One of the musical items made for the 1984 World Championship, this one focusing on the final.

Ray Reardon v Alex Higgins 1976 World Championship
zhlédnutí 21KPřed 10 měsíci
Last 3 frames of the final, in which Reardon motors away after trailing 10-11. It was a tournament beset with venue, promotional, referee and table problems. Incidentally, Ray Reardon is 91 years old today!
Matthew Stevens v Stephen Hendry - Northern Ireland Trophy 2005

2005 final. A rematch of the World Championship quarter-final which Stevens won 13-11 earlier that year. The video has been upscaled with interpolated frames to improve on the Youku version.

RIP Dickie Davies.
(incomplete) Ray Reardon v Doug Mountjoy - 1981 World Championship Semi-final
zhlédnutí 6KPřed rokem
I only have the second and third sessions of this match. The match is probably most famous for Doug Mountjoy's record championship break of 145, but the other frames were mostly fragmented and scrappy. I've added Ray Reardon's loser's interview at the end which I got from another source. Mountjoy eventually won 16-10.
Peter Ebdon v Darren Morgan - Masters 1996

Just the conclusion of the final frame, plus a few bits in the studio with Dougie Donnelly.

Dave Harold v Darren Morgan - 1993 Asian Open
zhlédnutí 1,2KPřed rokem
A frame from the final held in Bangkok. Harold was ranked 93rd in the world when he won this title, and I think he is still the lowest ranked player to win a ranking tournament. He beat Stephen Hendry in his L16 match, and went on to win this final comfortably 9-3.

Have not seen snooker this century The standard of this final is not on par with stephen hendry finals, although mark williams rubbishes stephen hendry Stephen hendry is the best ever, the finals i have now watched from this century, do not come close to what snooker stephen hendry could play. These players were fortunate stephen hendry lost his drive to be at the top.

That cue incident around 9:45 to 10:35 is just typical of why people were scared to be around Alex - 'what a rotten cue this is', he snarls, and you think he's using all his knowledge of brinkmanship and gamesmanship, as well as showing a deeply nasty streak...then Steve's taking the cue back, Alex cheekily keeps hold of the extension, 'come get it then!' kind of thing, both share an impish grin and all is well with the world. Maybe he's just in a happy-go-lucky mood after all? And after all, when Alex is like that, there's nobody nicer...

Thought a bit of context might be interesting, as I've just been reading about the event in the Snooker Scene issue from January 1974; Clive Everton very helpfully always recorded any break over 30 (which it seems he continued doing well into the 2000s in Snooker Scene, even when centuries were commonplace!) and in these earlier issues, even breaks of 20 or above were considered notable. John Spencer, in winning the tournament, made 26 breaks over 30 (his highest 74, in reply to a 49 from Alex Higgins in the final frame of their semi-final). Pulman made only 9 in reaching the final, his best being a 44 (in the first frame of his semi-final v Charlton). Charlton actually outscored Pulman with 12 breaks of 30 or more; Alex made 9 of his own, but was out of sorts that week. Graham Miles made a 68, a 60, a 46, and three in the 30s; Sid Hood, an amateur, had 47, 31, 31, and 30; Ray Edmonds made 44, 38 and 27; David Taylor, the Silver Fox, 40, 39, 33 and 31; John Dunning the veteran Yorkshireman, 44, 38, 31 and 30; Arvind Savur the Indian billiards maestro, 38, 36 and 30; Marcus Owen had 41 and 36; Dennis Taylor only 53 and 47, and Cliff Thorburn a solitary run of 52; Pat Houlihan and Jim Meadowcroft, 37 and 36 respectively; Chris Ross, 34 and 30 - while John Virgo, Jack Karnehm, David Greaves, and Jackie Rea never registered anything above 19.

That’s a wrestling match for a lifetime with small kids and you know it. You played down the driver-necessities like the stalks, an array of dedicated buttons, the console control panel, the things that for many make a car complete. Safety features such as radar, parking sensors, head up display - did you mention them or downplay them?

(I’m a relatively recent newcomer so be patient) I’m used to “foul and a miss” when the cue ball doesn’t touch a red, and the opponent has the option to make them try again. I noticed this didn’t happen, they only did the foul and the four points. Is this something that has changed between then and now

    • @digeme69
      @digeme69 Před 21 dnem

They started changing the miss rule around the early 90s. As you've mentioned here, in the old days 99% of the time a foul would be a foul and nothing more, no balls replaced etc, although the refs did have the discretion to replace the balls if they felt it wasn't a genuine effort to hit the balls. Nowadays a miss is called again and again virtually until they hit the ball. Once again though the refs have the discretion to not call a miss if they feel it was a genuine effort to hit the ball, but they rarely apply this. They just keep calling miss over and over even if 40/50 points are given away.
