I am not trans, but just the ideia of a character being trapped into a reality they don't belong, in a body that is not theirs while they die is enough of a plot twist to make me hooked, i know it is a alegory, but oh boy that was a genius way to depict the feeling of not belonging and not feeling like your body is truly yours at the same time.
We need more people like you in the world. You have a lot of empathy and I respect you so much.
💙
not trans either and it completely flew by my head. Understood nothing.
At a point I thought this was about suicide and the girl was trying to kill both of them, by manipulating the guy to go die with her.
Then I though the guy recreated that girl after she disapeared and was "seeing" her talking to him.
But in general i did not understand it and got a little bored and played at 2x speed after the 1h mark.
Now seeing the comments it makes more sense. But not my type of movie
But of course I think thats may be just me, because i saw that "smile" movie and only afterwards I saw people saying that it was a metaphor for trauma and mental health.
Im more a straighrfoward person. You need to say more clear stuff to me if you want me to get it.
i went in blind and got a surreal drama that ripped me to pieces
I did the same. this is exactly why i love going into movies blind. because of the chance I run into movies like this.
@@SneakyMexyea when i went to see a youtube review before i watched it i looked at comments and someone said this is what its like being trans...i immediately said "ah cmon" i knew it was a phychological thriller but didnt know it meant that now that i think about it it makes sense but the movie coulda been about a couple other things
Yeah same.
@@CordayDatzTuff im trans so I saw it as that and much more
This movie broke me in a good way. Made me wonder if I was living life or just letting it pass me by. I'm not trans but the fear of not becoming yourself is still relatable to an extent.
Same here
Exactly! That’s what makes this film so interesting! It’s disturbingly relatable by inviting you into something everyone in life can find oddly familiar the constant time lapses as well as the anxiety and loneliness connects us all as if we’re all living within a dead memory but then simultaneously highlighting the trans experience by making the Pain of Isabelle so readable on screen showing the how intense this kind of dysphoria is for Trans people.
The Story and experience itself is horrifying. I'd say it's a drama with shocking images.
Yeah I haven’t actually seen the movie yet but the trailer reminds me of David Cronenberg, Paul Schrader or even slightly of the movie ET. It’s not a horror but there’s influence from the genre.
@@whiro8945it's really good, give it a watch.
This movie is very moving and powerful. As someone who struggles with identity and self acceptence myself, this tale was a warning for me. Never keep your glow hidden. Never hide what makes you, you out of fear. Otherwise, you will spend the rest of your life catering to others the way you should be catering to yourself. You will go the rest of your life living with the wasted potential to be who you are truly meant to be. It will kill you inside.
What a beautiful message ❤
Succinct, brilliant analysis of a brilliant movie.
I went in expecting to be terrified and came out wanting to cry😢. Even as a cishet the plot hit me like a gut punch..
this movie felt like it reached its cold little hands into the depths of my soul and felt around, absolutely gorgeous film
Asking a non binary person to label their movie is funny 😭
Amazing movie- soundtrack, cinematography, ugh everything!! Loved it
The amount of money I would spend to just sit in a room with Jane and TALK for HOURS about this movie. I saw it almost a week ago and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. A movie had never left me so devastated but also wistful? Melancholy? I've never been so invested in the life of a character in a movie and I cannot wait to watch it again and own it myself.
Same. I wrote to A24 asking for a special collector 4K like they did for The Lighthouse and others. I ended up seeing this three times in the theater and I never do that.
...there is still time...
Truthfully this movie didn’t scare me, but it did leave me horrified.
The amount of cis people frustrated this one film doesn't cater them is hilarious. It's okay darlings, you can just keep being ignorant and hateful, just move on and dont get hold up on this, i wouldnt want you to get a headache
It's just false advertising
@@Brandon_66 say whatever you want to say, it's not made for you and that bothers you
@cc8879 No, I'm bothered because it was advertised as something the movie wasn't, stop trying to victimize yourself
@@Brandon_66literally it was presented as a horror movie. People aren’t saying it’s bad it just wasn’t what it was made out to be
@@VxnnyXF exactly
It’s a horror movie in the sense that you feel horror during the second half as you start asking “am I wasting my life? Am I haunted by mistakes? I know there’s time left but how much have I wasted?”
I love that they don't care for representation that much when nowadays that seems like the priority to a lot of directors doing specific films.....
I’m really like when artist can make something incredible and moving but still be able to talk about it like a grounded understanding person.
This movie was amazing and shook me to my core with how uniquely terrifying it is, it sucks that people in this comment section are too transphobic or brain broken (or both) to give it a chance
What other movies did they do?
We’re All Going To The World’s Fair
Truly remarkable film
i feel like its the horror of not finding yourself
psychological horror i’d say
I denied my trans identity for nearly a decade, and i definitely related to many of the things owen went through. I didnt really see it as a horror movie. I saw it as a message to people like myself.
I think it’s a horror movie if you relate to it I’m not trans but I’m in the queer community so from somewhat of an outsider view I totally understood how it must’ve felt for trans people watching, in my own real life horror experience with it, it reminded me soooo heavily of when my depersonalization was at its worse it brought me to tears but in a good way such a beautiful film🤍
Is this a vampire being interviewed?
As a trans person its a great story that is a horror to witness but isnt a horror in any traditional sence. I sobbed watching this film first watch.
観てみたい❤
I love A24 films
Love you Jane!
Fantastic movie.
Really captures the feeling of not belonging in the world and just going along with norms that make no sense to you.
I'm not a trans person, but I imagine this kind of feeling is shared by many. Trans or not.
Wtf is that meant to be
🤔🤔🤔🤔
still confused by the movie too lol
Definitely not watching this movie ever.
Not wanting to label your movie because it would allow for expectations you can’t control is the most queer answer to a question like that, and I love it.
I saw the pp glow
Cool
See a lot of people say the trailers advertised a different movie than what was presented. But that’s why I saw a 10 second ad… said hey that looks like it could be interesting. Didn’t watch anything else about it and just went and saw it in theaters…. And yea it was great! I’d say it’s not “horror” but it is very viscerally emotional. And has a generally oppressive atmosphere the entire way through. It’s not for everyone and that’s okay! If you make a movie for everyone, you make a movie for no one.
I think people SHOULD make more personally charged and introspective pieces that aren’t conventional, cause that’s what gives film flavor and a diverse pallet of experiences.
Great movie
So, No.
How do you say so many words without conveying a shred of meaning
That's filmmakers for you
Man, it's okay if you don't know how to understand English
THAT , is exactly how this movie plays out also! I saw it today , and , it was so odd. I especially loved the actors are just talking alone on the screen and explaing what they are feeling or going through with such weirdness adding to every sentence it just didn't make much sense , lol.
I get what they were trying to say, which was essentially “No,” and more specifically “This movie doesn’t conform to traditional genre expectations and I don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea that my artsy surrealist mood piece is a conventional horror movie and then they not like it because it was marketed wrong”
@@earllearyit’s just not for you
…..Just hates labels huh?😂
😭
It's not. It's not a horror movie. The trailers lied to make the movie more interesting than it actually is.
I think it’s a horror film… it’s about someone who can’t be who they want that’s pretty horrible to me
@@Lilbuckets2 It's not the kind of horror it's advertising itself as. I get/like the trans allegory, but it's tricking people into spending money on something that they didn't ask for. It's presenting itself as this supernatural creepypasta-like horror film, when it's actually just a VERY slow, and kind of pretentious coming-of-age story. I'm glad you got something out of it, but you can't blame me for being disappointed.
@@user-rv3xn3ki1uThe story never seemed like a horror movie to me from the trailers, tbh. I expected a coming of age story, and got a subversion of that type of story. The character does have a coming of age, but it only makes things worse for them.
What the fuck is that thing with the glasses
Zzzzzzz
That movie sucked and I’ll never get that time back
Movie was trash, have a nice day!
Most boring movie and director ever
Yet here you are on an obscure YT video hating in the comment section
@@tastyflakycod They're free to voice their opinions. Honestly, I agree with them. I like the message and themes, but the movie was super boring....
@@user-rv3xn3ki1u just say u dont get it
@@user-rv3xn3ki1u the point is they specifically went to go and seek out the movie on a random video on the internet to bitch and moan about how they didn't like it.
@@TheRegularHedgehog575 @TheRegularHedgehog575 Obviously you enjoyed it, and that's cool, but We're going to have to agree to disagree on its quality. My friends (some of which are trans) found this movie very dull and pretentious. If the trailers were more honest about what the movie was, I think not AS MANY people would be complaining.
What the f*ck is that
It's not a horror movie. It's a horrible movie. Just don't watch it.
I’m so sorry you got dooped into watching a movie that was challenging and took some thought to understand:((
"Boo whoo, I'm sad that someone made a movie that i didn't like, let me go shit on their hard work because I think that will make me feel better! " thats you, thats what you sound like.
@@MYSTERIOMUSIK it's a horrible movie
I had so much hope for this movie and at a point I really thought it was about a couple of people on a different world fighting monsters who get defeated and are put in a different dimension and now stuck there with one of them trying to desperately Convince the other that’s what’s happening.
But it’s just some bullshit about being trans.. 😭😮💨🤷♂️
You went into an A24 movie thinking it was going to be about people in a different world fighting monsters?
@@ravantgarde1899 have you not seen the movie?
@@BUDDYLEROY I have seen it, and am familiar with the director’s other film, “We’re all going to the world’s fair”, as well.
@@ravantgarde1899 okay then I’m confused how your not understanding what I’m talking about?
@@BUDDYLEROY I’m shocked that someone would go into a film from this director knowing their past work and that this is an A24 movie, and expect it to be about fighting monsters in different dimensions, and then say it’s bullshit because it represented the alienation of LGTBQ+ youth 🤷♂️ You genuinely just might not be part of the target audience for this type of film, but to call it bullshit is wild to me
Ew what is that
A human being.
🤮🤮🤮
Your face is horror 😮
That’s rich coming from a mouth with that goatee.
Who cares?
Bro throwing stones from a glass house
Says the guy who's picture is literally lady repellent
@@milk_bath I like clean goatee's on men
You can tell from the trailer it's been made by the mentally ill like this guy.
