500 member audience is who does the voting!
Dimash does 13 performances in I Am Singer! It’s a competition in China for invited famous Chinese professional singers. They are only allowed to sing one of their own songs in one of the weeks, the rest have to be covers done in their own style. They each get their own vocal coach for the duration of the season. Dimash was the first ever foreigner invited to compete and the youngest at 22. He came second, (we think it was political, it being a State run competition) they changed the rules the following year and Jessie J from England won. Dimash’s performances are incredible throughout the competition! In fact, week 6 when he came first in that week, (as he did in this 2nd week and the 1st week) has to be one of THE greatest performances of ALL time by any artist ever IMO, when he sang a Lara Fabian song (Dimash’s idol) called Adagio! That is just another level! The judges are the 500 strong audience (same every week) who are all from the music industry. The people you see in the green room are the other vocalists with their vocal coaches. They don’t see each other’s performances until the live performance.

Yes, this was a singing contest but for established award-winning singers. Just look up Singer 2017 for all episodes 1-14 minus ep. 11 which was for ranking those below the top three. Also Dimash was invited back in 2018 as a guest performer for the final gala where he sang Hello (the Lionel Richie one). That was one amazing rendition!!!
Dimash we know is a perfectionist but to the rest of us the fact that he asks the question 'if he sang good' is almost unbelievable. How could one be so extraordinary and yet so humble. He is an amazing human thanks to his wonderful upbringing.
As others have mentioned Dimash did not win this Chinese competition though he did become an overnight sensation from his first performance (of course it was SOS which is now his signature song). At the time a foreigner was not allowed in the 1st place spot and he therefore came in 2nd. There was such a public outcry about this that the following year the rules changed and foreigners were allowed in the top spot. Dimash no longer does competitions as his career on the world stage as a superb artist is quite solid.

I actually discovered Dimash with this performance! It was like the 2nd week of competition and I was searching for Vitas. I stumbled on Dimash's cover and 😂 cuz I didn't think anyone would be able to sing it like Vitas. So glad I was wrong! This performance made me a Dear that day. 😂🤣😍

New subscriber! Dimash did not know his father was in the audience. He felt home sick so his father flew from Kasakstan to be with him. He said that if he had known his father was there he would not have been so cheeky with the audience. Nice reaction, I will be waiting for more Dimash.
Dimash has a wonderful sense of humor, and he really had fun with this song engaging the audience and the other contestants. This was in 2017, so he was much younger then. His boyish cheekiness here is so adorable. He didn't know that his dad flew into China to support him and was in the audience as he performed this song. If you watch the video to the end, you can see the heartfelt reunion between father and son. Dimash and his family are really very close, and their love and respect for each other is so wonderful to see. Opera 2 was a song by the famous Russian singer Vitas who sued The Singer show after Dimash's performance claiming they did not get the proper copyright permissions for the use of the song before it aired. Vitas said that he would never again give permission for Dimash to sing any of his songs in any venue for any reason, essentially banning Dimash from ever singing it again. So this video is the only chance we have to hear Opera 2 by Dimash.

Yes this is a Chinese competition show called I Am Singer, eventually they changed the name to just Singer. It's a competition show for established singers, and Dimash was brought in as a wild card. Opera 2 was the 2nd episode. He stayed through the whole season but placed 2nd at the end. All the contestants are great people and they are friendly with each other. He wasn't upset he placed 2nd as he gained a lot of attention and fans through the show. In 2018 they brought him back for the bonus episode where he sang Lionel Richie's Hello, and again in 2019 where he came in as helper to the Super Vocal Boys and sang with them a Queen Medley. The Singer episodes that Dimash was on has english subs, well most of them. So you can watch them. If you watch his songs in order of the show, here's the list.

Competitions in other countries is not as cut throat like in the USA. This program The Singer has professional successful singers competing. Yes, they want to win but they still support and encourage each other during the competition. Less true in Canada and Mexico but in most other countries worldwide, there are winners and people that did not win but never losers. This show “I Am Singer” (renamed The Singer) is a fantastic show and if you have the time you should watch it. The production values are second to none and featured the best of musicians, singers, maestros, directors and technicians.
The Singer was a showcase competition open to well-known professional singers and featured a rotating cast of singers performing each week, usually with seven singers, who performed in front of a 500-member audience. The votes cast from the audience were the sole determinant for the results and the singer receiving the fewest votes was eliminated and a new singer substituted in place of that singer. This constantly changing lineup of artist throughout the series put pressure on all competitors. The pressure on the show’s production teams must have been enormous with 14 episodes with each contestant (and musicians/singers, etc) having to learn, rehearse and present a new song each week.

A competition of already established and famous singers in Asian countries with a very complicated voting of the audience as judges (it was not that easy to be selected as a judge for the professionals in the music industry)! They even watched how the competitors work with orchestra, rehearsals, arrangements… etc… as far as I remember… Very complicated but so impressive competition ( not the Voice or Idol etc) . This was his second song. After SOS went viral (600 million hits) overnight, he woke up the next day with body guards. He was only 22 and probably had not been away from home that much, so very nieve. Apparently, his dad took a leave of absence from his job to come to China to support him.

I suppose the professional singers all knew right away that they had no chance against Dimash. So they took him in as their imported little brother. He had been getting homesick so the producers called his family and arranged for his father to come and surprise him. Since then he always has someone from his extended family with him when he is going to be away from home for any length of time. I love when he spots his dad and then how he asks him if he did good, says "I want to go home" and is comforted by his dad.
Opera 2 was written and made popular by Vitas, a well known singer. You can look up his video. This song was well known to the audience. So when Dimash began the song, there was a level of expectation. However, what they knew from the Vitas version was 2, read that two, key modulations. When Dimash went into his third key modulation, notice the crowds reaction. Then, when he added a fourth modulation, the crowd, the other competitors, and Dad, went crazy. The song no longer belonged to Vitas.
Dimash is the best vocalist in the whole galaxy!! And you still haven't heard "Across endless dimensions".

Sandy Lin won and she was also really good, but he was the favorite and since he was the only one that was not Chinese there, he didn't win....but in the people's eyes, he won! They were ALL very gracious and supportive of him and treated him really well. I would watch ALL of his performances there first so you could see how much he has incredibly gotten better! Adagio is AMAZING. He also redid Lionel Ritchie's Hello (which I always hated because I hate Lionel's voice!) and it's also amazing. And, if you ever saw Bruce Willis in The Fifth Element and saw the blue alien sing Diva Dance (which was computer generated and was said that no human could ever do it!) watch Contessa/Diva Dance. This particular song was the song of Vitas, who, after hearing Dimash sing it, got pissed because Dimash sang it 10000x better than him!, and forbade him from singing it again...big baby. He sounds like a dolphin when he sings it and doesn't even do the higher key changes like Dimash did! Hope you react to those!

There are 13 episodes of this program (competition I am a Signer 2017) in China that you can find on youtube. Following his first performance, SOS, at this competition, he won the hearts of the judges and the Chinese people. Unfortunately, the rules of this competition stipulated that the winner had to be of Chinese nationality. Dimash had been invited for a few episodes only to promote this show and they didn't think he could stay to the end but he did! They awarded him the 2nd prize. Everyone all knew who was the real winner of this competition. Fortunately the rules changed the following year (2018) and it's Jessie J. who won the competition.🥰❤

Dimash was missing home and family and didn't know his father was there. When he hesitated after the song is when he first saw his father ! This was from a competition in China called I Am Singer. Yes, the people in the back watching were the competitors. Dimash came in 2nd, as the rule at the time was that the winner had to be Chinese. The rule was changed the following year.

Let me add just a couple of things to what Deborah has already very eloquently informed you about the show where this performance took place. It is I Am Singer and it is an annual competition of Professional Chinese singers from various genres of music that are all invitees competing for the title of Chinese Singer of the Year. As Deb has said, Dimash was the first non-Chinese and youngest @ 22 yrs old ever to compete. He OPENED the annual show being introduced by a good friend from Kazakhstan that listed some of his accomplishments in his intro. Dimash had won every singing competition he had ever entered including multiple international ones. This show was by far his biggest stage. I Am Singer is the most viewed talent competition in the world. It generates billions of viewers over the 14 weeks run of the show. Dimash was a virtual unknown to the Chinese audience, his competitors and the 500 music industry related judges that were part of the audience. After his opening performance of SOS, Dimash created such a sensation, he required bodyguards. There was a backlash after Dimash took second and also won Chinese New Artist of the Year. It was found that technically, Dimash could not win as the rules of the show did not allow for a non-Chinese to become Chinese Singer of the Year. The rules were changed for the following year and the 2nd non-Chinese singer, Jesse J, won the competition. Many of his performances on the show were quite extraordinary. Chk em out. There is a wee story behind this song. It was written and performed by Vitas ( Russian). Vitas is really loved in China that's why reactions at the beginning of the song were so enthusiastic. What more Dimash was already called second Vitas. I think that all of you now know that he is second to none. I think he wanted to prove it to them to. In original song during this operatic part (I think you call it belt) there is only one change of the key and Dimash changed the key at least 3 times (maybe even 4).

Dimash does a beautiful song at this competition called “Autumn Strong “ and there is a version with the background story behind this song i believe the title is “Dimash translated the true story behind Autumn Strong “... very much worth checking this one out..Dimash learned the song and language in one week!!
