Fun fact - Morgan Freeman's son Alfonso is technically in this movie twice: when Andy first shows up and the prisoners are doing the "fresh fish" stuff, there's one young Black man they linger on, and that's Morgan's son. And then when they show Red's mugshot and it's a much younger version, that's also Morgan's son.
I knew there was a resemblance between him and the mugshot picture! Wow I was close lol
I was the con to the left of Alfonso yelling into camera. đź
Legend thanks for the trivia!
Thats a hell of a claim to fame â@PeteGeorge đ
$370,000 in 1966 would be equal to about $3.5 million today.
I couldn't click fast enough! This is one of the best movies ever made. Hard to believe it was based on a novella by Stephen King. And the book is amazing, too.
What's your opinion on "Needful Things"? I would love a remake with the story more like the book.
Red relying to Andy's question about why they call him Red with "Maybe it's 'cause I'm Irish" is actually an inside joke because his character, as originally written, was a red-headed Irish man.
Clancy Brown plays Byron Hadley and he also is the voice of Mr Krabs in SpongeBob. He has said in multiple interviews that he loved playing this character but he absolutely hates him. He says his favorite part of the movie is when he is getting arrestedđđŒ
I've not heard of you before, and this is the first reaction of yours I've ever watched.
Me at the beginning of the reaction: "I don't think I'm going to like this guy."
Me at the end of the reaction: "I like this guy."
When Red tells Andy that Mexico is "a shitty pipe dream"... foreshadowing!
Excellent observation!! I never thought about that.
All you'd have to do is read the comment section on any reaction to this movie. It's generally posted 25-50 times over.
That little monologue by the warden when Dufesne is in solitary - *chefâs kiss* - so evil.
That $35,000 at Hadleyâs brother gave him will be equivalent to about $450,000 today. His brother gave him a lot of money.
By the way, just because the brother had a million dollars, that doesnât mean he was obligated to give Hadley anything.
$1 million and 1949 is equivalent to $13 million today
One of the best movies ever made.
It's definitely up there, I'd go top 50 all time yeah.
The most amazing thing about this film is it wasn't really a box office success, but when it went to VHS Video rental the word got around and it became an utter cult classic watched by millions, it is one of the the greatest films of all time. Great reaction man we could see you were genuinely moved by it. Incredible to think also that it was only a Steven King short story called Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption and became this epic film.
BTW what happened to your Buffy reactions!
Also it started showing on cable a lot, like TNT. Maybe even more people saw it on that than VHS.
I'm happy to say that I saw Shawshank in a theater.
That white powder at the beginning was a delousing agent meant to kill any lice that might be on the prisoner because lice was a big issue in prisons.
It's kind of amazing how every single reactor to this movie says, "what's that?" literally immediately after Hadley says, "Delouse him."
It's something I look for now in each reaction.
In modern society no one knows what a louse is.
Thus the phrase "delouse them" and related means confusion.
@@seaneendelong8065 I know what it is.
The number 1 movie on imdb and one of my favorite films. I read recently that the original cut didn't have the reunion scene at the end. Frank Darabont, the director, wanted to leave the ending open, continuing the theme of hope. The studio insisted on adding the last scene. They persuaded Darabont to shoot the scene, by telling him that, if he didn't like it, he could cut it out, but he ended up liking it.
This movie is such a journey..when you said you didnât even know what it was about I thought oh my this is going to be a great reaction.đ The screenplay is from a book of short stories by Stephen King which I read as a kid and loved. I was SO worried Hollywood wasnât going to it justice but itâs perfect. *whew*. Fun fact: The og title was Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption . The same book also produced the movie Stand By Me (The Body) which is a fun coming of age story I know youâd love. Check the cast.
I love that the warden went to great length to ensure Andy couldnât see the safe combination and Andy didnât need to break in to it to outsmart him & screw him over. đ
From Wiki about the opera song âSullâariaâŠche soave zeffirettoâ: âIn the duettino, Countess Almaviva dictates to Susanna the invitation to a tryst addressed to the countessâ husband in a plot to expose his infidelity.â
I love Redâs line about being Irish! Itâs a nod to the original character from Stephen kingâs novella 12:21
Its genuinely a joy to see one of my favourite reactors experience the best film ever made.
HOPE IS A GOOD THING, MAYBE THE BEST OF THINGS, AND NO GOOD THING EVER DIES.
I can't watch this without getting somewhat emotional such an amazing movie
One of the best movies ever made. I love that we just basically got to watch it with you. You didnât speak over much of the dialogue so you could appreciate this incredible script. A lot of reactors talk so much that they miss a lot of the keys parts of the story. Iâm so glad you liked it Travis.
~Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. đ«¶đ»
The 'redemption' of the story is about Red. Andy saved Red's life. Otherwise he would have ended up like Brooks.
1:00:16 $370k USD would be over $3m in 2024. đ”
This is one of my favorite movies, one of the ones that I would stop and watch back in my channel surfing days. Now I watch almost every reaction that is released. đ
Definitely one of the best films of all time. Morgan narrating is the cherry on top
The ending is SOOOOO amazing.. but.i think it's the first time you truly see the color blue & the sky
Favorite movie of all time! So glad to watch it with you
Delousing powder helps stop the spread of bugs (lice, scabies, etc.) 6:21
Red (Morgan Freeman) says âAndy came to Shawshank in early 1947 for murdering his wifeâŠ)
Rita Hayworth was one of the biggest Hollywood stars of the 1940âs and considered one of the most beautiful women of the time; many of the planes used during WW2 painted her picture on the side. Later in life she and filmmaker Orson Welles were married for about 4 years.
This is probably my 2nd favorite movie of all time....probably seen it dozens of times lol
Prisoners being "institutionalized" is a real thing... I actually feel bad for them
I'm so excited for this review!!!! One of my top 3 movies, EVER.
One of my absolute favorite movies! Anytime they show it on tv I have to watch
To think Steven King came up with this blows my mind. His best work. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. TY for a great reaction.
One of the best movies ever made. Thank you for the reaction, Travis. You look great and Happy Summer to you!
If anyone's interested, the 'two Italian ladies' were singing about hatching a plan to expose a two-timing man. It's from Mozart's 'The Marriage of Figaro'.
Not nearly as romantic as one would think.
"hatching a plan" is the operative term.A little while later when they open the library they mention a book about a prison break.
My absolutely favorite movie. The cinematography is epic, that shot on the roof, moves me every time. Thank you Travis â€
My favorite movie of all time
I seriously love your reaction to this movie! This is my all time favorite movie and I love watching reactions to it, but I think yours is my favorite so far.
Thank you !
You might remember that beer they were drinking on the roof, since you're from Michigan. They were drinking Stroh's. The 2 Italian ladies singing is from opera "The Marriage of Figaro". The Countess & her maid are singing a sweet aria about note they will write to trick the Count. This is one of the best movies made from a Stephen King book, ever! Your edit of this movie is the best of any reactor that I have seen. You are awesome. Have you seen THE GREEN MILE? đđ
đ„°
Itâs hard for me to watch reactions of this film around my dog, mostly because I listen to the soundtrack while I bring her on walks, so itâs a trigger for her đ. Such a great film
I always appreciate a good actor who can make me hate him so much, as in the Warden. Cheers to Brooks đč
Hello Travis! This was such a good movie, one of the modern classics for sure. I have not yet had a chance to watch your reaction but I will get to it soon! I only saw the first bit when you said you did not know what the movie was all about - wow - so this will be something for you to watch.
Hands Down Best Movie Of All Time..
One of my all time favorite movies. đ
The joke about Red being Irish is because in the book Red is Irish.
This is one of my favorite movies!!!!!!
Travis please react to The Green Mile
I think you will find this interesting. This film is a literal adaptation of the novella by Stephen King (yes, that same one).
The entire literary novel was transferred to the screen
Present day value of $370,000.00 from 1966 would be $3,569.057.23.
I've seen this movie no less than 50 times. It is one of my top 5 of all time. I love watching first time reactions because it's like reliving the experience. The acting is superb, and the story is legendary.
The best Stephen King movie in my opinion, although Rose Red is a close second for me!
Nice reaction Travis. You had some choice expletives for the warden!
Iâve seen over 20 of these reactions. This is the best edit-by far. You included everything I think about when envisioning this movie. BRAVO!! âŠâŠ.and SUBSCRIBE.
"sucks to suck" so true
Great reaction thank you
First of all, this is a great movie.
But every time I look at him
I always try to explain a scene to myself.
How is it possible that after his escape, the poster of the
Lady hung so perfectly on the wall again?
Even if he were to crawl back again,
How can he hang the poster like that again from the inside?
this is my one of my favourite films,
Obviously now you have watched Shawshank you have to watch the Green Mile now!
This is my favorite movie of all time. I've probably seen it over 100 times and still love it.
Iâm sure I wonât be first to say but if you havenât watched it already, you have to watch The Green Mile. From the same writing/producing team and just as powerful.
"The Shawshank Redemption": A tale about Hope, Friendship and The Count of Monte Cristo. 53:16 A little-known song for Andy Dufresne: czcams.com/video/5-fcvnYDEJ0/video.html 1:04:42 A song for Ellis Boyd "Red" Redding: czcams.com/video/j5sO0HbB5WY/video.html
Adore this movie, and your reaction was amazing.
I was shown this movie when I was a junior in high school for my film analysis class in 2008. Since then, this had been in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. Every time it's on TV, I stop to watch it. No matter how many times I see this movie, it never gets old.
Side note: I see you got a OTH Nathan jersey in the background. Is it autographed and that's why it's in a shadow box? I have one that is signed by Chad Michael Murray for Lucas's jersey, and I was trying to figure out how to display mine. :)
WHAT!?!? You missed this? We need to talk.
EDITED: Thank you. This will be the closest way for me to experience this movie for the first time again. Thank you.
Yes, it's a real prison, but not still in use and not in Maine. It was filmed in a prison in Ohio. I know someone who was incarcerated there more than 70 years ago.
Why do reacters NOT pay attention to details? Pretty clear when Andy entered prison if you listen. Andy told Redd he was a rock hound when they were talking about the rock hammer.
This movie and Hacksaw Ridge are my two top faves!
This is by far my favourite movie. I also love the green mile.
Oh, and here's the obligatory, "Tommy was originally supposed to be played by Brad Pitt but he opted to make Legends of the Fall instead" comment.
Andy stole about 3.5 million dollars dollars from the warden if it was today.
The money Andy had would be worth about $3 million today.
Tim Robbins is 6'5. Amazing camera work because you don't really notice him towering over anyone. After polishing the shoes you see him duck under the doorway heading back to his cell. The guard behind him looks tiny.
Top 3 movie of all time.
GO BLUE! ONE PRIDE!
360 k in 2024 dollars is just slightly under 3.5 million.
That money would be worth a little over 3.5 million today. Nice!
And that 3.5 million would go a lot farther in Mexico than the USA
Loved your reaction as always. You should check out society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, the acting was amazing
8:12 so true
It was a real prison now it's the museum mostly it's based out of Maine but it's actually in Ohio
$3,586,590 in todayâs dollars
The delousing powder is to kill lice
Jake dies just after being released, having never learned to care for himself.
Another instance of institutionalization and the harmful effects it has.
in 1966. it is about 866% inflation in today's money.
300k. about 2.9 million in today's money.
No not based on a true story I think they were going to call the movie Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption but that would be too much to put on the Marquee in the movie did not do well in the box office the best way to sell a movie is to a word of mouth and it didn't do that well because the name of it and people keep on messing up on the name
The. Greatest. Film. Ever. Made. Period.
â€đ€â„ïž
Why do you block the movie with your logos?

Not a true story. Stephen King wrote it in fact.
Watch the Korean movie- Keys To The Heart
Sucks to suck! I spewed when you said that.
I am so mad at myself! How did I not notice you have a One Tree Hill jersey in the background? And Nathan's jersey, not Lucas. That says something...
Whatâs it say ? đđ€
@@TravisViews That you're a sucker for redeemed bad boys! đ€Łđ Am I wrong?
Busted.
You really should dedicate some time every month for all things Stephen King!
