    Seriously, 1990 world championship was the first one I watched and became hooked. Had a lot of matches saved on VHS but long since lost. This whole batch of 1990 uploads has been fantastic for me to reminisce.

      Same here. I used to record half the world championship in April so I could watch it in the summer when there was NO snooker on TV.

    John Parrot was a decent player, he would have been successful today, had great cue action and was well able to play with Davis and Hendry.

    Amazing, I think pretty much the entire tournament is now up here from yourself-other than the other two quarters & some of the first round matches. Although I had been watching since the late 1970's as a young child, this one resonated & is my favourite WC-thanks to Hendry winning it for the first time, the high standard of play/close matches in the first round, second round & semis & that due to it being moved earlier it coincided perfectly with the school holidays & so I was able to watch the whole thing.

      yep, as for the other 2 quarters... I have the first session of White v Griffiths, and the first session of Thorburn v Parrott, plus a few frames of the second session. If you're interested I guess I could post them, but both matches were a long way from being completed ...

      Was thinking the same thing, as JP was in total control at this point as he was at the table leading 5-2 in frames and 51-31 in points. For me he then played the wrong shot at 29:12 ... he should have stunned the cue ball up between pink and brown and got Hendry snookered on the yellow. Thus finishes the session 6-2 up and on his way!
      Instead he allowed Hendry to luckily get the snooker you mentioned, manages to get away with it by escaping the session only 3-5 down (and he mock wipes his brow as he leaves the arena as he knows he got away with murder there!). Turning point in the whole match.

    • @parksyist
      @parksyist Před rokem

      Yeah he could easily have put the white behind the black as well if he wanted instead of the nothing shit he played. I'm not sure if he tried to hide white behind the blue

    • @deconteesawyer5758
      @deconteesawyer5758 Před rokem

      The referee did his best to see what would happen by invoking the foul and a miss rule twice on Hendry and then blatantly giving JP a pass for exactly the same shot. John Virgo would say: " An independent observer would say "It ain't fair if JP wins."

    • @parksyist

      Parrott, it's hard to believe that he couldn't win another frame in the mstch after going 11-9 up. Not many thought when the semi final started that Parrott would win as many as 11 frames the entire mstch. But when it went 11-9, many thought Parrott would take it to the wire or very close to the wire.

    • @dvidclapperton
      @dvidclapperton Před 10 měsíci

      @@deconteesawyer5758d
      The WPBSA did not do anything to dillute Hendry's domination if that's what you are trying to get at.
      The miss rule was introduced to ensure that players no longer deliberately foul to effectively gain table advantage from it, Alex Higgins to name just one who regularly benefitted, not to try to stop Hendry. The original foul rule was totally inadequate for many yesrs before this.

    • @dvidclapperton
      @dvidclapperton Před 10 měsíci

      Parrott was certainly at the table for more than his own break off shot and the shot after Hendry's own break off shot in a few of the last 7 frames he lost. Parrott lost one frame 68-55, at the time that was the sort of frame you had to win vs Hendry during a spell of Hendry winning a few frames on the trot if you were still to stand a chance of beating Hendry going down the stretch at the Crucible, but Parrott fell short of what was required. Parrott couid also have won at leset another in that final session but fluffed his lines. Parrott scored nearly 200 in those last 7 frames so he was not exactly almost completely frozen out in the final session. Hendry did not score century break after century break after century break va Parrott in the 1990 worlds.
