Waiting for you to check out Joel Quarrington’s Canadian School of Double Bass. There are QR codes in the lessons that take you directly to CZcams videos of Joel demonstrating the various exercises. I have and still use Hal’s, George Vance and Petracchi but Joel’s books really cause you to think about fingerings and alternatives using both 1,2&4 and 1,3&4 for both 4ths and 5ths tuning and provide well know excerpts where his fingering system really facilitates an almost effortless solution.

Yup-I have all his books, and they’re great. Waiting to do an interview with Joel about them, then will get a video about in on the channel.

When I decided to learn the double bass some four or five years ago, I stumbled across a copy of the Rubank Elementary Method for String Bass, circa 1937 for $1in a closeout bin, at a local music store.
I figured the bass hadn't changed much in over eighty years, so I picked it up. Best $1 I've spent among thousands on my musical journey, since getting my first electric bass back in 1970. I still refer to it today to refresh learning, playing, technique, sight reading skills, etc.
Not knocking any of the other commercially marketed, more costly methods, but man, you can't beat the resource for the money. Moral of the story, always go through the closeout bins before buying the other, more recently published learning and method books at full price! 😂

Nice! I’ll have to check that one out. Some of those old-school materials are awesome.

For sure-I’ll get that into a “round 2” video in the future.
