I've started collection Omnibus/Deluxes/Absolutes last year, but I just buy what I really love, no place for ''good'' comics, just the best fo the best for me ;)
Just the stuff that I wanna re-read and something like that.
Things like: Saga and Y The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan, Aquaman by Geoff Johns, The Walking Dead, Berserk, Planetary by Warren Ellis, Daredevil by Bendis...

It can be difficult to not spend money on books you don't need, but it's worth it when every book in your collection is associated with good memories and you don't feel guilty about your bank account. I know I'd never get rid of my omnis of Brubaker's Cap. While I'm more of a DC fan now, this is the run that got me hooked on comics and I know I'll always enjoy re-reading it. I have the singles and I'm not selling them either.

This is what hit me when I went from Marvel to DC. Marvel feels very impersonal in a lot of cases, while DC doesn't hesitate making anyone the narrator and to go deeper into character development. So I'm slowly getting some Marvel Epics, because Marvel can tell good stories nonetheless, but I pretty much always prioritize DC.

I've had a few of those "Am I ever going to read this again" moments. I agree that if you read something once and really don't plan on reading it again maybe you should consider letting a book go to somebody that might enjoy it more. I've always felt if you let a book that you'll never read again sit on a shelf, that may be rare, how can somebody understand or get into this medium and know why we are so passionate about comics and comic collections. One that I'll never get rid of and would highly recommend is Jason Aarons Thor. I had never read much of Thor when I was younger aside from the odd story but as soon as I read his Godbomb/Godbutcher arc I couldn't stop picking up everything else. I would gladly double dip if Marvel ever decides to do a Jason Aaron Thor Omni. If you never read it I highly encourage you to go out and start. There are recently released Complete Collections of the start of his run that are available. I honestly never cared much for Thor but this is is just so good in my opinion. Everything he's been writing on Thor has been leading up to the War of the Realms.

I tend to go through phases with comic my collecting. December & January I was getting Blank Cover Sketches. This month, Hardcovers - mostly Premiere Classic. I originally bought 5 of them back in Fall 2020. I kind of went ham last week & bought 31 Hardcovers from eBay auctions. 1 seller is moving & is super downsizing. 31 HC for $234 + 38 shipping - 14 Premiere Classic & 17 Oversized HC. I typically don't go for TPB very often, but then these last 2 days he's had a gang of TPB auctions ending. I won 16 more for 64 bucks. Shipping will be like 13 bucks. I'm looking forward to see where my collection is going!

I think one day they`ll figure out a way to cross media promote that character and he will become as much loved to the general public as Superman, Spider-Man & Bat-Man. I noticed you kept Marvel Boy. I have the singles which I bought mostly for the art. Is the story worth a read? More of a fan of Alan Moore. Grant Morrison is hit or miss with me & even retired time is a thing I have to manage. @@superdragonz1I am a new collector, who started with N52 and classic Batman, like Year One, TLH, Killing Joke, and so on. However, I want to branch out to more runs I have found interest in, like Immortal Hulk and Superior Spider-man. I can barely tolerate floppies, though; they are expensive, far too spaced out, ad-filled, and lack substance when not done well, which is more often than not. I far prefer trades, OHCs and omnibuses (omnibi?). However, I will also do my research far ahead of time on stuff like this, so I know a lot about Morrison's writing style and how far reaching his callbacks will go. I find it almost more engaging to read, personally, seeing that the writer commits him/herself to continuity.

We both got back into comics at the exact same time and it seems that we are both DC fans who follow certain writers, and also enjoy the non cape titles so I think my recommendations for Marvel are solid because these books predated the mess of Hickman’s Avengers, Age of Ultron and Original Sin. We both like Daredevil even though I loved Waid’s Daredevil, Garth Ennis and Grant Morrison are my favorite writers. With that said I have not read a ton of Marvel but I have tried a ton of it. Matt Fraction’s Iron Man, JMS Thor, Brubaker’s Cap (omnibus coming in January). I think Marvel was doing something really special around the time that all these writers were on these books, as well as Hickman on Fantastic Four, and I’m sure Fraction’s Iron Man and Brubakers Cap were up for awards. What those writers did was take a DC guy and introduced me to the Marvel Universe and made me care about these characters. Then Marvel changed all the characters to women, ethnics and children and they lost me, NOT because I have anything against Riri Williams, or Jane Foster, it was that I had just learned to love the traditional characters. Marvel Now was an epic failure and they’ve yet to recover, but I keep going back to these characters when new teams are on the books, hoping for writers who are willing to go back to writing traditional and fundamental comic stories of the characters. Hell they even killed Spiderman and replaced him with Doc Ock, oh man. Scalped by Aaron is the greatest book I’ve ever read, so I’m sure his Thor is great, but I don’t want to read Jane Foster as Thor, and let me know when Stark comes back from the dead please. In the meantime I will always have those three runs to reread. And yeah Miracleman is absolutely not a Marvel Book and Marvel gets no credit for it at all, and they’ve really done nothing to promote its brilliance when they got the rights. But without it your Marvel collection would be even more sparse!

Hey Mike! Really, really good video, man! I had about 4 paragraphs-worth of a comment typed(typical for my manic self, lol)& my screen just went blank for a second & said, "CZcams stopped working momentarily" or something like that, & my comment was erased. Maybe that was I sign telling me I was blathering on too long, 🙄. Anyways, the short of it(I'll try, lol) was that I really wish more CZcams channels focused on the luv of comics would have people like u & Matt running them. I appreciate ur candid/honest talk about the comic book industry w/regards to the financial burden u can put upon urself when u start trying to buy/collect everything of a certain kind(mostly omnibuses, in ur case)as they are released. There are sooooo many comics(and by comics, I mean TPBs & HCs of some sort-- be they omnis, Lib. Eds., Absolute Eds., etc)I would luv to have, but I just don't have the money to get. We've talked a bit before about my limited income & spending money. I know what u mean when u say that u can want something just to have it, even if ur probably never going to read it. For me, that comes into play when I'm looking to get the final volume or 2 in a series I've been reading/collecting. If I have deluxe editions of the previous volumes, I feel that completionist-need to make sure the final volume or 2 are of the same deluxe format as the volumes I already own. And I sometimes think this way *even* if I've decided at volume 3 that I'm not liking the story the way I thought I would, & *might* want to finish the series since I've invested my time & money into it already, but *definitely* do not need to get the last 2 volumes in their deluxe edition formats! IF I am going to finish the story *at all*, I should be ok w/getting the TPBs when they come out. But nope. I feel the *need* for the complete series to look *right* on the shelf. It's kinda crazy, lol. So, while I *do* have these feelings/needs, I just flatout don't have the financial means to act on them. I mean, I *could*... if I were to decide I wasn't going to get another book from another series, or some other OGN that looks really good, or one of my medicines. It's about choices. And at times, MANY TIMES, it's not even about *choices*. it's like u said... it's about *priorities*! I have to take many medications. My little babies(Maxy, 10yrs old & Joey, 11yrs old-- 2 adorable schnoodles who don't *at all* look like they are the same breed, lol)have many needs. They're both rescues who were abused & neglected-- & the resulting psychological & emotional issues, when added to their age & physical issues(which luckily, aren't too bad at this time) require a lot of luv, patience, understanding, & also medicine of their own(to say nothing of all the other normal costs that come w/having furbabies-- luckily, my mom sees them as her babies as well, & my dad sees them as grandbabies, lol; so they split the costs w/me). Bottom line: Comics are awesome! I absolutely luv & enjoy them as much as just about any other thing in my life! But that's what they are... *things*. And as much as I luv them, I luv my little babies WAAAAY more! And I luv myself more because if I don't take care of myself, I don't get to enjoy my babies or other family & friends or comics or *anything*. So like u said: priorities. I think I've probably sold over 1,000 TPBs, HCs, Dlx Eds. of some kind, etc since I started getting into & collecting them back around 1996. And like u said, I sometimes wish I had some of them back. But I know there was a good reason for selling them. As I'm sure u did-- like when u were engaged! I guess I'm just saying-- in a really long way, lol-- that I feel where ur coming from, & I really do appreciate u sharing ur thoughts on the matter in this video! Thanx, Mike! 😊👍🏻

@@TheHardcoverComic Thanx, Mike! U guys put out great content that isn't just fun to watch, but is informative, astute, smart, perceptive, & I can feel the truthfulness & enthusiasm in ur words. U guys are awesome! Thanx for the kind comments about my adopting my babies. They are like my children & mean so much to me, I can't really put it into words. It's great to hear from another animal lover. There is way too much cruelty in this world-- to animals & people alike. I just dont understand how someone could hurt others, especially innocent animals & children. It often makes me cry when I think of how my boys were abused & neglected. And when I read the horrible stories of abuse in the petitions I sign each day, it can be a lot to take emotionally. I just don't understand it. But I'm glad to give these little guys all the luv they've never known for every bit of time they have left, which is hopefully many yrs still! And the luv they give back-- which, understandably, took awhile for them to really understand how to show, as they really never knew it; but I believe they're intuitive nature to be loving beings mixed w/the luv we give them has overcome much of the pain & neglect they mostly only knew before... & they have so much luv to give, it is so euphoric to feel that luv & empathy they have! I know we've never met, but u & Matt have shown me, thru ur comments, compassion, luv, & understanding. I hope saying that doesn't seem weird. But my instincts say that it won't. And I really think there should be more luv in the world; that people should tell each other they luv one another more often-- even if it comes from a guy in the comments section of ur CZcams channel whom u've never met, lol. U guys have been extremely understanding of my tendency to type long comments. And u have not only accepted them, u have taken the time to really read them & to respond w/sometimes very insightful, sometimes informative, sometimes funny, & sometimes w/all of these things put together. U even give me encouragement. That means a lot! And ur COMPLETELY on point w/the way people today are too focused on buying stuff just to buy it. I've been guilty of it at times, myself, when I've had a few extra bucks. But ur right, it's really more enjoyable to have fewer titles to choose from(a few times in my life I've actually been frustrated due to not knowing which book to read-- something that should really never be an issue, lol; if a person has more than they can even decide on, then maybe they have too many), but the titles actually be great titles which u are really looking forward to reading &/or have re-readability, as u stated in ur video. Anyways, thanx again for the video, & for ur kindness. ❤

Based on the books you've shown on this video, we have different tastes in comics. I'm more interested in classic Marvel storylines from Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four although I have a wide-ranging interest (but less interested in modern stuff). After getting burnt out on the stories and coming to my senses, realized that Silver Age stuff is just really not that good overall. Got rid of 90% of them and literally have ONE Silver Age omni remaining: Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1. Now I mainly focus on modern stuff, which is way more re-readable IMO.

Yes it's very hard to let go. I'm currently selling off a bunch of omnibus and especially those atrocious absolute editions. I just find the absolute are taking up way too much space for so little a read and not to mention so many of my absolutes the bindings are garbage and seperating. Won't be giving DC anymore money towards absolutes

The upcoming moon knight omnibus, it contains his original run. Is it a good investment? Is it matured reading & dark?

So so sorry you had the misfortune of having to downsize your collection, there’s nothing worse . Many decades ago I lived in dire poverty but managed to build up a foundational John Byrne Uncanny X-Men run issues 100-150 in real time early 1980s. Van Halen came to town in 1984 and my greedy father made me pawn that collection for.a humiliating $15.00. Years later after working hard for decades I simply buy myself every comic that interests me I can find . I never forgot that humiliation . The Tom King Vision run is existentially and philosophicallly the greatest run ever and now the hardcover is out of print and $100 and CLIMBING but few will part ways with it. Miracle Man by Alan Moore!!!??! Alan Moore is GOD there is nothing better- although From Hell I find to be equally just as good these works are the Mt. Everest altitudes of genius !!!!

Good stuff man. It's definitely easy for a collection to get bloated so cutting down is good here and there... Been working my way though Daredevil omnis lately and just started Bendis' run -- looking forward to the Brubaker run!
Gotta agree that I often prefer DC over Marvel (I mean Batman is the GOAT hands down imo), but Uncanny X-Force, Annihilation Conquest, and ASM by Michelinie/McFarlane are some of my favorite Marvel omnis

i got rid of most of my dc collection,i dont read much dc,i keept all my marvel books i read alot more marvel,i still have some dc books,
    but mostly marvel.
somehow dc books is not that interesting to me.batman is great but they over use joker,im sick of joker.
same with superman over use of doomsday and luthor,i dont know when i read dc i find myself struggeling reading them, mostly what i dont like about dc is way to overpowered charecters
to the point is so ridicolous, marvel heroes struggeles with every day problems, and more family sence feeling they have, can relate more to them.

Sounds like someone needs to check out DC Vertigo comics instead of their main imprint of superheroes. There you will see the best comics ever made, such as The Sandman, Alan Moores' Swamp Thing, Hellblazer, Preacher, and Grant Morrisons' Animal Man.
