I anticipated the Portuguese students would take advantage of the opportunity to practice English classmates. I hope the English speaking students will try to speak Portuguese. I noticed during our visit that if I tried to speak Portuguese the person I was speaking to would smile and start speaking English. Antonio (the waiter in Foz do Arelho) was very positive about CRDL. Then talking to the dentist in Caldas about schools I mentioned CRDL and she looked at me and said "That's where my kids go to school". During our week in Caldas we constantly crossed paths with the people we needed to meet. My wife wants to move to Caldas yesterday - as long as she can find a good asian market.

It’s awesome that you tried to speak Portuguese. Depending on your level, locals will try to help by speaking English especially if it’s a busy restaurant. Just keep at it cause you know you’re progressing when they stop converting to English :)
Love Dr. Ines and her staff. You’ll love Caldas. It’s a small city with a great community. It’s definitely not Loudoun County, but to me, better.
Sidenote, there are small Asian stores and I have found most things I needed at the large grocery stores. I do pop into Lisbon quarterly or every 6 months to stock up on things I can’t find here.

Go to city hall of your town and ask there. Odivelas (city near Lisbon) have a free Portuguese course that start in earl September to June (like all the schools in Portugal), it's after 19pm at night, is for everyone that want to learn Portuguese, it's free and is in Escola Secundaria de Odivelas (Odivelas high school). But if you have options like tutors and language schools that teach Portuguese for foreign (the cost can be 75€/month).

Are you aware of what private (colegio) options there are in the Setubal area? Thanks

There are quite a few. If you pull up Googlemap, type in “Colegio” in Setubal. It should bring up a list of all Colegios in that area
