There are lots of different traits to identify people on the autism spectrum, and usually these traits are more common in later years from around 3 years and up.
However there are some indicators that you can see in babies to know if they are autistic or not.
These are just indicators and not formal diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder.
Here are 3 indicators or signs that your baby may have autism.
1.Sensory Issues
Children with autism may have sensory processing issues, which would include not taking to bottles or breast teats because of the sensation / feelings. This would refer to syringe or spoon fed milk.
2.Lack Of Eye Contact
While babies are still developing their sight, they do however love to make eye contact with their mummy and daddy, but autistic children will have difficulties in this area and maybe not make eye contact.
3.Un Responsive To Noise
As autism causes hyper focus and sometimes zoning out (in their own world) autistic babies may not respond to audio communication between their parents because they are focused on other things.
Remember these are just suggested indications and not a positive test.
I would recommend talking to health care consultants and doctors if you suspect any issues with your childâs development.

When I was a baby, my mom said I kept my head down when I crawled. I would crawl until I ran into a wall, turn and crawl until I hit the next wall, repeat!! That was back in the 70s, though, so they didnât know much about autism then. I was just a âstrangeâ kid.
Wow thats super interesting!
Hey, Freddie with the tiny houses from Instagram here. The main thing I first noticed on my child was that he zoned out as a baby, we have a black and white photo of Hong Kong...he wasnât many months old when he started this and he would stare at it for hours, very different from other babies I have known... thatâs my two cents worth đ
Trust me I have autism and yes I have a son with autism so I pretty much picked it up already when he was born
Ahh yeah it's easy to identify when you can see it in yourself.
I can see why adhd is seen as the kissing cousin of asd because these three traits can also be found with adhd. I've experienced all three of these myself
When my son Syden, was around 1 to 3 He loves lining up anything and has lack of eye contact, now He loves looking straight into my eyes and say I love you†He can't take any loud noises especially coming from the cars or party noise, we tried if he like to use an ear defender but he doesn't like it. He won't look at me when i'm calling him 4 to 10 times. Have his ears check and Doctor said everything's fine. Now, He reacts immediately when we call him and He uses ear defender to protect himself from smoothie blender noiseđđđđ
Dan, this is so lovingly and well done. Thank you for taking the time to speak to us!
My daughter is 4.5 months old, and both my partner and I have ASD. We were told that she has a 50% chance of inheriting the condition from each of us so the odds are high. I dont see any real major red flags yet other than not responding to her name but its early for that. She does appear to enjoy sensory input so we are just waiting to see what happens next. Regardless she is perfect in my eyes and I love her w all my heart and soul!
I am myself all the time obsessed with something, but as soon as I get bored with the obsession I get obsessed with something else. And repeat...
Is this a sign of autism?
Thatâs how my special interests work too. I test very likely for ASD plus I fit the all of the DSM-5 criteria for a formal diagnosis. Iâve been attempting to book my assessment for about 1 month now, although where i live, it can take years. I believe itâs how my ADD/ADHD interacts with what I believe is ASD. Have you ever been formally diagnosed with anything before? Just wondering because it would be interesting if we had any other similarities.
That's how I am but sometimes months or years later I sometimes go back to an old obsession. I am diagnosed with Austim.
I sometimes do that as well
Also can't wait for your video on getting help for social anxiety, I need that badly.
I have agoraphobia and social anxiety the one thing that has really helped me get out of my home and back into society at my own pace is my peer support counselor. We set weekly goals. I know it sounds kind of silly but my first goal through my peer support was walking to my mailbox and getting the mail once a week and worked my way up to grocery shopping. Now I am able to get my hair done at the salon without panic attacks and I do not have to mask with my stylest her nephew is on the Spectrum too. I has taken me some time to get where I am now, I do not plan on stopping I want to go on a vacation next year for my birthday.
Skip tp 2:40 when Dan finally gets to the point.
Iâve been diagnosed with Autism at 40 years old. My daughter has some signs. 1. She doesnât sleep well unless Iâm there
2. She lines up toys at times
3. She doesnât always listen to me because she is into something else
4. She sometimes toe walks.
I didn't talk at the usual age, wasn't interested in playing with other kids, loved Lego, had unusual reactions to motion, such as lifts in department stores, and have difficulty with eye contact.I also tend not to show emotions - happy, sad, angry, upset, interested, bored, I'm pretty much blank and expressionless. Nobody can tell how I'm feeling, I'm a bit of an Enigma. I'm also a bit strange, I don't tend to respond to highly stressful situations such as being hit by a car in the so called appropriate way. Sure I get a bit shaky from shock, but I'm otherwise quite calm.
Iâm autistic. I never cried or smiled. Never showed any signs that I needed things so my parents didnât know when to feed me and whatnot. The only emotion I really expressed was anger/irritability. And Iâd stare at lights lol
I got 4 months baby & my 10 yr boy got diagnosed since baby was born, then I saw I fit traits too!!!! So I'm checking baby every day looking for signs.............. Up to now he nurses no problem & reacts to sensory things.........
Huge sponser! I'd like to see a video on that topic. I have a permit in Australia for treatment of PTSD/Anxiety, but I feel the benefits across in to my ADHD/ASD.
Thanks for this video! Can you make a video sometime about what you know regarding empathy and children on the autism spectrum? Do they have a tendancy to feel and show less empathy toward others that are suffering or sad?
My baby is 9 months old, Iâve notice it has always been a struggle to get her attention although I do sometimes. She loves looking at lights and ceiling fan. When she is watching a cartoon on the tv I can call her name loudly and itâs like she doesnât even hear me. Sheâs a happy baby and laughs and smiles alot. She doesnât clap but does some type of hand stimming. Iâm just so confused if she has autism because itâs so early but I know something isnât right.
Can too much eye contact in children be possible with autistic children? As in intense staring?
Yes it can!!! So can squinting at everyone yet not having vision issues.
My first born has started the process of getting his diagnosis. When he was a baby he only showed one of these signs which was not responding to me when calling for him. He doesn't seem to have much of a problem with eye contact. In regards to sensory processing I'm not sure with him because the amount of sippy cups I have gone through is crazy. He also doesn't like to bite into certain things n likes his food cut up, he is getting slowly better with it but eating a cheese burger doesn't happen n he is over 3 years old.
Can you do some more content about OCD. Looks like I am now suffering with that at least when it comes to my body.
I'm now 50.
I can't think of any conversations I had with my (single)mother as a child through my adult years.
How can a mother not notice her own child is so different?
Heck I can't think of too many conversations in my life with eye contract.
This is bad for Aspie's because people treat us differently. I've concluded that people who want to be friends or romantic with someone who makes no eye contact is predatory.
My little one chewed up bottles sippy cups and pacifiers but she loves strawls. She will not keep eye contact if she catches your eye. Her name does not exist I must physically get my daughter's attention and have her look at me when I am speaking to her about anything but the vacuum cleaner, blow dryer, dishwasher leaf blower and sudden sounds make her run for her dear life. She is non verbal but understands what we are asking of her. We know my daughter is low functioning autistic, we have great hope for her future and love her no matter what.
Can you develop new sensory issues? Can you overcome some sensory issues?
Yeah for sure, you know you grow and change so things can differ as you get older
I score really high on the autism quotient test (not formally diagnosed) and my oldest is diagnosed autistic. When they were a baby, they were âtypicalâ/advanced until they were about 9 months old, when they started non-stop droning and wheel spinning until they were 4, then they started speaking full sentences, but with zero eye contact and still needed something to spin when they were talking or listening (among other neurodivergent tells)
13 years later, I have an 8 month old who stares at lights, prefers looking at âshadow mommyâ (looking over my shoulder) than looking at me directly, refuses to babble more than âaaaaahhhhhhâ and âdadadadadadadadaâ, hyperfixates on their toys to the point where they donât respond to their name for several minutes at a time, and already has meltdowns when the day doesnât go according to schedule⊠oh! And punches themself in the leg⊠whether theyâre happy, bored, excited, or upset
In the process of diagnosis. His pediatrician was convinced and the profile fits. đ
Oh! Interesting
@@TheAspieWorld actually, the pediatrician's urging was because "of course he is! He has all the early signs and YOU'RE autistic!" Uh. I hadn't been diagnosed yet. I went and got an eval and, sure enough, I am. Lol
@@HeatherGrace that's actually amazing they have that much knowledge to say so quickly!
@Philip Nguyen what does that even mean
@Philip Nguyen Is this supposed to be sarcasm?
My mom said I didn't like cuddling as much as most babies.
U really.have to be top of ur game.to have family if ur.an aspie.
