@@Marnar-ge8vr I agree but it doesnt have anything to do with how good of a person you are or even how successful you could be, it's a lot more about money and school politics/who knows who especially in those schools (as shown by the olivia jade/college scandals in recent years). But the good news is, in real life you can succeed just as well with a degree from community college, big name colleges arent really that big of a deal

@@mounaa6095 Precisely. Aside from a fancy name there is not much benefit going to some school with a fancy name and a big price tag in this day and age. You will get just as much out of a smaller, more affordable school, and in the long run you will not have any difficulty finding jobs just because you didnt go to Harvard. Harvard has been over hyped and made to sound like the grandest achievement, but in actuality, you're going to be just fine at any other school, it's not that big of a deal. So no one feel bad if Harvard is out of the price range or you arent accepted, it's not as great as its cracked up to be

Harvard isn’t actually the best school to go to. It’s just the richest one and the one you typically have to be wealthy or of status to attend. That school is a money making business. There are plenty of other very good (even better) schools to go to in the states. The overall hype, thoughts, & culture surrounding Harvard needs to end.

@@grey6703 i can’t speak for other ivy leagues but Harvard financial aid is 100% need based (not merit based). If your parents make less than 65k/year (which is actually ~20% of the Harvard student population) you literally go to Harvard for free

It’s all about knowing, the subjects you learn you will barley even use like science if you don’t want to be a scientist since when will you be testing for glucose, starch or chemicals. Or maths, all we need to know is how to multiply, divide, add and take away in our lives unless you want to be a maths tutor, teacher or mathematician. English only needed is grammar, punctuation, spelling the meaning of terms. And plus in years time like two or three you will forget about all these things you have wasted your years in. So idk why GPA’s are even needed tbh. GPA are for intelligence but we will literally forget about the things we have learnt.
Just so everybody knows: most colleges send there acceptance in a large envelope and the no in a regular sized envelope. Of course that’s if you get it in the mail

When I applied to my university they emailed me, which I was bummed out about 😂 I wanted the envelope experience

Most universities have gone paperless and only some still use envelopes for their letters of acceptance

honestly, going to harvard more so determines your wealth rather than your intelligence. i wouldnt be upset if you didnt get accepted, cause while its a great experience, it’ll also put you hundreds of thousands in debt.

Actually, not true. Yes, a lot of people in Harvard are rich, but if your family makes under a certain income (which my family was) you could pretty much go for free and live very comfortably. It does NOT determine your wealth at all. A girl from my school was accepted last year and was not rich. In fact, my area is very poor and full of crime, which is why it was so big of a deal. Income is not a determining factor. Actually, GPA, volunteer service, and extracurriculars are the major determining factors for many schools, including Harvard.
Harvard is very intelligence based and not wealth based, they are currently trying to get me to go there, and I have received a hand written letter from.the president of the university telling me that they would love to have me here, but that I need to look at all other colleges and not just go there because of how smart I am, he literally told me to go look at other ivy league schools and schools like Duke and Stanford. Harvard also gives crazy amounts of financial aid every year, I could literally go there for like 75% off and thats just from the university, not counting other scholarships I could get.

I've met people who have been to the 5% acceptence rate and people who goes to community college and honestly some of them are very similar in intelligence. If they don't accept you, you're just not what they are looking for and thats nothing to be ashamed about it doesnt make you less smarter.
well intelligence in my opinion means hardwork and learning, so people who get into Harvard try very very very hard and I think they have more knowledge on the topic than a person going to community college. Of course if its intelligence like you learn things quicker, then I agree with you.
@@mythl2179 Hardwork, intelligence and knowledge are different things. Intelligence is the the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. Students who go to Harvard aren't necessarily more intelligent, but they are hard workers. They work harder than the people who go to community college but that doesn't mean that they're more intelligent. People get into harvard because of political connections too, they're neither intelligent nor hard workers.
Had the chance to talk to someone who works admissions for Yale. They have a department that looks up applicants families and rates them on how like they are to become donors. This department is the one whose recommendation determines if you get admitted. I assume Harvard is the same.

Actually the 5% acceptance rate is a bit skewed anyways. Because its an “ivy league” thousands of students will apply for it every year even if they clearly have no chance of getting in just to say they applied. So it drives the acceptance rate down
I feel like Harvard is just overrated. I believe that there are so many places that are way better and aren’t as hard to get in than Harvard.

I didn’t realize this until I was on this situation but applying for any school while you’re in active duty military makes you automatically 10-30% more likely to get accepted

Don’t feel left out literally no one gets into Harvard it’s kinda a overhyped school since it’s a Ivy League. I know a person that went there and they hated it. They said it wasn’t a very good school and she never really had that much work compared to other colleges (it might have just been her degree) and she constantly was going to party’s and things like that. She said it was a college experience school instead of an actual learning school (when I say that I mean she says it was perfect for the experience of living in a dorm and without your parents and going to parties like you see in movies but they didn’t learn that much especially for the price)

A senior applied my sophomore year and got an acceptance letter and still chose to stay in state at one of our universities. She said a teacher pushed her to apply and that it wasn’t what she wanted but she was happy she was accepted

My opinion/ idk if it unpopular or controversial: The manuscript is my least fav bonus track. Out of The Manuscript, The Bolter, The Albatross, and the Black Dog.

Harvard isn't everything. It's just a lot of money, and if they don't even have the program you're looking for, I'd say it's not even worth it. Especially for your first years!! Get some experience at a community or junior college first, if you can! And take a deep breath. You are valued and capable of many amazing things.

I congratulated Katie before I knew she didn’t get in
I always told my parents and brother I would apply to Yale, Stanford, Harvard, and even acting school(as a back up) just to see if I can get anything good. Well, I'm currently only just about to start 9th grade this year, but I am going to stick true to my word, and will apply, because not many people in my family went to college, and I'm really smart, I have a 3.9354 GPA, and plan to do everything I can in the next four years to get it to a straight 4.0, and the smartest person in the thumb of Michigan. I know I can do it, I just have to put past my ADHD, which will be hard, but I think I can, and don't let my hyperhidrosis get in the way.

Don’t worry Harvard students don’t get hired. Pretty much my entire industry doesn’t like Harvard students/graduates, most of them have this attitude that they should be given incredible management positions without ever putting in the work so most people don’t hire them.
yes they do, people who go to elite schools get payed way more than people who don’t. your industry is discriminating firstly, but more so it does not represent the whole of america.
@@mythl2179 well my company is in the semi conductor industry and I can say from experience you’re completely wrong Harvard grads make pennies compared to free lance workers who got degrees from some online school no ones heard of. The idea that Harvard is an elite school is exactly the mentality that causes them to be laughed out of offices just like mine.

@@mythl2179 those figures are from 2017 and are based on 34 years old graduates and doesn’t take into account the 200k tuition/debt for most. So basically they get out of college then need to gain a couple years of work experience to get a good paying job and make enough to offset the losses of spending the 200k on tuition or paying off debt. While I started working immediately after graduating online and now make a commission and have multiple servicing contracts. My buddy did the same thing and he works freelance for 4 different companies. And want to know the funniest part? I have never been asked where I went to school. But back to my main point, I’ve talked with multiple executives from a couple different company’s and many of them have similar experiences with Harvard grads. They have attitudes and think so highly of themselves which makes them terrible to work with so the get turned away.
@@mythl2179 There'll be debts that they have to pay off too, and nobody is gonna hand them the biggest position just because they graduated from Harvard. As harvard is recognised, they will get a job easily, but they have to work hard to keep the job. Work experience also matters. Maybe humble people from Harvard earn nicely, but most of them develop the ego of being graduated from Harvard and see other employees to be less than them, which makes it hard to work with them. You're really wrong to say that people from other colleges don't earn more because with more work experience and stuff, they go on to earn as much as harvard students.

I got accepted into Harvard Uni, but decided to attend Columbia instead. I wasn’t really interested in going to Harvard, but my father went there and wanted me to follow on his footsteps. I loved my time at Columbia so much that I went for my undergrad, medical school and doing my residency there. I’m glad I followed my own choice.

I kinda hate that feeling of being worth less bc or what University or college you attend. I go to one that's relatively small and medium difficulty to get into but it's very close to my house and my tuition is free bc my dad works there... I honestly love the profs there and the campus life. Still I can't help but feel inferior to ppl who went to ivy league schools and it sucks
