    There are several others …Manchild in the promised land … stands out . I agree Down these mean streets was exceptional.

      Never heard of MANCHILD IN THE PROMISED LAND. One of the reasons I started this channel was in the hopes of getting recommendations like this, so thanks.

    Thanks for the tip of reading memoirs. If I may suggest an old book, but modern, I would suggest “History of my life” by Giacomo Casanova, despite is about life in the eighteenth century, it will be a great lesson and a lot of fun, may be a reduced edition at the beginning

    John, the Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll is highly regarded I haven't read it myself though.
