Bam Margera is a pop culture icon that played a major role in the lives of millions who grew up in the 90s and 2000s. Unfortunately his career didn't continue that legacy after the 2010s. This is the story of Bam Margera.

Bam had the world on a silver platter for a long time and I think seeing life play out ( Ryan Dunns death, getting older, changes of pop culture, marital problems, etc etc) took its toll. No-one ever said no to him, to the point of it ruining his sense of self and sense of reality. I seriously wish the best for him and hope he finds a way to overcome and get sober and just enjoy his life and family.

Bam strikes me as a self-obsessed narcissist who needs to make everything about himself. It's hard to take anything he says or does seriously, when everything he does is for self-publicity. I'm sure he did the Doctor Phil thing for publicity, to get his name back out there again.
I don't believe for a second he did it because he "just wanted to get sober". It's hard to take you seriously, when you insist that EVERYTHING you do must be videotaped and televised! I was a vendor at a convention he was signing photos at. I was too busy to get in line to have one signed for my son but when Bam and his wife (and baby) came by my booth and purchased some things, him and my husband got to chatting about my husband's band shirt lol. My husband mentioned not getting over there in time.. he told my husband don't worry I'll come back and hook your son up.. mind you autographs were not free. Honestly as I looked and listened I questioned his sobriety even though he had just come from a stay in rehab, he just had that look. I almost didn't think he would come back just because we weren't pitching for any free stuff he fully volunteered it. He's a legit broken human on the inside but still incredibly kind and generous. Looking into Bams eyes from 4 feet away was incredibly hard not to just just start crying knowing how much pain he must be in. This might seem hard to believe but my experience with him was a person that was a gentle spoken, kind and generous man that kept his word. About 2 hours later Bam ran over to JUST our booth and handed my husband a little bundle of autographed pictures and other memorabilia and told my husband this is for your son and tell him "don't stop skating or give up on your dreams".. side note: his wife had so much love in her eyes walking with him and their daughter. I hope at some point he makes it out of that dark hole he's in. He has a heart of solid gold in there. Thats something you have to look directly into his eyes to see

love your post. I always catch mad shit from ppl when I stick up for Bam, but he's a good friend to his good friends, if you know what I mean. LoL. He is soo diff now, he is a shell of his former self, bc of losing Dunn, and the fact that he has been partying nonstop for decades. Even though he acts like a spoiled kid jackass on tv, it doesn't mean the guy isn't a sound dude with a heart of gold. I used to chill with him, went up to see the band jam, I even partied up at the house a few times (I knew a girl that went to school with Novack, I'm from Philly & my best friend grew up in West Chester) Underneath all of the craziness & bratty attitude, he really is a sweetheart (when he wants to be)
I can totally attest to this. LOL.
OMFG, The last time I chilled with that crew, we met up with all of them in A.C - Bam had an entire floor of rooms booked, it was utter chaos & madness, walking from room to room, each room even more insane than the last. People getting tatts, jammin' on guitars, someone even snuck a miniature donkey in I SWEAR TO GOD.
Everyone was partying like rockstars, what a night! I didn't sleep. (This was like 15 yrs ago, FFS. LOL)
One thing I would like to say to ppl that call him a spoiled asshole, like being aggressive & abusive and smacking his Dad & shit - I also hated when he acted like that, and not to ever make excuses for it, but a lot of the times when he was like that he was most definitely off of his meds. He would get really hype and like have to start smacking something or someone. (he used to smack my cheeks sometimes, its like a weird tic) I miss the old Bam, though. I hope & pray he can get it together. It is really sad to see him like this, every time I do, I start bawling my eyes out, bc it is not even the same person. :'-(

      this ^
Children need discipline, structure... that sounds like something teens will quickly 'give a middle finger to' - but to have those things growing up shows you are loved and cared for.
It shows you have value to those that care about you, they don't want you to be hurt, or lost. People have heard of the sentence "Spare the rod and spoil the child" to mean that we must try to never hold back our kids, never punish and just let kids do what they want; but most don't know that the Hebraic writers do not write that way, they write with an 'if-then' style, which makes it "IF you spare the rod, THEN you will spoil the child" [all of that is in the bible btw]... Kids need to feel safe when young, so that when the time comes, they will have the confidence and thorough-thinking to handle what comes at them later in life

That is indeed the problem right now, you have to *Want* to get better, Steve-O has said that exact thing both about himself overcoming addiction and when it comes to Bam and their many attempts to help him. I find it just ridiculous that our generation grew up on Jackass and Viva la Bam. It was on TV during the day. We actually watched it all the time at school, sometimes with the teacher. Now that we're a lot older and wiser, CZcams has decided that it's not safe for us to watch an objective and educational documentary about the show, while the actual show is still up and probably monetized. Meanwhile the kids are watching Jake Paul and Nelk showing them how to dehumanize women and play slot machines online. I honestly don't know what to think anymore.
EDIT: If you got offended by my mention of Nelk, just replace it with Prince Family or Ricegum or whatever. The point wasn't that any of these examples should be banned. The point was that CZcams's moral code is clearly being dictated by advertisers.

I think it really broke down just because he got "famous" super young. He wasn't "famous famous" but he was super well known all around the skate scene when he was only 13 and he was traveling because he was actually making money from it.
April and Phil gave him a super great childhood, I think up until he was a teenager they were phenomenal parents (and their other kids turned out pretty decently).
Had he not gotten famous at 13, they would have imposed more responsibilities on him, made him get a job, etc. But since he was "making money" already from skating, what's a parent to do but encourage a profitable venture? He was able to make money without having to have responsibility, and form their perspective he was doing well and not doing any "bad kid things"... He didn't start drinking and doing drugs until his mid twenties!
If you're a parent, and your kid is NOT doing drugs or drinking, AND they're making money, its probably really really hard to find where to put your foot down to teach proper discipline and responsibility. You can't tell a kid who's doing everything right on paper that they're doing wrong.

I do believe how he was raised is playing a huge part in this...not to shade his parents or anything but let's face it he was spoiled and was borderline abusive towards his family for years as a prank, yeah whatever. Kids who are spoiled like this usually have a tough time adjusting to adulthood, but when substance abuse is thrown in the mix, damn its rough. Think about it,, Bam had ZERO accountability for anything his whole life. When Bam is ready he'll sincerely get help or he'll die first, unfortunately. Addiction is no freakin joke, I'm the same age as Bam, 43, and was an addict/alcoholic all through my 20s and most of my 30s, 6 years clean this year. Thank you for being considerate of his addiction problems and showing that he’s just not mentally okay and isn’t a bad person for struggling with addiction. My mom and really all of her side of the family was addicted to one substance or many. It had a chokehold on at least 3 generations on that side of the family. And most of them including my mom has passed away with their addiction problems either prompting their passing directly or the symptoms of years of dr*g abuse causing further detrimental consequences. Before I was born my dad was an alcoholic too so it’s really on both sides. My dad is still with us and stopped drinking as soon as he found out my older brother was on the way. But my point is that struggling with addiction doesn’t make you evil. It really is like a disease. It took me a lot of therapy to come to terms with that. When mom passed it wasn’t normal grief I was going through.. it was guilt. I had grieved the loss of my mother long before she actually passed but I spent a lot of time resenting her for “choosing” her addiction over us kids. At a certain point the addiction is mainly the addict having to take something to keep from being in awful physical and mental pain.. or my mom was like that. I remember her being sick and sweaty a ton when I was younger. She was going through withdrawals. The guilt I feel now is because she would have moved Heaven and earth for us kids and she really tried to get better over and over. She just didn’t have any support or resources considering her family leeched onto her financially and encouraged more dr*g abuse. I miss her more and more everyday. She really was such a good person and never hurt or stole from anyone to support her habits. She was as good of a woman as she knew how to be.

This is why children should be taught responsibility from an early age. You can love your kids and make their dreams come true, but they need to have respect for their parents and understand work. Bam asking for help from DR. Phil (lord have fucking mercy) and being told that it’s all his fault because he’s spoilt is a fucked up way to stunt someone’s desperation of recovery by installing guilt, shame and blame instead of addressing the harsh issue with forgiveness and sympathy.
We all say “that person needs help” but pointing the direction and knowing what help they need is crucial for someone to not fall through the cracks before it’s too late. We’re just witnessing another childhood icon suffer the consequences at the hands the people who failed to protect them.

Very well said. I couldn't have phrased it better. I remember laughing and enjoying Bam when I was young. Him and Nick Cannon's Wild N Out is what got me into MTV to begin with. I haven't heard Bam's name in years and this doc depressed me a bit more than I'd care to admit. Especially seeing all of that about Ryan again.
I really hope Bam finds the proper help and becomes a happy, well-rounded man. Glad Stevo seems to have faired off more positively, I honestly never would have expected that.

Gonna sound tough but everyone says he hit "rock bottom." I'm sorry but someone who has probably never had a legitimate job and been broke and alone hasn't hit rock bottom. Sounds like he might need to take a physical labor job or something to gain some self worth. I feel bad for the guy so this isn't just a hateful criticism, work is good for us, even if you hate it. Hope the best for the dude because I don't know how he'll ever come back from losing his buddy. I can 100% see how losing the one person that made him feel alive can have him feeling empty, his reality has shifted in a way he probably will never recover from. It's friggin sad.

He is a silly drug addicted cry baby that blames everything else on others and supposed mental illness. He wont ever get better until he starts taking responsibility for his own actions. Drug addiction and self sabotage is a great way to self sooth and romanticize melancholy. Ive done it for years. But im not blaming others for being an ass hole.
