Supermarket sim didn't start the retail store simulation genre. People have been making them for decades and supermarket sim is as much like the ones that came before it as any of these are to supermarket sim.

Definitely looks like a gamma or saturation issue... any graphics options to fix/affect the lighting? The screenshots on the Steam page actually look pretty good.
