      Hi Kepler. You might have noticed in Google maps that the town of Enniskillen is a Island surrounded in water in lough erne. It has 6 Bridges that link it to the mainland, as a result it doesn't has a bypass, making the traffic through the town very busy. It's in the middle of upper and lower lough erne. The wee red boats and the water bikes are for people who just turn up. Basic instructions. Just outside the town are other larger, better value boats for hire that are pre-booked for a half or full day,, with full instructions, as they will travel further into the open lough.. There are also Large Cruisers for 8 people that are hired by the week which are expensive and you must pay extra for insurance. The odd thing about the video is that Peter's boat is not a hire boat and he was the one who was in the wrong and because he lost his temper, that cause him to fall out of his seat. To this day, Peter doesn't know that he's on youtube.

    Week end on the Upper Thames are madness around the boat hire depots, hirers get the briefest of instruction before heading out. They don't have a clue on tide or wind, boating in the UK is on the opposite side of the river to that on the road, so instinctively they revert to road driving when their minds drift. The middle pedal doesn't work, that takes a hand movement. Just for fun I called into a hire station and enquired on a weeks hire and mentioned I'd never driven a boat, as they were not busy they went through the briefing course. It's no wonder there are so many mishaps and in the interest of trying to prevent some. I put them right on a number of points.
    The next time I went passed the depot I tooted and gave them a wave, they gave me a Winston in reply.

I stayed a weekend in that little grey cottage back in the 1970's. When two boats have the same priority of right of way based on their classification, the determining factors become position and direction of travel.
    To determine the position of another vessel relative to your own, you must know the different “sectors” of your vessel, i.e., starboard, port and stern. Once you identify where another boat is relative to your own, you’ll know who has the right of way.
    Using the following simple rules, you’ll have a good grasp on how to behave around other powerboats:
    1. If another vessel is approaching you from the port - or left - side of your boat, you have the right of way and should maintain your speed and direction.
    2. If a vessel is aiming to cross your path and they’re on your starboard - or right - side, they have the right of way. Alter your course so that you will pass them at a safe distance and in a way that is apparent to the other skipper
    If you meet another boat head-on: Under the boating rules of the road, vessels approaching each other head-on are always supposed to pass each other port to port - or left to left, just like on the road. However, crowded harbors and times when many boats come together at once make this difficult to follow all the time - stick to the rules as much as possible, but use your best judgment to keep everyone safe.
    If you’re on a “collision course” with another vessel: Remember, you must alter your course with ample time to safely avoid a collision, even if you are the stand-on vessel. The definition of a “collision course” is when the bearing from your boat to another isn’t changing, while the distance between your two boats is shrinking

      "Just like on the road" applies to thos countries that drive on the right. More than 70 countries do not.

    • @stevenc9207
      @stevenc9207 Před 2 lety

      @@TR4zest that's very true. In reality, both these boats seem to be at fault. They both had a duty to avoid the impact but only the blue boat even attempts to turn. Depending on the angle, which is tough to tell, the blue boat may have have been the stand on vessel initially. I just figured people would like to know the real rules instead of all the incorrect info in the video and in the comments.

    • @TR4zest
      @TR4zest Před 2 lety

      @@stevenc9207 Yes, your info helped. Just wanted to fix the on the road comment, particularly as this is filmed in a country that drives on the left. From what I can see, the blue vessel looks to be at fault, though likely no harm done. The guy at the helm of the blue boat seems erratic.

    It seems the little red boats are much better value to hire than the aqua bikes:-)

      Check out my Castle Archdale video. Castle Archdale is about 10 miles from Enniskillen, but they hire 4-6 person boats with small half cabin for £60 half day or £100 all day and that includes the fuel.

    Someone needs to proof-read the subtitles: there are about 65 mistakes in them.

    Whew, with gutwrenching behavior like that from the wreckless boaters there, I think I'd feel safer swimming in a Miami, Florida boat canal on Spring Break school holiday!
    And... what was with that insane, rage engorged Fisherman? I thought he was going to hurt someone for sure!

    I THINK YOU SHOULD INTERVIEW THE CAPTAIN OF THE BLUE BOAT SO THAT WE HAVE HIS SIDE OF THE STORY AND IT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT SCOOP FOR YOU
