- My friends Erica & Jimmy took us down another one of their local favorites- the Calfkiller River in Sparta, TN. Local lore says the river is named for a Cherokee Indian Chief that once lived in the area. This was a beautiful, relaxing float on a gorgeous little river. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Sweet river n float, like that yaki 👍. Tya brother
Thanks, Will! This was definitely a perfect, relaxing little day trip!! My kind of river! :) Thanks again, brother!!
Again a great vid Dan! Should have gone that day
Thanks, Roggie! It's a beautiful river and a perfect, relaxing float (and lots of shade...although it was cloudy and rained a little). Still a fantastic trip!!! We missed y'all!!!
I would also be the guy who got stuck in between the rocks when everyone else didn't.😅😂
LOL!!! it was narrow, kind of at an angle and the water sped up right at the start, so you had to get lined up just right!! :-D
@@SouthernPaddler And with all that math. In the words of Maxwell Smart- " Missed it by that much" 😆
@@scenicbyways 🤣🤣🤣
good work
Preciate it, bro!!!!
Always wondered about this river!
Unusual name, but it's a great little day float!! :)
Indian Chiefs name
That looks like a great paddle!
It was nice meeting you yesterday on the water! Hope you had a great rest of your day!
I never got any more bites, but had a great time paddling around out there.
Hey Russ!! So great to meet you too! Hate you didn't get anymore fish action, but that's definitely a great place to paddle and there's many more in this area!!
😀👍✝️
Thanks, brother!! :-)
Love the video, but like the old way you video better but gonna watch either way happy paddling
Thanks, Steve! I like the old way better, too! LOL! This was a new boat and it's more of a whitewater boat, so I probably won't put a pole mount on the back. But I wanted to get some experience in the new boat. But I absolutely prefer that high view from the rear camera pole because it shows the scenery better and, to me, that's the best part!!! :) Thanks for the feedback and for watching!!!
Oh, and the camera pole in the back will still be the most common view on most trips, just not when I'm in this Dagger Katana 10.4 kayak.
Hey buddy how are you ? That looks like a fun time out on the water man. I like the colors of your new kayak man. It's the same color as my kayak is. Are you or did you do a review of your New kayak? I would like to see your new kayak man. You have a good weekend buddy and be safe out there on the water man.
Thanks, Mack! Haven't done a review yet, but might do a brief one (I don't know much about whitewater boats...lol). Hope you're having a great week!
Nice canopy, sights and flow. Looks like plenty spots to hop off on too. I would have look at this on the map and said, 'meh'. Very nice location.
I had never even heard of it before this year, but my friends that took us (and apparently many others in that area) have been enjoying this little gem for a while! I hate we didn't more sun, but a great float none the less!!! :)
I've heard about this river just curious if there are any outfitters on this section. Last time i was in sparta i paddled to burgess falls. Thats a great experience as well.
I've seen many pics of Burgess Falls- that is a beautiful place for sure! I'm not aware of any outfitters on the Calfkiller. Our put-in was on private land, but the take out was public access right off the road. It's a beautiful river!!
Looks like you got a Dagger Katana?! Cool, how is it paddling for you? The 10.4 is on my list as a potential boat. The official weight capacity is listed at 285, but I've read stories of folks packing it full up to 350 pounds for trips in the Grand Canyon.
Hey Eric! I LOVE the Katana 10.4 so far. With the skeg down it tracks like a long boat- it's amazing! With it up it spins like a top! I'm 250lbs, but I've not had any gear in it. But the times I've had it in the water it's been great. Pete had long suggested this for me because of my size and the sealed bulkhead/hatch in the back. So far, so good!!!
Look at you handling it like a PRO!!! 🤙😎 How did you like the boat in rapids vs flat?
Ha, ha- I really enjoyed it! That drop-down skeg makes that thing track like a long boat in flat water, yet still allows it to be fairly maneuverable. I'm really digging the Katana!!! :-)
