As a Liverpool fan, it was funny seeing the toffees loose their heads for a minute, but in reality. It's a disgrace. How they are being made an example off when there is much worse going on is a farse. I hope they get the 10pts back . Either be prepared to treat all clubs identical in timely fashion or let them all off . They have been scapegoated.

That is understandable and should have been taken into consideration. Either dealing with Man City first , or by holding punishment to effect them all in the same season. Once all clubs have been found guilty. Picking the low hanging fruit is not the way to be fair in an investigation about fairness and ethics

And as an Everton fan just think how Liverpool might have fared if Man City had been punished earlier. And indeed Liverpool , Man U Spurs ,Arsenal etd were given a slap on the wrist of about £3m for the Super League fiasco. That would have undermined the PL but the PL do treat them differently because the PL brand is so dependent on them. So it is one rule for the top boys and another for the rest.

If Everton weren't building a new £700m+ stadium they wouldn't have breached PSR. New stadia or improvements to existing facilities shouldn't be counted within PSR as it's a genuine attempt to achieve profitability & sustainability. The club have been poorly managed over the past 8yrs or so, and wasted money on players... however, for the last 3 or 4 yrs it been selling or releasing players not extravagant purchases. The commission report states that the PSR breach didn't constitute a sporting advantage, yet a sporting penalty was given.

The point where it all started was Heysel and British clubs all being banned on the back of it. Top players left the club to have a taste of European football. That was that. Lost the opportunity to play in the European Cup which was a real Champions Cup not like the Champions league we have now. Jags is right about the points deduction too. If you take 20 points off a club for financial reasons you are relegating them in the boardroom and not on the pitch. Not a very good look for the Premier league as a brand.

Both MORE than cut the Mustard at Goodison Park and the pair of them ended up being sold for considerably more than it cost for the Toffees to get them though the door to start off with.
A quick look on Wikipedia tells me that you are going back 10 if not more years in this instance and I can only guess the club was being more sensibly run than it has been since Moshiri bought it in 2016.

Unfortunately we’ve often fallen on the wrong side of fortune:
-We won the league the season before WWI broke out, the league halted and we lost the momentum.
-we won the league the season before WWII broke out and lost that momentum again.
-we weren’t allowed to compete in Europe when we had arguably one of the best teams around in the 80’s
-after having little money for so long we got a billionaire ceo when ffp rules were effective. Chelsea, Liverpool, man city, man utd all benefited from spending squillions before ffp came into play. I remember the joke about Liverpool having spent a billion on transfers and no league title.
-finally when we had money, we appointed a director of football who recruited the Leicester team that won the league, and the signings he made for the club didn’t work out at all.
-don’t think we can have many complaints, the club would have known about ffp position and should have sort clarity on the epls position on the interest payments to do with the stadium. 10 points however is not appropriate but wasn’t made by the epl rather an independent panel. And of course it’s the fans that wear the failures of the management of the club.
They have however now opened Pandora’s box, what happens to man city and their league titles and those that finished 2nd, and financial compensations for clubs relegated. It’s now a total mess. I think they’ll change the rules for future seasons now and Everton will perhaps be the only club to be penalised with the points deduction.
It’s all good, as I said, we’ve gotten use to being on the wrong side of fortune, literally.

So Everton agree to FFP (PSR), breach them twice in two consecutive periods, admitting to the first, get referred to an independent commission who punishes them in accordance with agreed guidelines by the clubs and somehow its the FA/Premier Leagues fault?
I think they will get a third of the points back but they have failed again so will probably lose them again anyway.
As I understand it Everton admit to the charge and don’t want points deduction or at least a number of points that actually adversely affects their league position. They don’t want a fine as they keep failing PSR and apparently these wealthy businessmen need help in running a business. But they are of course committed to financial fair play for all.
I’d be interested to see how loudly Everton squeal for points deductions if Nottingham Forrest and Everton end the season with no points deductions and Forest stay up at Everton’s expense at the end of the season…….

The problem is the rules were agreed, but the penalty for breaking the rules were not. These supposedly clear and transparent proceedings have sent the league into panic mode as can be seen by January's transfer window.

A £19.5m overspend over 3 years (which wouldn’t have happened if not for the club building a new stadium to become more sustainable) does not warrant the biggest ever top flight points deduction. It’s clear the PL are fighting off the independent regulator, and are using Everton & Forest to make their point.

This is the problem with most people when talking on this. They go "Its a vendetta against Everton because Man City haven't been punished" not understand that Everton made a black and white breach. Everton just straight up spent on paper, more then they were allowed, on paper. Man City have spent on paper, what they are allowed to, on paper. Its very, very different issues.
Its essentially like, Everton were seen by 500 people, in full view of CCTV, stabbing a bloke to death and were immediately arrested whislt drenched in blood holding the knife.
City are suspected of killing 20 people. But all they have is a hunch. Theres some missing people, but no bodies. Theres no murder weapons, no witnesses. Theres a few reports that suggest City were the last person seen with some of those 20 people that are missing, but thats about it.

Man city are alleged to have broken FFP rules. 115 charges which Man city are trying to push back against will take longer to prepare the hearing and deal with.
Everton are not victims. Every club that does what they have will be punished in the same way - hence why Jan transfer window was so dead.
