Ah, I've always wondered how the Mongolian in this game sounds. I heard the Japanese dub uses archaic Japanese words to really sell the atmosphere of old timey and stuff. Hearing that the Mongolian heard in the game is just in modern speech is a bit disappointing but it makes sense. I don't suppose we have much records regarding Old Mongolian language, and modern speech is the best we have. Thanks for sharing!

Anyone else notice how Khotun's expression seems to mildly shift after we cut to his face from Jin? Like he's staring him down now, seeing the unflinching face of this stone-cold killer, and actually seems to doubt his chances for a moment, and realizing making this man an enemy was the BIGGEST mistake of the invasion? It's subtle, but probably the most telling look on his face for the whole game.

After dealing the final blow to him, my mind immediately went "This is for Taka." I beat the games a few days and my god it was satisfying to finally get revenge on for all the shit he put Jin through.
I was thinking "this is for Taka, Ruyzo, and everyone else your war has taken away. let's be honest if the Kahn doesn't put a bounty on Jins head. Ruyzo would have joined Jin.
In a way, he wasn’t the antagonist. Just the inciting incident for the conflict between the protagonist and the true antagonist, which would be Shimura.
The shogun isn’t even there, he can’t qualify as the antagonist. Also his orders are merely an incentive for something Shimura would’ve done even without them, because he’s genuinely loyal to the feudal system he’s a part of. Shimura does believe that Jin is the enemy. So that definitely makes him the main antagonist here. The shogun may become one in a future installment, but for now he’s just a greater scope villain.

Also Shimura loves Jin yet is set in his ways of being a loyal servant to the Shogun, so Shimura is ignorant to the lies the Shogun feeds him. Both are the antagonist but Shimura serves as the physical embodiment of the Shogun
I love the fact that this isn't an honourable duel. Khotun Khan has made it very clear he doesn't care about honour, so of course, he's going to use poison and group tactics against Jin.

The thing about Mongol warrior were , they did not cared if it was cowardly to fall back from battles. Either it was a necessity or a tactic to take their opponents down. And i think that’s exactly what Khotun Khan did on the beginning half of the fight.
i had the ‘mask on during cutscene’ setting on with the Ghost mask, and it made the scene x10 more bad ass. (Considering Yuna finds it after the battle)

If there’s a ghost of Tsushima 2, kublai would most likely be the antagonist, but no, Khotun khan is the cousin of kublai khan in the game. The collectibles in the game also show that when Khotun invades japan, he plans to overthrow his cousin kublai khan and takeover as the grand khan. Play the game and collect the records to get the full story and some lore
Its insane how good the Samurai Clan armor is on this fight, with Resolve gain charms on top of it..I literally couldnt die being 1 hit away as long as i was getting resolve on each hit or 2

As long as youre spending the resolve you get or avoiding damage you literally cant die I found..All while dishing damage too cuz itll give u resolve also when u get those quick moments of dialogue at certain points of the duel
He was a vassal of Kublai Khan. Although Kotun was a Khan himself but he and his tribe was conquered and instituted into the khanate that Kublai ruled. Remember: Not all Mongols were united. Not even under Ghengis Khan. There were some that did not want the unification.

And if you have played quite a lot of Japanese games you will notice the subtle differences that the game is bound to have when the bosses(defining developers) are western. And offcourse, "made by Japanese developers" games also have their notorious "problems" like overly re-used bosses, manual save points, or some unusually hilarious gestures.
Jin could start his own Shinobi clan that works from the shadows but is hated by the shogun and most samurai. You play as Jin in the second game as he establishes his Shinobi clan and fights against the mongol invasion because I’m not ready to play as someone else yet
Man I so want Sucker Punch to make a new game where we play as the Mongols. They're armours, weapons, looks are so badass in GoT. I want a game where I can look like the Mongol Commanders and where I can dual wield swords or be a brute with a giant shield and sword.
Was doing my second play through since it came out. Cool how you can play this game in any order and it feels like a different experience altogether. I had a lot of fun. My go-to look is the fully upgraded Sakai armor painted in jet black, with the betrayer's hat, and the Sakai chin guard. Gives Jin that "medieval samurai batman" look. Although, I forgot how annoying the AI is for this fight. I understand that the main bad guy has to be challenging- that's not my gripe. But this is just one of those "ignore the laws of physics" kind of AIs. I'll finesse my way behind him, and he doesn't even physically turn around to face me, he just blips in my direction with his spear out. He mortal kombat juggles with combos. I can't tell if he's moon, or spear, or shield stance. It doesn't matter how far away you roll when he sweeps with that weapon staff thing. He catches up because the AI slides towards you without even taking steps- kinda like that exploit with E Honda's hundred hand slap in street fighter II, where you can move forward as youre doing the hundred hand slap. It's like a woodchipper moving in your direction. I love this game and can't wait for the sequel. One thing I wish to see in the next game is something I wish I could have seen in this one- dynamic boss battles with dynamic cinematic level situations.
It was quite satisfying to defeat the main villain in a badass way, so many times you reach the end of a story (game or movie) and think ‘finally, now we get to beat this Sownabitch!’ And then they get taken out by a burning log or something before you finish them. You know, so your conscious is clear...despite the fact we’ve slashed hundreds of goons for the entire game like they were made of cheese. It’s like ‘We know, killing is bad’ ya know. When you present us with Mongolian Hitler I think we’ve got a warrant to not feel bad about it ok? Anyway gg Ghosts of Tsushima, I didn’t feel cheated at the end.
Who else expected a warning before the final mission started like when you took castle shimura and when into this war armed with a katana and no ammo??
Notice how even tho Jin won the duel, He fought as a samurai and was about to end him as a Samurai and failed and then He fought him as the ghost and won? Showing us that Jin from the start had to chance in order to defeat the Khan and his army

That Khotun Khan boss fight was confusing as hell to me. Here I thought it was going to be a one on one duel and the next thing I knew was a whole bunch of Mongals appeared in a constant seemingly never-ending stream and I wasn't sure what to do or where exactly Khotun Khan was, if I had to go to another location within the building or what. I didn't realise he was among the bunch of them. I just kept slashing and running repeatedly trying to slim down the amount of enemies as much as possible. But it seemed they kept appearing more and more out from the building. It took a couple tries well but I kept at it and eventually realised I was now facing off against Khotun. He was tough as hell though. It was a relief to see him finally stagger and go into the kill mode to finish him. That is one fight I didn't want to have to re-do again.
Literally all i want now, is a mode where you can simply just oneshot enemies nonmatter what. That would TRULY make me feel like the most powerful Samurai in the Land.
This scene gave me nightmares and how he ripped takas head off and its dangling in his hand and the blood on his mouth and how he got to the centre of the throath is the scariest thing ive ever seen and after 1 and a half years later this still scares me to the very core. Something I didn't notice until now was that when at first, Khotun was facing Jin at the direction of the doors you go through before this cutscene, he turns around while speaking to him and looks at the poison he picked up, while heading to the ship. However, blocking his path to the ship, Jin is suddenly there at the archway leading to the ship, forcing Khotun to stop, not expecting him to be there. Man pulled a Batman on this dude.

i had the ‘mask on during cutscene’ setting on with the Ghost mask, and it made the scene x10 more bad ass. (Considering Yuna finds it after the battle)

If there’s a ghost of Tsushima 2, kublai would most likely be the antagonist, but no, Khotun khan is the cousin of kublai khan in the game. The collectibles in the game also show that when Khotun invades japan, he plans to overthrow his cousin kublai khan and takeover as the grand khan. Play the game and collect the records to get the full story and some lore

Its insane how good the Samurai Clan armor is on this fight, with Resolve gain charms on top of it..I literally couldnt die being 1 hit away as long as i was getting resolve on each hit or 2

As long as youre spending the resolve you get or avoiding damage you literally cant die I found..All while dishing damage too cuz itll give u resolve also when u get those quick moments of dialogue at certain points of the duel

And if you have played quite a lot of Japanese games you will notice the subtle differences that the game is bound to have when the bosses(defining developers) are western. And offcourse, "made by Japanese developers" games also have their notorious "problems" like overly re-used bosses, manual save points, or some unusually hilarious gestures.

Just beat the game today! This is the best single player game I've ever played! The storyline was scripted SO WELL!
I like to think that Khotun Khan just stands there for a long time and waits for Jin to arrive so he can drink his milk
Was doing my second play through since it came out. Cool how you can play this game in any order and it feels like a different experience altogether. I had a lot of fun. My go-to look is the fully upgraded Sakai armor painted in jet black, with the betrayer's hat, and the Sakai chin guard. Gives Jin that "medieval samurai batman" look.
Although, I forgot how annoying the AI is for this fight. I understand that the main bad guy has to be challenging- that's not my gripe. But this is just one of those "ignore the laws of physics" kind of AIs. I'll finesse my way behind him, and he doesn't even physically turn around to face me, he just blips in my direction with his spear out. He mortal kombat juggles with combos. I can't tell if he's moon, or spear, or shield stance. It doesn't matter how far away you roll when he sweeps with that weapon staff thing. He catches up because the AI slides towards you without even taking steps- kinda like that exploit with E Honda's hundred hand slap in street fighter II, where you can move forward as youre doing the hundred hand slap. It's like a woodchipper moving in your direction.
I love this game and can't wait for the sequel. One thing I wish to see in the next game is something I wish I could have seen in this one- dynamic boss battles with dynamic cinematic level situations.

It was quite satisfying to defeat the main villain in a badass way, so many times you reach the end of a story (game or movie) and think ‘finally, now we get to beat this Sownabitch!’ And then they get taken out by a burning log or something before you finish them. You know, so your conscious is clear...despite the fact we’ve slashed hundreds of goons for the entire game like they were made of cheese.
It’s like ‘We know, killing is bad’ ya know. When you present us with Mongolian Hitler I think we’ve got a warrant to not feel bad about it ok?

Because the mongols invaded China and adapted their culture into their own so like chinas old fortresses, weapons, clothing, martial arts, etc. were used by the mongols
Most Mongolian soldiers at that time in Japan were Chinese and Korean.

That Khotun Khan boss fight was confusing as hell to me. Here I thought it was going to be a one on one duel and the next thing I knew was a whole bunch of Mongals appeared in a constant seemingly never-ending stream and I wasn't sure what to do or where exactly Khotun Khan was, if I had to go to another location within the building or what. I didn't realise he was among the bunch of them. I just kept slashing and running repeatedly trying to slim down the amount of enemies as much as possible. But it seemed they kept appearing more and more out from the building. It took a couple tries well but I kept at it and eventually realised I was now facing off against Khotun. He was tough as hell though. It was a relief to see him finally stagger and go into the kill mode to finish him. That is one fight I didn't want to have to re-do again.
And thus, the invader was defeated by a ghost.
Literally all i want now, is a mode where you can simply just oneshot enemies nonmatter what. That would TRULY make me feel like the most powerful Samurai in the Land.
This scene gave me nightmares and how he ripped takas head off and its dangling in his hand and the blood on his mouth and how he got to the centre of the throath is the scariest thing ive ever seen and after 1 and a half years later this still scares me to the very core. Thank you for reading this.
The 1v1 was way harder than the fight in the ship. If you use the kensei armor and throw your ghost items, literally so easy to defeat him.
I hate boss fights where you have to fight multiple thugs at the same time..... That is NOT a boss fight!

The reason they did that is to have more resolve and increase your Ghost stance ability making the boss fight fair
You first fight him one on one, he loses and sends his minions. It makes perfect sense story wise.
Nothing like hitting Kahn with a hallucination dart in the secomd part, and watching him kill his minions lol

Much cooler with the Ghost armor and cutscene at the start is more badass with Ghost mask. Plus, it was made by Taka, so its poetic in a way.
Something I didn't notice until now was that when at first, Khotun was facing Jin at the direction of the doors you go through before this cutscene, he turns around while speaking to him and looks at the poison he picked up, while heading to the ship. However, blocking his path to the ship, Jin is suddenly there at the archway leading to the ship, forcing Khotun to stop, not expecting him to be there.
